Why Shohei Ohtani?

So this year I just got into baseball sports, though I have already tried it, but God didn't bless me to be a pitcher or hitter. I think it started last May when I just followed Shohei on Instagram like nothing else. Then here comes August, where it all starts with admiring him more. To tell you honestly, I never found any athletes because they are kind of out of my league. I have never been into sports, though I kind of appreciate some athletes like LeBron, Kobe, and some iconic athletes. I was never a big fan of them. Then Shohei came out of nowhere (LOL) and kind of appreciated his face, body, and height. So I kinda eyeing on him. The. I started to watch clips of his games. Damn girl, the way he hits those baseball balls is so amazing, as is the way he pitches and throws. I cannot say more. He is a very talented person, and he is so good at baseball. So there I started to be fan, and heres my thing call me weirdo or what but whenever I am a fan of a certain artist I kinda leave them message in Instagram and Message them to encourage or appreciate them. I know they don't have time to read fan mail or messages, but what if God gave me a chance that they might open and read my message? Like, who knows, maybe one day—not today, but one day—they might be able to read my message for them. So I've been leaving him messages and congratulating him whenever he wins and all. Never in my life have I had standards for a man, but when Shohei came, booooom! He is now my standard for men. I don't know why, but I always like men who are out of my league, like impossible to reach or meet. I always prayed that one day I would meet Shohei live, watch every game he had, and clap and give standing ovations even if others were not. I will remain his fan, even if others hate him or do not like him. I always promise myself that my dream of meeting Shohei won't just be a dream; it will become real in life. I don't know Shohei personally that much, but seriously, I think he's a great guy, not only as a player but also as a person. You see, I am really a fan of him because of every detail he had, like his soft hair (though I don't know if it's soft just by looking at the videos; they're kind of soft), down to his face and cute nose and cute little smile, down to his broad shoulder (ooh, the shoulders are always my thing, hihih), to the big biceps and veins in his hands, down to his strong legs and all. His art is a beautiful art—perfectly flawed but very beautiful art. Then I watched his games and subscribed to MLB (I'm just going to watch the internet because LA and PH are so far away).

Aside from his physical appearance and being a great player, one thing I really admire about him is how motivated he is in baseball, how organized he is in his life, and how he plans everything to reach his goal. (Watch his documentary at Disney; you will understand him more.) Wow, this person knows himself so well, and here I am, your little Miss. Nobody is lost in the woods! As a person who is demotivated in life lately, as a person who has been lost in life, as a person who doesn't know what to do, as a person who has been tired of life and who has been wishing to become a leaf (yes, that's me, as a person is me), I am really amazed by Shohei. I wish I had the qualities like him, I wish I had the guts like him, I wish I was strong enough to face challenges instead of running away, and I wish I was confident like him. I really wish I was like Shohei; maybe today I'm not a sad person. Maybe today I am not suffering a lot; maybe today I was on the greater version. But yeah, all are I wish, and I was. I cannot even act on it (lol, silly me). Seeing Shohei kind of gives me motivation to try harder in life; he's kind of my role model right now. That's why I'm a fan of him. If only this letter could reach him (haha, I will be honored), these are the reasons why I admire him a lot. His physical appearance and being a good player are additional points to him. What I admire most about him is how he is handling his life.

If I am given a chance or this thing could reach you, this is what I can say.

Dear Mr. Shohei

I know you don't read fan messages, but just in case this thing reaches you, I would just like you to know that I admire you so much, not just as a player but also as a person. I think some of it is his fans trying to put him in conversations most people m don’t think he belongs in. Like he is a very good player, a star, but not a superstar. Celtic fans want to put him in the Luka, Jokic, now Wemby category of the new gen of best players in the nba and future faces of the league once Lebron and Curry retire, but a) he isn’t as good as those guys and b) he is on a superteam unlike them. Yes he has had success in the playoffs, more than someone like Luka with one finals and one ring, but you could argue he wasn’t even the best player on the team but Jaylen Brown. The way the Celtics are constructed he is closer to being a role player than a superstar (and that speaks on what a good job their management has done on putting together a group). He also has spoken a lot of Kobe which made some people angry cause he doesn’t really have the charisma to pull off the “mamba mentality” bit, and yeah the cringy unoriginal celebration didn’t help 🥴

I think it’s also worth mentioning that the nba is one of the few places where being white plays against them, cause it’s such a historically black dominated sport they look down some on white boys getting to that level. You have to be generational like Bird or Luka for it to not play a factor in how some fans doubt you cause of being white. It was even a topic for Steph when he first started really coming into people’s radar and he isn’t even white but lightskin…

Yeah, I did notice his fans being very annoying and triggering all the wrong people. I noticed that during the Olympics too when he wasn't getting the minutes they thought he deserved when he himself seemed unbothered and was just happy to be there. A fanbase really can work against their own favs at times it's insane. I do see why people would be annoyed with the Kobe thing too, he really does need to learn to just be authentic I think people would like him much more. The celebrations thing was soooo hard to watch tho especially the we did it part 😭😭 he seems like a great guy, he really does not need to do all that and people still need to lay off him 😭😭

Speaking of Luka tho, I think he's incredible but what's his fans' issue with Steph? 😭😭 Like I see so many of them hate on him unprovoked and I'm just confused.

The fact that Steph got so much hate for being light skin is still crazy to me and he's not even mixed 😭😭 that Perkins guy saying he hates him because he has green eyes or whatever is so??? Like what the hell??? You're a whole "professional" pundit. I feel like Steph got so much stick from his peers throughout his career simply because he reached heights a lot of them can only dream of despite being "undersized" and not playing the game the way they're used to. Like you can see how so many of them genuinely hold a grudge against him because of it.

Let Lebron Live

We all have our adversary or villain that is the bane of our existence. Its what makes rivalries fun and exciting. When Lebron James was drafted to the NBA right out of high school, I naturally jumped on the hater bandwagon and began jeering and booing the man. I felt more of a reason to do so, since my NY Knicks didn't fair very well in the NBA draft lottery (which I hate with a passion), so it really didn't matter to me.

Over the years, my perception has changed throughout this man's storied career. While I haven't been enamored with his persona, I have become very impressive with his skillset. Lebron James really is a fantastic all-around player. I've watched him go from naive, promising star to a franchise savior to franchise traitor to progical son to Mr. Hollywood in LA LA Land.

However, many basketball fans either seem unimpressed or dissatisfied with the career of the man they call King James. Some of the criticism has been warranted, from leaving his home town of Cleveland high and dry to join the mediocre title crusade of the Miami Heat to his style of play (i.e. faking foul calls, muscle cramps, not being clutch enough, etc). Some have even criticized his politics, to the point where a conservative talk show host went as far as telling him and other ball players to shut up and dribble, yet wanted to play victim when Lebron clapped back. Although I do not consider myself any type of conservative or liberal or a member of the democratic or republican party (I'm a moderate libertarian in case you were wondering), I actually took Lebron's side on this one.

Like any of the Lebron haters, I couldn't stand the sight of him and wanted to see his downfall on the basketball court, but all of that changed the day Kobe Bryant died. While I was no Kobe fan when he was alive, I came to the realization that you have to appreciate one in a lifetime talents. They may not be who you think they should be, but haters can never take away what guys like Kobe and Lebron have done and that is the courage to try.

Lebron won the NBA championship, as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers this time. My perception of him changed at this point. He became a 4 time NBA champion. Four championships. Doesn't matter how he got them or what route he took to get there, the fact is, he has them. As for the philosophical issues with regards to comparing Lebron's run to that of Michael Jordan or Bill Russell, debate it all you want, but understand that each generation is different. Each mindset to how a championship is won changes. Some can stick it out with the city/franchise that they signed with or got drafted to. Others need a change of scenery and the right supporting cast and coaching to get it done. Lebron's journey is his own. Same for Kobe, Jordan, Bill Russell, Julius Irving or whoever else you put into the G.OA.T conversation. We can take away the allure of superstardom from Lebron James, but that doesn't take those 4 championship rings off his fingers, even if you want to stamp an asterisk next to it.

Now, hearing all the hate and excuses as to why Lebron shouldn't be acknowledged for his talents and accomplishments has become absurd and just lame. For example, I see nonsense like this presented as one of many "valid" reasons to keep hating on Lebron James:

The above argument presented is pointless and mildly obscure. While it is true that some of the basketball greats have participated in the NBA Slam Dunk contest, I do not recall Magic Johnson or Larry Bird participating in the Dunk contest. Yet, these two are in the G.O.A.T conversation all the time.

Now, there are people throwing shade at him for wanting to play with his son, Bronny, when he becomes eligible for the draft. At first, this seemed cringe worthy to me. Then, I remembered that Ken Griffey and his son did the same thing in Major League Baseball. So, I shrugged it off and I hope it works out for them.

Again, the haters came lurching in, this time spewing hate towards his son, which I don't agree with and find that type of trolling cowardice and dishonorable.

The fact of the matter is, Lebron has the hall of fame locked up. He's a 4 time NBA Champion, he's one of the most charitable athletes on this planet who has won multiple MVP's as well as broken records. He's a phenomenal talent. Not to mention, he has made up for his mistakes by coming back to the hometown he abandoned and delivered them an NBA title.

Seriously, what more do you want from this man? The hate has gotten to the point now where its mean-spirited and hurtful, whereas, it use to be all in good fun.

Lebron is what he is. Like it or not, he is a future hall of famer, a top 25 player of all time and he will be in the G.O.A.T conversation for years to come. Accept it and get over it. While I can live with the fact that he more than likely will never play for my New York Knicks or he might annoy us with playing his final year side-by-side with his son, I cannot live with unwarranted criticisms and hate for the sake of people wanting to be a hater. Now, it just comes off as jealousy and unnecessary scapegoating, with overreaching, unrealistic expectations.

Let Lebron live.

PHOENIX | Ayton works out for Suns, says 'I know I'm going No. 1'

PHOENIX (AP) — Deandre Ayton spent Wednesday with the Phoenix Suns with the feeling that this was the start of a beautiful relationship.

The 7-foot-1, 250-pound center went through what he said would be his only pre-draft workout and expressed supreme confidence that the Suns will use the No. 1 overall pick to select him.

“I know I’m going No. 1,” he told reporters.

Not that the Suns have assured him of that, he’s just that confident that the team won’t pass on his combination of size, strength, athleticism and shooting touch.

“Nobody told me,” he said. “That’s just me. I think I deserve that. I’ve worked hard.”

It would be a comfortable fit for Ayton, who was born in the Bahamas and moved to the Phoenix area during high school. He said most of his family now lives here. Ayton played his one year of college basketball a couple of hours down Interstate 10 at the University of Arizona.

“Everybody knows us now,” he said. “This is our second home so we just feel welcome, and it would be a blessing if I become the No. 1 pick and stay here and make this home.”

Ayton said teaming with young Suns star Devin Booker would be “Shaq and Kobe 2-point-0.”

“We could really make something happen in Phoenix,” he said. “We could really have a spark and start a winning legacy.”

There hasn’t been much winning in Phoenix lately. The Suns have missed the playoffs eight years in a row and had the NBA’s worst record last season at 21-61, second-worst in franchise history.

But there is a young core of talent and most of those players, including Booker and Josh Jackson, watched what Ayton described as “a pretty intense” individual workout.

For nearly an hour, Suns coach Igor Kokoskov and his staff put Ayton through a series of game situations, as much as possible given the fact no other players were on the floor.

“It was everything that we expected form Deandre,” general manager Ryan McDonough said. “Obviously we’ve watched him closely at Arizona and we’ve scouted him heavily in person in games, at practice and on film. He showed us what we expected to see.”

McDonough said “it’s pretty rare” to find such a player.

“I think this is my 16th draft in the NBA,” McDonough said, “and you can probably count on one hand the number of guys with his size, athleticism, footwork, balance, touch. It’s a unique package.”

He was particularly impressed with Ayton’s outside shooting touch. “We knew he was big and strong and athletic and moved well at that size, had good length, had great hands,” McDonough said, “but to see him make shot after shot in a workout in different scenarios.”

And he’s just 19 years old.

The Suns plan other workouts with candidates for the No. 1 pick later this week. The group won’t include Luka Doncic, who is still playing in Europe.

Phoenix is not tipping its hand, but Ayton will be hard to pass up. “The strength of our team right now are young perimeter players, led by Devin Booker, Josh Jackson and T.J. Warren,” McDonough said. “We’ve been looking for a center to kind of anchor our team offensively and defensively. We think Deandre has that kind of potential. … He’s certainly a unique player and a unique talent that I think would fit in great with the rest of our roster.”

Ayton averaged 20.1 points and 11.6 rebounds in his one season at Arizona. He brushed aside questions about his defense.

“I don’t think that’s a weakness,” he said. “I haven’t had the opportunity to really guard any bigs in college. I was always on the perimeter with the guards.”

Still, he pointed out, he averaged 2.3 blocked shots per game. On offense, Ayton said, “I can score inside and out.”

“There will be a lot of mismatches because if I guard them they have to guard me at the end of the day,” he said. “I can score, I can pick and pop, I can pick and roll, I can put the ball on the ground, rebound, push the ball. It’s an open floor now. Nobody is really double-teaming or triple-teaming.”

He said there is no current player on which he patterns his game. But he mentioned two pretty good ones from the past.

“Kevin Garnett, his intensity on both ends of the floor, how he changes the game, rebounding. From offense to defense, him starting the pick and roll, stuff like that,” Ayton said, “how he’s so vocal with his teammates. And Hakeem Olajuwon, with his footwork down low, I try to really pick up a lot of stuff with those guys.”

Ayton called himself the most competitive player in the draft. He said there’s none of the laid-back attitude that’s a trademark of his homeland.

“I left at age 12, so I got a little Americanized with the competitive level,” he said.

Ayton planned to get together with Booker and other Suns players to watch Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.
