Good lord the drop in quality right from the end of s11 to spyfall is baffling
#this is the most jarring change of tone and quality ive ever seen#like straight from a pretty good christmas ep to what is easily the worst pair of episodes ive seen since i started rewatching new who#between the drastic shift from the grounded tone of s11 to some weird and not very good mix of that and the lighter tone from like#the smith era#like i was already not super excited about seeing the master come back on account of missy's fantastic end in s10 but good god#i was not prepared for just how bad the new incarnation was gonna be#like a 1:1 impersonation of simms#and like its not a bad one#but its so jarring that hes jsut thrown into the show with no regard for the tonal contrast with 13#like the pace of the episode ramps up massively but it just feels nonsensical#and again i just cant get over this tonal shift#from a season that seemed to pride itself on having totally original stories with the only one pulling from lore doing something totally new#to digging up the master after exactly one season without them#like if there'd been a bit more time between this revival and the end of s10 i mightve bought it a bit more#but no its not even a full length season#11 episodes#the writing has also gone from laughably bad to just really bad#which isnt even a shame#its just annoying#because i did actually enjoy s11 a good bit#but this is just not off to a good start at all#will still keep up with it though#hopefully this is just as bad as it gets
