Early mornings are definitely the best. The sound of the skis sliding on a cold snow, the cold breath, the silence around us. Sometimes these long days, one foot after the other. So many thoughts, so many ideas had been thru my minds during. It’s so goos when the journey is transformative 🙏🏻 📷 @bentibbettsphotography while skinning to the Finsteraarhorn together with @marcob. Usually we run after time and we never have enough. And now we got plenty of it, it’s almost like if we don’t know what to do with it neither where to start. What have you wished to do if you had more time? Summit of Dent d’Hérens with a really special view on Matterhorn 🤩 The wind was really strong in altitude and it was hard to keep the balance on the final ridge. We even had to secure ourselves on the summit cross 💨 I remember I was not too keen to go for this mountain because of this cold wind forcasted as I started to feel tired and weaker. By my good friend @giuliamonego was psyched and got me psyched as well. Thanks Giulia for your motivation and great energy everytime you joined me to climb some 4000m peaks together! That was always awesome! Already 10 days of lockdown and social distancing. 10 days of going back to the simple things. If there was not all the death and economic earthquake, this slowpace and return to the basics is actually not bad. Lets all stay strong [1/3] A little breath with this photo from the summit ridge of the Gross Grünhorn, Bernese Alps, with @mbernasocchi in 2017 for the #LivAlongTheWay project 📷 @bentibbettsphotography with @tintin_des_bossons #Adaptation #StayStrong #StayHealthy #Covid19 #AllTogether (à Stay strong) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-PyCKupkla/?igshid=bpc7b354vecn

Many of us, active people, are way more in the « doing » than in the « being ». This lockdown is a great opportunity to experiment the « being » and go to places of ourselves where we will never had been otherwise. Hopefully soon again we will be able to move free in the mountains... « Traveling » from one point to another, going from one summit to the next one, crossing glaciers and getting to know better our dear Alps was nothing very technical but the savor of it was pretty sweet. I miss this taste... It’s also a great opportunity for our creativity, for letting come our ideas, desires and dreams and for thinking of new projects. Although the whole situation has a tendencty to « freeze » many aspects of our lives, to create anxiety and stress, don’t stop moving, at least inside. [1/3] Already a week we are under quarantine in France and in many other countries. Our rythme of life has changed a lot. Our priorities as well. What we took for granted is suddenly not anymore. For now the situation is serious with thousands of people fighting to stay alive and thousands of health workers doing an amazing work. We can only really thank them and support them as much as we can. #Adaptation #StayStrong #Covid19 Photo of @bentibbettsphotography while climbing Zinalrothorn with @marion.poitevin during the #LivAlongTheWay project back in 2017 (à Stay Healthy) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-FjNWwptnJ/?igshid=k11olrh3azkb

The plan was to wake up really early. Ben Tibbetts who was here with us for five days wanted to be on top of the Jungfrau for sunrise. For Marco and I, knowing that after these five days we had many more summits to climb we were not too keen on setting an alarm at 1:30am instead of 6am. Sleeping felt very important during this time. Nonetheless we all agree with leaving early. We knew the sunrise on top of Jungfrau would be magical and the light would be insane for shooting photos with Ben. And we also knew the day would be long. From the Konkordia Hut where we just got, we had almost 10km of flat terrain to skin up to reach the start of the normal route of the Jungfrau. Marco had just joined me for climbing together as many mountains above 4000m as possible during the time he took off for my project. The day before we had a very long, boring and not fun hike of 9 hours, which started under the rain, skis on backpacks and finished in a total white room to reach the Konkordia hut. Marco got really enormous blisters and we knew it would be a very painful day or even week for him. Surprisingly Ben’s alarm did not work. He woke up and saw we were far behind our schedule planned. We knew it would be useless to rush and try to skin fast to reach the Jungfrau for the sunrise. So here we were starting on the flat part of the Konkordia Plaz with the first light of the day, enlightening the beautiful Aletschorn we saw for the first time. We started to skin up at a fine pace, breathing cold air and feeling a light and crispy snow under the skins [1/3] #Adaptation #StayStrong #StayHealthy #Covid19 #AllTogether Photo of @bentibbettsphotography during the Bernese Alps tour for the #LivAlongTheWay project back in March 2017 together with @mbernasocchi (à Bernese Alps) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_DHD6JpN-o/?igshid=1dzncu8cx1mu3

The scenery was stunning, the lights unreal. I had never been in this side of the Bernese Alps before and I was blown away. We were moving well, slowly gaining elevation. The Konkordia Plaz felt already far away and we were alone in this gigantic place were many glaciers cross. The sun was strong, we got hot quickly and thirsty too. As soon as the terrain got steeper we involuntarily slowed down and started to feel our legs heavier. There is always this moment at one point until you feel good again (or not). Slightly above 3800m, we had an exposed traverse above huge seracs. Visually we suspected a quite big wind slab to traverse. Ben went for a few hesitating skinning steps and eventually turned around. There was no point to try to traverse this piece of snow and take the risk to trigger an avalanche that would propel you directly for a big flight above seracs with no chance to survive. I mentally thank the wake up alarm to not have worked. By day light we could see the terrain and the snow aspect. In the dark things and decision could had been different, or not. No one can tell. When you go for 82 mountains, you hope you won’t have to turn around too many times. And today was our first bailing, for a safety reason. 330m below the Jungfrau summit. And it was as simple as this. Take off the skins, switch the bindings and boots to descent mode and ski down. All the views were just « wow». This place is insane, huge, enchanted. The view of Eiger, majestic as always, made me smile. The South face of the Monch was really attractive as a ski down, but for now we were on a different type of « mission » with super light weight skis and mileage behind and in front of us. We tried to appreciate the snow that was very changing and the descent with skis we were not used too but all in all you always make skiing fun. If the mountains, the views and all that happen that day remain well anchored in my head, the main thing I think about is Marco with its tenacity and support. That first day was not an easy one for him. The heat, two huge blisters that were obviously mega painful and coming straight from the office to 4000m was a bit like taking a knock in the head. Despite all this, he woke up everyday, pushed himself so we could keep moving in the project, overpass is discomfort while on ridges (Marco is a real talented skier, ridges were not is cup of tea back then…) to finally get well acclimatised, fit and at ease on days lasting more than 10 hours. Forever thankful to you Marco 🙏🏻 [3/3] #Adaptation #StayStrong #StayHealthy #Covid19 #AllTogether Photo of @bentibbettsphotography during the Bernese Alps tour for the #LivAlongTheWay project back in March 2017 together with @mbernasocchi (à Bernese Alps) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_DHAhfJ_mw/?igshid=16qlvfnte7nk

The summit moments have a tendancy to wipe out all the tough moments to get there 😉 Photo1 : All smile on top of the Finsteraarhorn (4274m, Switzerland) with @mbernasocchi Photo 2 : The other reality. Glacial wind, leading to frozen nose, chicks and fingers. Putting your crampons on and starting to scramble suddenly become much harder and not so fun... Sometimes you just have to grit your teeth... Like many I had been thinking a lot about the situation, how we got here, how we will get out, and what we wil learn out of it. And of course how we could help more. Currently thinking of all the medical teams who give their best 🙏🏻 Lets all stay strong [2/3] A little breath with this photo from the summit ridge of the Gross Grünhorn, Bernese Alps, with @mbernasocchi in 2017 for the #LivAlongTheWay project 📷 @bentibbettsphotography with @tintin_des_bossons #Adaptation #StayStrong #StayHealthy #Covid19 #AllTogether (à Stay strong) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Px-jYpn3X/?igshid=1n2c0xoymif8t

[2/3] Like many other athletes I adopted a new routine with morning yoga and core training (although I prefer to share photos of mountains here). To be honest at first I had no motivation and even worst I felt a bit of anxiety regarding what was happening and all this time I suddenly had. One thing that helped me a lot was 1/ to decrease my time spent on my phone reading the news 2/ to « structure » my day. When things got too uncertain, when there are a lot of « everything and nothing » around me, going back to a well organized day and week brings me serenity and efficiency. #Adaptation #StayStrong #Covid19 Photo of @bentibbettsphotography while climbing Zinalrothorn with @marion.poitevin during the #LivAlongTheWay project back in 2017 (à Stay Healthy) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-FjL0ypJ2k/?igshid=y3p7utqxswss
