remembered this very old au concept i’ve had since i was tiny watching ninjago for the first time… it completely unravels everything i enjoy about zane in the early seasons and i refuse to think of the necessary rewrites atm but i needed to make at least this one scene exist. can an au be naught but a single panel that makes me Sad?

as hilarious as the entire sequence in s1e2 is, i’m obsessed with this one shot during the look-how-quirky-zane-is-montage bc while yes the easy explanation is that they’re just showing he’s kinda weird, my personal favorite options are

1. he’s just being silly :] why didn’t you laugh at his great joke guys

and 2. whatever magic pattern recognition system his visual sensors have GENUINELY clocks the mannequins as People sometimes and that’s just a Thing That Happens

i can’t remember which video it was in for the life of me but by far the funniest thing about zane is that he wasn’t a robot until after brent miller auditioned. imagine getting the part and they like your voice so much they completely change the character’s trajectory bc they decided you sounded REALLY COOL but also not human

i can’t actually finish the “everyone gets yoinked from different parts of the series by time travel” fic until i finish my rewatch/catch-up but i am never not thinking about it

wip chronology decisions. poor kai trying to wrangle everyone into actually solving the problem and going home. he thought pixal was normal and would be able to help but then he got Monologued™

love that all zane really changed after finding out he was a robot was saying “according to my calculations ____” instead of “i sense ____”. kid’s still just saying shit with zero actual justification and you know what i respect it

the most important zane character trait to me isn’t that he’s a robot, but that he, fundamentally, is new to it. he’s bad at being a robot. he’s constantly finding out new things about himself and what he can do and excitedly showing them off to his friends like a kid with a new toy. he spent the most important part of his life (in his opinion, bc it’s when he met his friends and started pursuing being a protector) not understanding anything about himself and now he’s constantly discovering something new and it’s so important to me that he’s not reduced to just “the robot guy”. pixal is the one who being a robot comes naturally to, zane is the one who is permanently stuck between human and artificial and at this point is thriving there
