Environment Secretary Steve Barclay stated, "Our new Act makes use of post-Brexit freedoms to deliver one of our manifesto commitments and strengthen these standards even further by preventing the export of live animals for slaughter and fattening, which we know causes animals unnecessary stress and injury."   Chris Sherwood, Chief Executive of the RSPCA, said: “After more than 50 years of campaigning, we are absolutely thrilled to see that live export of animals has been banned from Great Britain. This means British animals will no longer be sent on gruelling journeys abroad for further fattening and slaughter in cramped and poor conditions with little or no access to food or water. “As one of the first countries in the world to abolish this practice, this vital step for animal welfare sends an important message globally and we hope to see other countries follow suit soon. “As we mark our 200th anniversary as a charity and look to the future of animal welfare, it’s great to see this outdated practice is finally consigned to the past. This ban marks a huge step forward for animal welfare and further shows that we are a nation of animal lovers - who care for every kind. We’d like to say thank you to all our supporters, all those who have campaigned on this issue, and to the UK Government for making this milestone moment for animals happen.”

This is what Mum would call a crazy man’s load, and he wasn’t the first crazy man we passed on these bumpy roads. Later on we passed a huge truck that had recently tipped over spilling all his sacks. Picked up our first hitchhiker. An older lady in a fuzzy grey fleece abaya (they fricking love fuzzy things here) who blessed our van as we drove. One of the roads we were supposed to take was closed due to the snow so instead of driving through the Haute Atlas pass we went through the #tichka Pass. The landscape changed drastically and constantly. DA Grants 2.5 Million Pesos for Livestock Economic Enterprise and Development Program in Palawan

  CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Mimaropa Region, led by Regional Executive Director Engr. Maria Christine C. Inting and Regional Livestock Program Focal Person Dr. Maria Teresa O. Altayo, recently oversaw the turnover of the Livestock Economic Enterprise and Development Program for Goat in Lagow. The project was awarded to the Uma Integrated Farm of the Palawan State University Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PSU-MPC) and took place in Lagow sa Uma Integrated Farm located in Barangay Magbabadil, Aborlan, Palawan.  

Revitalizing Cooperative Development

According to Dr. Altayo, this cooperative grant represents a significant milestone as the first major project of its kind in the entire Mimaropa region. The project, valued at 2.5 million pesos, included the establishment of a goat house and the provision of 36 goat stocks. "This initiative is a response to the government's mandate to strengthen cooperatives. To ensure the project's sustainability, the cooperative will redistribute or transfer the offspring to its members, gradually expanding distribution to the wider community." "Additionally, it is essential that the goats are registered with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to safeguard the project's success," explained Dr. Altayo.  

Empowering Livestock Development

During the official awarding ceremony, Engr. Inting presented the project to the Palawan State University Multi-Purpose Cooperative, expressing hope that it would align with the efforts of the President and Secretary of the DA. The project aims to not only enhance livestock production but also provide farmers with increased yield and income opportunities. "This project addresses the logistics and transportation challenges associated with livestock in the region. Every province should have an empowered and strengthened cooperative capable of undertaking such initiatives." "Eventually, we envision purchasing goats from the cooperative to distribute among other cooperatives across Palawan province." "We will continue to collaborate with the Local Government and the Province of Palawan to ensure we meet your agricultural needs to the best of our ability," said Engr. Inting.  

Acknowledging Gratitude and Responsibility

The PSU-MPC, under the leadership of Dr. Erlinda Ganapin, expressed their gratitude to all those involved in the successful completion and administration of the project. They extended their heartfelt appreciation to the Local Government of Aborlan, the Barangay Council of Magbadil, and the entire community for their support and assistance. The PSU-MPC emphasized their profound gratitude to the Department of Agriculture for providing this remarkable opportunity.
