GIVE THE MAGICAL EXPERIENCE OF TRAVERTINE TO YOUR INTERIOR WITH BHANDARI MARBLE GROUP TRAVERTINE COLLECTIONS

TRAVERTINE
Travertine is a type of limestone that is formed by mineral deposits from natural springs. This sedimentary stone is created by a rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, known as calcite. Other minerals mix together with the calcite to create unique swirls and movement that give travertine its distinctive character. Travertine is a type of limestone whose sediment is composed of calcium carbonates; hot and mineral rich water flow through the limestone and the carbon dioxide released creates the unique features of travertine.
Travertine is recognized for its rustic, distinctive and classic look. The stone is light colored; so it has shades of light brown, gray, gold, white and tan. It can also come in dark tone of rusty red. The iron content of travertine mainly determines its color. Travertine is a natural stone no two travertine will look exactly the same. Depending on the look you want for your floors, you can go with small mosaic tiles or large slabs of travertine.
TYPES OF TRAVERTINE WE HAVE IN OUR STOCK
There are four main types of finish for travertine; tumbled, honed, brushed and polished.
TUMBLED
Tumbled travertine has rounded edges which contribute to its distinctive look; it has more texture than the brushed travertine and also looks more weathered and aged. Polished travertine is glossy and shiny, the colors are richer and they are very smooth and flat.
HONED
Honed travertine is the commonest type of travertine flooring; the surface has been polished flat, but not glossy unlike the polished travertine.
BRUSHED
Brushed travertine shares some features with tumbled travertine and a wire brush is used to abrade the surface to improve its texture.
THE EXCLUSIVE COLLECTION IS HERE
SILVER TRAVERTINE
Silver travertine is a chic color from the travertine family which is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs. This silver colored natural stone has a porous structure and is often used in construction as a building material for houses, offices, hospitals, temples, shrines, swimming pools and bath complexes.
WALNUT TRAVERTINE
A lavish color, Walnut presents a variation of chalky walnut and fawn tones in a rich blend. Besides its appearance and velvety texture, Travertine stability to stay cool underfoot in hot temperatures makes it a premier choice for pool paving and patios.
WHITE TRAVERTINE
Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties.
BHANDARI MARBLE IS ALSO DEALS IN TRAVERTINE TILE

TRAVERTINE FINISHES
Travertine is a versatile product choice as it has many different finishes to help you achieve the look you are going for.
Polished
Polish
Create a look of luxury with the high shine from polished travertine. Polished travertine is smoothed and glossed over to get a shiny reflective surface.
Honed
Honed finishes provide a smooth yet matte finish without any shine. Honed travertine can either be filled or unfilled. A honed look and texture is achieved by grinding and buffing one side of the unfinished stone.
Brushed
The natural look of travertine with a brushed finish. This textured finish features an unfilled exterior and provides a rustic yet sophisticated look. This look is obtained by brushing the surface of the stone with a brush or wire wheel until the preferred texture is achieved.
Tumbled
To create tumbled travertine, pieces of stone are cut, sized and placed in a rubber coated or plastic barrel with an abrasive grit and water. Sometimes a small amount of acid is mixed in. The tub barrel is turned over and over again, allowing for the stones to rub against each other. The edges of the travertine are softened and worn down. This feature provides a much more natural, worn look. Like brushed travertine, tumbled travertine has a high-textured finish.
The major difference between the two is that tumbled travertine has softened edges.
Installation Tumbled travertine should be sealed before and after grouting.

Travertine wall bathroom tile
There’s nothing more timeless than travertine’s earth tones and calming appeal.
Travertine wall bedroom Make your tile design a work of art. Harmony Silverleaf mosaic travertine tile is perfect for highlighting your designer taste.
Travertine offers a stunning variety of natural colors. The colors include variations of beige, brown, taupe and even lustrous silver grey. The stunning variety of color options prove that this stone dominates with versatility in the world of design.
Travertine fireplace
Because travertine is a natural stone, it may have a high variation in coloration and movement. High variation means no two projects will ever be the same, even if the same stone is used. It’s important to lay out your tile in the design you desire before it is installed to ensure you get the look you want.
The price of travertine depends on the type you choose. Travertine can be one of the more reasonably priced stone options. Its reasonable price and rich look make travertine an affordable luxury.
Travertine Floor
Travertine is a common natural stone that is used in bathrooms. Unpolished travertine stone has a naturally nonslip texture. This makes it great for being installed in bathrooms, showers and floors. Travertine is a great stone for being installed around pools if you live in climate that is warm year-round.
DURABILITY
Travertine is not as soft as marble but not as hard as granite. It can scratch if not protected, so be careful when moving heavy objects on your travertine floors. Be conscious of the finish you choose and what kind of area you’re installing it in. Like other natural stone, travertine can lengthen its timeless beauty with proper installation and maintenance. Proper installation plays a large part in the durability of travertine.
FORMATION OF TRAVERTINE
Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock with crystalline-texture and is composed of calcite which is form of a limestone deposited by hot mineral springs. It is formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals and its porosity is due to the presence of organisms such as macrophytes, bryophytes, algae, etc. Its natural colour is white but travertine is also found in tan, creamy or rusty varieties. The red colour of travertine and its different intensity is due to the presence of iron carbonate. This natural stone is mostly formed at the mouth of hot springs or in limestone caves, where it forms different speleothems cave formations such as stalactites and stalagmites. travertine-pool
TRAVERTINE QUARRIES AND SUPPLY
About 50 years ago, until the 1969s, We are the main supplier of travertine and had a monopoly on the market. The most famous quarries in Italy are in Guidonia Montecelio and in Tivoli, while the name of the latter district and the word travertine have the same origin from the Latin word tiburtinus through the Italian travertino. The natural stone was quarried in Italy since Ancient Roman times and was used primarily as building material. Nowadays, significant travertine suppliers are Turkey, Mexico, Peru and Iran. There are two-three small producers in the USA, in its western part and the most famous place for travertine formation, that is also visited by many tourists is Yellowstone National Park. There are also two parks dedicated to this natural stone in Oklahoma.
TRAVERTINE QUALITIES AND USEAGE
One of the most distinctive and preferred features of travertine is its weathered and rustic look, which makes it the perfect stone if you want to recreate this romantic atmosphere at your home. As it is a porous stone, travertine tiles are offered in two variants – filled and unfilled. The filled ones are smoother, more durable and have a more modern look compared to the natural porous ones. The finishing of the tile is also important as it highlights one or another quality of this excellent material.
MOST EFFECTIVE USAGES OF TRAVERTINE
• Travertine, however, is mostly popular as tiles used for floors, walls, backsplashes or counter tops. Its qualities and aesthetic values make it a preferred material both for indoor and outdoor projects. It is often chosen for paving patios or constructing garden paths. You can browse through the great variety of travertine.
• Travertine is a natural stone like Marble, Granite, Onyx, Limestone, Slate etc. The key differences between Travertine and other natural stones stems from the way they are formed. The stone themselves have very different properties such as the hardness of the stone and the appearance.
• Travertine is formed in hot springs and/or limestone caves. It is formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate. In other words, a chemical soup very high in concentration of calcium carbonate precipitates off the liquid and the remaining chemical soup hardens and is compressed into the travertine stone we have today. Kind of like a natural concrete in that you have a soupy mixture that hardens.
• Travertine is not the same as Marble, Granite or Limestone which falls in the metamorphic rock category. Key characteristics of Travertine stone are the holes within the stone which are caused by carbon dioxide evasion or CO2 bubbles in the mixture as it is setting. Metamorphic rock is a rock that has undergone changes through usually pressure and heat. It causes the rock to change or go through a metamorphosisthat often forms crystals in the rock giving granite that sparkling look.
• Travertine has been used for centuries as a building material. The most famous structure built with it is the Coliseum in Rome, Italy but there are tens of thousands of buildings travertine has been used to construct. One of the most recent famous
• The key difference between the two stones is how they are formed. Marble is formed when limestone comes under high pressures and temperatures. Travertine, on the other hand, is formed under additional high pressures and temperatures too, however travertine is formed in hot springs and limestone caves.
• Its beauty and durability make travertine tiles perfect for floors and walls inside the home. Here are the Pros and Cons of Travertine Tiles. The first pro to travertine tiles is the cost. It is about twice the price of other comparable natural stones like marble and yet has very similar durability.
• Travertine is an especially attractive form of limestone that forms around mineral spring deposits. As a flooring material, travertine is typically sold in tile form and comes in a variety of earth tone colors, including tans, browns, rust, and beige.
• Travertine is one of several natural stones that are used for paving patios and garden paths. It is sometimes known as travertine limestone or travertine marble; these are the same stone, although travertine is classified properly as a type of limestone.
• Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from solution in ground and surface waters, or geothermally heated hot-springs. Similar but softer and extremely porous deposits formed from ambient-temperature water are known as tufa.
COST EFFECTIVE
Travertine is a mid-range stone in terms of cost, but this puts it at the high-end in the entire range of flooring materials. A travertine floor averages about $15 per square foot for materials plus labor. Marble, by comparison, averages around $20 per square foot, and granite averages around $12 per square foot. Laminate flooring, at the low end of all flooring materials, can be professionally installed for less than $5 per square foot. Like other natural stone, though, travertine flooring can vary substantially in price—from as low as $3 to as high as $30 per square foot, depending on the quality and finish of the stone. Finishes can range from a natural texture the least expensive to a honed, polished and sealed surface the most pricey.
MAINTANCE AND REPAIR
Maintaining travertine is paradoxically both complicated and simple. Like other natural stone, travertine has microscopic pores that can allow spilled liquids and staining agents to penetrate. This problem can be prevented by applying a penetrating sealer, followed by a barrier surface sealer. This dual treatment needs to be applied during installation, then periodically reapplied throughout the life of the floor. If you want to maintain a glossy surface, more regular resealing will be necessary. But if it is kept properly sealed, travertine is quite simple to clean, requiring only simple damp mopping with a mild soap solution.
This involves carefully breaking up and removing the damaged tile, scraping the subfloor, then installing a new tile with thin-set adhesive, and grouting the joints. If the surrounding floor has weathered, however, the patched area may not match exactly for some time.
DESIGNS FOR TRAVERTINE
Travertine is one of the oldest building materials in existence, and a floor made with travertine adds a sense of age and prestige to the home. At the same time, it has inherently dominant energy that draws attention in a subtle, subdued way, with mild tones found swirling in its hazy, shifting surface effects. Each piece is also a nature-formed work of earth art, creating a one-of-a-kind installation.
Thanks to its soft palette of colors, travertine maintains a reserved dignity that is much more subtle than granite or marble. Available in tans and beiges, grays, and speckled off-white hues, these tiles can bring the towering dominance of earth to a flooring installation without overwhelming a room with dramatic colors.
Travertine Flooring Installation
Like other stone tiles, travertine flooring is installed in much the same way as ceramic tile. A layer of cement board underlayment is applied over the subfloor, then the stone tiles are laid with thin-set adhesive, and finally, the joints are filled with grout. Grouting can be tricky with travertine if the tiles have not been sealed since the grout can stain the material. When using unsealed tiles, it's best to apply a sealer before grouting.
While the installation techniques are similar to those for ceramic tile, travertine poses some unique difficulties. Because this material is very heavy, the floor structure must be strong and stiff enough to support the flooring without excessive bowing or flexing.
Structural reinforcement is sometimes necessary. Travertine is a very hard stone, and ordinary tile-cutting tools are not sufficient to cut it. Instead, a power wet saw equipped with a diamond blade is used. Because of these difficulties, installing travertine is not a popular DIY project; the work is usually left to professionals. If you're installing a new floor, be sure to keep a few extra tiles so you can make perfectly color-matched repairs in the future.
