jar jar binks in the phantom menace represented a crucial aspect of star wars at the time—that this movie is still for children. and adult fans’ vicious backlash to his character robbed us of his planned betrayal/villainous arc which would have been equally integral to the theme of lost innocence that all three prequels movies were working towards. in this essay i will—

#it’s interesting retrospectively looking at jar jar as an adult fan #do not get me wrong tpm has a lot of issues partly because it was trying to do too much at once. but it is at its heart a kids movie #and kids still enjoy it. and that was the point at the time and tbh considering its role in the PT it suits it. of course young anakin’s #intro movie would be so childish. that’s the point !! that’s what makes ROTS sting !!#and with jar jar in particular. as a kid. yeah i loved him to death. i thought he was so funny. i did impersonations of him.#like i’m very aware of the PTs flaws and jar jar’s flaws believe me. but i can’t help but feel sad that we never got to see the full plan #like talk abt subversive !! the silly goofy annoying character having an evil lil arc !! that would have fit the prequels narrative so well #ahmed best fuck everybody else i respect YOU #anyways.txt
