#literally women entered the workforce em masse and suddenly men had a whole bunch of extra rules about business casual

As someone who tries to dress sort of classy-androgynous all the modern arbitrary rules within menswear are soooo silly to me. I mean I know that can apply to all fashion generally but sometimes it feels like anything above casual in menswear is stuck in a weird 1960s time prison. Every menswear online “expert” sounds like my grandma who used to insist on picking a matching purse to go with her outfit just to go to a doctor’s appointment.
“Your tie should be long enough to just touch the middle of your belt line, if it’s too short it’ll make you look like a silly little clown. Like a little bitch boy. You don’t want people to think you have a small tie, do you? And don’t wear your tie too long, either, then it just looks like you’re short; and, well— god forbid.”
Meanwhile men in the 1920s were wearing ties that barely reached their solar plexus and nobody gave a fuck whatsoever
