#PHnews: Iloilo’s top drug suspect, wife nabbed
ILOILO CITY -- The top drug personality in Iloilo province was arrested on Wednesday night during a buy-bust operation in Pasig village in the northern town of Sara.
Samuel Roche, alias “Totong Patter”, 50, was arrested along with his wife Lea, in a sting operation by the Sara Municipal Police Station and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU).
Samuel handed over to an undercover policeman a heat-sealed plastic sachet of suspected shabu worth PHP20,100.
Maj. Jonathan Pinuela, PDEU chief, said the suspect was reportedly operating in the province’s 5th district.
He said Roche is a businessman trading rice to Negros Occidental.
“When you’re into rice trading, you place the sample of the rice at a transparent ice wrapper. This is where the suspect hid the sachet of shabu,” Pinuela said in an interview.
Also recovered from the suspects are PHP100 and 20 PHP1000 bills, a cellphone, a caliber .22 revolver, 15 live cartridges for caliber .22; and seven more heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance.
Col. Roland Vilela, Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) director, said Roche’s arrest leaves a big impact on the campaign against illegal drugs.
"His arrest will dramatically reduce the supply of illegal drugs in Iloilo, especially in the 5th district towns," he said in a statement.
The couple will be charged with the violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearm and Ammunition Regulations Act). (PNA)
