Car rental services and its characteristics
A Car rental company is an organization that rents cars for a brief period, ranging from a couple of hours to a month. It is frequently coordinated with various nearby offices (which permit a client to return a vehicle to an alternate area), and fundamentally situated close to airports or centrally located city regions and regularly supplemented by a website permitting on the online reservations.
Car rental companies principally serve individuals who require a vehicle, for temporary use, the individuals who don't claim their own vehicle, travelers who are away, or proprietors of harmed or damaged vehicles who are anticipating fix or protection insurance. Vehicle rental organizations may likewise serve oneself moving industry needs, by leasing vans or trucks, and in specific business sectors, different sorts of vehicles, for example, bikes or motorcycles may likewise be offered.
Tumblr media
Along with the essential rental of a vehicle, good car rental companies regularly offer additional services, for example, insurance, global positioning system (GPS) navigation systems, theater setups, cell phones, compact Wi-Fi and child safety seats.
If you are looking for the best car rental company here is a list of services the company should provide-
Pocket-friendly prices
You'll need to discover an organization with moderate costs, yet you ought to be cautious while looking at costs between car rental companies. Don't simply pick the company with the least recorded rates—search for hidden expenses. Numerous companies charge you a deposit at that point charge you to upgrade, for airport help and in any event, for an extra driver or a child seat. You'll additionally need to inquire as to whether you have a set number of kilometers or miles you can drive without being charged extra and if a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is remembered for the valuing. Really modest vehicle recruit in Algarve ought not have any of these extra expenses attached onto your expense.
Good Service
Fast, friendly service is another thing to look for when deciding between places to hire a car. Look for a company that has incentives for returning customers. This is a good indication that they have repeat customers who trust them.
Easy Booking options
Booking your rental should not be a difficult task for a customer. Find a company with easy and straightforward online booking with an option to call and speak with someone at the company desk directly. You’re looking for cheap rental service, not trying to add complications in planning your trip.
Convenient Pickup and drop facility
Nothing is more frustrating after a long flight than having to stand in long queues or take public transport in order to be able to pick up your vehicle. A good car rental company offers the option to collect your car at the airport or even have it delivered right at your hotel if that is convenient. There is no reason for the beginning of your vacation to revolve around the location of your chosen car rental company.
Insurance
Good car rental company offers insurance policies. The policies are designed to cover you in case there is an accident. Choosing to have insurance on your rented car means that you are protected no matter what troubles may arise. The insurance should also cover any damage that may happen to the vehicle.
Good Vehicle Variety and Condition
You don’t want to be stuck with somebody else’s idea of a good vehicle. Look for a wide range of quality, good-condition vehicles. A car rental company that has a good selection of vehicles is set up to help you get the type of car you want, not just the limited types of cars they carry. Additionally, when the company’s vehicles are in good working order, you don’t have to worry about being charged for damage that the car already had when you received it.
Set of drivers
The drivers that would be appointed to the customers should be well disciplined and should carry themselves well. Punctuality is also one of the key factors as far as drivers are concerned because nothing is more valuable than the customers time.

British Airways strike threat: When would the pilot walkout happen and which flights would be affected?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Passengers booked on summer flights on British Airways are about to learn whether their travel plans could be torn up by a strike by pilots at BA.
For the past four weeks nearly 4,000 members of flight crew who belong to the British Airline Pilots’ Association (Balpa) have been voting on industrial action in a dispute over pay. This is how the next few days and weeks could play out.
What is the dispute about?
We’ll tell you what’s true. You can form your own view.
From 15p €0.18 $0.18 USD 0.27 a day, more exclusives, analysis and extras.
Subscribe now
Pay. British Airways says it is offering a pay rise worth 11.5 per cent over three years, well above the rate of inflation. BA says: “We are pleased that the Unite and GMB trade unions, which represent nearly 90 per cent of all British Airways colleagues, have agreed to recommend this fair offer of 11.5 per cent over three years.”
The airline also points to the number of job applications from pilots from other carriers, which it says are running at 1,000 per year, as an indication of how well its pilots are treated.
But Brian Strutton, general secretary of Balpa, says: “BA has been enormously profitable, and the employees should have a fair share of that success which, after all, they produce for the company.”
All but around 500 of the airline’s 4,500 pilots belong to Balpa. The current dispute covers pilots working at Heathrow and Gatwick. It does not involve the CityFlyer operation based at London City.
As the pilots have been voting, sporadic negotiations have been going on between the two sides at the conciliation service Acas, but they broke off on Friday with no evidence of significant programs progress.
What happens next?
The Balpa strike ballot closes at noon on Monday 22 July, with the result expected early afternoon. The union is obliged to inform British Airways and its members first.
History suggests the pilots will vote overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action. This is standard in aviation, and strengthens the negotiators’ hand. No industrial action will be announced immediately, because BA, as is now traditional in industrial disputes, is seeking a High Court injunction against Balpa on the grounds of legal technicalities involving the ballot.
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
If BA wins the injunction, Balpa can call another ballot or re-start negotiations.
If the application is rejected, then Balpa is likely to announce industrial action. The union is required two weeks’ notice, which means the earliest any strike could begin is Tuesday 6 August.
While it is decades since British Airways’ pilots went on strike, in other dispute – both at BA and other airlines – is to call industrial action for one or more relatively brief spells rather than an indefinite walk-out.
What is the likely effect of any strike?
It depends how many pilots walk out. Another feature of strikes at British Airways over the past decade – mainly involving cabin crew – is that a significant proportion of union members continue to work.
The airline will endeavour to maintain a near-normal service on some routes, particular on key long-haul links from Heathrow and Mediterranean links from Gatwick, using non-striking pilots.
Routes such as Heathrow-Miami could be particularly prioritised because of the large number of passengers using the link in connection with cruises.
But many of the 700 or so British Airways flights each day could be grounded, affecting tens of thousands of passengers on strike days – and some on “adjacent” days. BA will not roster pilots who are going to strike to, say, Los Angeles if they would not be working on the day they are due to fly back.
Which flights would be cancelled?
The airline is working on its plans, but in order to get as many passengers to their destinations as possible there are some obvious candidates for cancellation – starting with the Singapore-Sydney section of BA’s only Australian route. It consumes a lot of pilot time and alternative carriers are readily available.
Links on which there are frequent flights on British Airways’ partner airlines are also likely to see deep cuts: US points served by American Airlines, Heathrow-Madrid and Gatwick-Barcelona, and of course Heathrow-Doha – where BA’s part-owner, Qatar Airways, has many daily flights.
When would cancellations be announced?
The best guess is: a few days ahead, with the possibility of added “on-the-day” disruption – partly because air-traffic congestion in Europe is likely to delay many flights once again in August.
What options will be offered if my flight is cancelled?
British Airways is obliged, under European air passengers’ rights rules, to get travellers to their destinations as swiftly as possible, buying tickets on other airlines – from easyJet to Emirates – if that is necessary.
The big problem is: many flights are fully booked in August, a peak month for travel.
The airline also has an unlimited duty of care, providing meals and accommodation until the passenger can be transported to their destination. But it will deflect claims for “consequential losses,” such as hotel or rental car expenses that cannot be used.
Will I get compensation?
Last year the Civil Aviation Authority was insistent that Ryanair should pay compensation of €250 or €400 per passenger, depending on the destination, and presumably it will urge any travellers affected by a British Airways strike to do the same; long-haul passengers would be entitled to €600.
I can’t afford to wait to find out if my flight is cancelled. Should I book an alternative now?
No. At present the airline is insisting normal terms and conditions apply for anyone who wants to change or cancel their flight.
Were a strike to be called, it is likely that BA would allow some flexibility to passengers – for example offering full refunds, enabling travellers to seek alternative flights. But already fares on alternative airlines are increasing rapidly, as travellers making fresh arrangements book away from British Airways because of the strike threat. The dispute is already having an impact on bookings, which is a consequence of the strike ballot being called.
Who will blink first?
I sense that British Airways is prepared to take a strike rather than, as BA would see it, cave in. In the cabin crew dispute a decade ago, and more recently with the Mixed Fleet strikes, the airline has taken a relatively hard line.
Surely an August strike would cause untold damage to British Airways’ revenue and profits?
The cost-per-day could run into tens of millions of pounds, involving lost revenue, additional care costs and buying tickets on other airlines, but actually August is the optimum month for a strike from BA’s perspective. Business travel, which bankrolls the British Airways operation, is at a minimum.
Would you buy a ticket on BA from 6 August onwards – and, if so, would you expect to reach your destination?
Yes, and yes. But not necessarily on time.

Best Airline and Hotel Innovators in 2017 From a Business Traveler’s Perspective
Air France La Première offers a residential feel for its top-tier guests. Air France
Skift Take: Here's to some of the most innovative and thoughtful brands in travel today. These companies are doing the heavy lifting to make travel and hospitality more inspiring.
— Colin Nagy
Colin Nagy, head of strategy at Fred & Farid, a global advertising agency, writes an opinion column for Skift on hospitality, innovation, and business travel. Today, he cites his personal favorites — not necessarily Skift’s — for top innovators in 2017.
It’s been an exciting year for travel and as this column has long argued: Where business travelers spend their money matters. There are brands that actually care about customer experience, and others seem to be driven only by cost cuts, earnings per share, and the bottom line.s
As we close out 2017, it is worth highlighting inspiring efforts in travel and hospitality. Here’s to the companies that are innovating, and doing the heavy lifting to make travel and hospitality inspiring.
Best Airline Lounges The lounge wars are heating up, and top carriers put a lot of time, effort and thought into pre-departure spaces. But no one has been doing it as well as Cathay Pacific. Noted designer Ilse Crawford nailed the aesthetic perfectly, with comfortable yet stylish chairs, deep woods, polished gold fixtures and the classic Cathay touches like a noodle bar.
All of the new lounges are wonderful, and special mention goes again to the Pier First lounge in Hong Kong for being absolutely superb in its hushed, residential, yet inspiring feel. A recent traveling companion remarked to me that she didn’t want to leave to get on the plane.
Best U.S. Domestic Airline It doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles, but I recently moved a good amount of transcontinental travel over to Alaska Airlines. The reason? The staff is superb. It is good value for money, and every touch point reflects people that care about their jobs, even down to how quickly your bags arrive.
Everything exceeds the standard of most U.S. carriers. The staff cares and it is apparent. Bonus points for having an easy to use frequent flyer program that allows for no-hassle redemptions on the likes of Cathay and Emirates.
Best Semi-Private Concept I love the Surfair concept. Subscribers can fly all they want within California, and now, Europe. The planes are great, the lounges are thoughtful, and with the rise of more people commuting to Europe because of Brexit, the airline’s recent move to London City Airport from Luton makes a ton of sense.
Best Airports This is a always a hot topic, and typically Changi gets the lion’s share of the votes, but my favorite airports are Hong Kong International Airport and Helsinki’s Vantaa. They are both easy to navigate, inspiring, and make me wish we could replicate them and pollinate them across the U.S.
Hong Kong’s hub, designed by Norman Foster, frames a range of international liveries and verdant hills in the distance beautifully. Helsinki feels distinctly Finnish from the signage to the floors and the stores that are selling Finnish products and not just the predictable global soulless chains.
Both are inspired hubs for international travel. In the U.S., I really love the vibe of Austin- Bergstrom International Airport. I It’s not the flashiest, but it just works in terms of easy security, friendly TSA and lounge staff, and just capturing the vibe of the music- and food- crazed city.
Best Car Rental Once you rent from Silvercar, it is hard to go back to a legacy car rental service. Everything is an Audi A4, with all rentals booked from a mobile app, and the experience is friction free on arrival.
Prices are reasonable you can now find the service in 17 markets across the U.S. Plus, the cars allow you some dignity and style for business travel on the road, as opposed to arriving in that Sonata from a bigger chain rental agency.
Best Business Class Product The Reverse Herringbone seat configuration flown by American and Cathay on their Boeing 777 300s has long been a favorite. But recent flights on a few Airbus A350s has me converted to the seats that Qatar and Cathay fly on this plane.
It is a reasonable approximation of the product mentioned above, however the added bonus of more humidity and lower cabin pressure on the Airbus product makes me feel better after a long flight. Which, when traveling for business, is a priceless commodity.
Best First Class Product This year was the year for Air France’s La Premiere, with the most seasoned, discerning travelers raving about every element of the experience from end-to-end. Bonus points for the privacy curtain instead of a hard, sliding door, and also the soft, residential hues in the cabin.
While the Middle Eastern carriers like Etihad have a lot of bling and perhaps more space, this product is capturing the hearts and minds of long-haul flyers for something different: some soul.
Best Night’s Rest on a Plane I’ve never slept better than on JAL’s First Class product, complete with a Japanese-made Airweave mattress. The bed is large and comfortable, and the linens are great.
Best Collaboration American and Casper came together with an inspired bedding collaboration. I like that a startup has paired up with a legacy carrier to improve passenger experience while also introducing more people to the brand. It’s smart and comfortable.
Best In-Flight Gear Nothing beats clothing from Outlier for long-haul travel. It makes gear that looks elegant, minimal, and discrete, but is made from technical fabrics that stretch, repel stains, and generally travel incredibly well. You can travel a lot lighter without having to bring a ton of things, and this is a founding principle of the brand. Also, Outlier’s merino wool shirts, hoodies and cardigans are incredible to take on the road.
Best New Boutique Hotel Tokyo’s new, 15-room boutique Trunk represents an inspired, creative offering in a town that needs more boutique hotels. The property dials in local culture well, and features a flea market with local artisans. The tricky part is finding room availability Trunk is in demand.
Best Bar Because of the geopolitical intrigue and the hushed conversations that happen there, not to mention a nicely made Martini, the bar at the Four Seasons in Doha is an elegant and must-visit venue. The old standby of Claridge’s Bar in London is a close runner up.
Best Hotel The best anticipatory service and incredible suites go to the Upper House in Hong Kong, which is year after year my favorite hotel in the world. General manager Marcel Thoma runs an incredibly tight ship, with a staff that genuinely cares deeply about customer experience. For more on that, read my interview. Every frequent traveler I know who has experienced it speaks in reverent terms and yearns to go back.
Best Hotelier Liz Lambert continues to amaze with her hotels. Her recent hotel opening, the San Cristobal in Todos Santos, north of Cabo San Lucas, weaves in inspired design with great community integration. She’s set to open a re-edit of the Phoenix in San Francisco very soon.
Everything about her work is inspiring, down to the products offered in each hotel’s custom shops.
Best Standard Room A recent stay at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong had me pondering the perfect, standard room setup. It was the ideal size and proportion. There was a wonderful seating and work area by the window, curtain partitions, a generous bathroom, and closet space. All of this was wrapped with some of the best service in the business, in a classic setting.
Airline Products to Lust After in 2018 Both Singapore and Emirates have released their version of new first class suites. There’s perhaps less ostentatious bling than before, but each offer an interesting vision into how the passengers in the front of the plane wants to fly.
Singapore offers a fully sized bed and a separate, reclining seat, while Emirates took inspiration from Mercedes into its completely overhauled cabin with neutral hues and a detail that will delight travelers. Among them is individual temperature controls at your seat.
Frequent flyers will be salivating to get their hands on both of these first class seats as they roll out.

Excellent Etihad First Apartment Award Space Available to JFK
There are very few in-flight accommodations more luxurious than Etihad’s First Apartment, but award space is often difficult to come by for the one route in and out of the United States, which is New York-Abu Dhabi. This is partially due to Etihad being fairly strict about releasing space, but also because there has been only one A380 operating on the route.
However, starting in June, Etihad will begin flying a second A380 between these two cities, and as a result right now there is plenty of open First Apartment award space on the return leg from Abu Dhabi to New York.
You can find this space by searching on Etihad’s “Flights with miles” webpage for the flight from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to New York (JFK). Any days beyond June 1 that show Guest First seats available at 117,700 Etihad miles are A380 First Apartment seats at the lowest award level. If you see awards available at this level, you should be able to book the flight using your American AAdvantage miles as well — for a whopping 115,000 miles each way. You may need to call AA’s Australia reservations line (+61 02-9101-1948) in order to book, as US agents have had issues accessing Etihad award space in the past.
This particular date only has 1 seat per flight, but you can easily find 2 seats for other days on the calendar.
Additionally, Etihad is a transfer partner of both American Express Membership Rewards and the Citi ThankYou program, so you can get these seats with miles earned from cards such as the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, the Platinum Card® from American Express, or the Citi Prestige. Note that while point transfers from Membership Rewards to Etihad should be instant, transfers from Citi’s ThankYou program can take up to 6 days.
You may also be able to book this space using miles from some of Etihad’s little-known partners. Etihad is not in a standard alliance, but partners with American, ANA, and Korean Airlines. The Korean Air connection means you should also be able to use Chase Ultimate Rewards points from the Chase Sapphire Reserve or the Chase Sapphire Preferred to book.
Of course, the question you may be asking is “but how do I get to Abu Dhabi in the first place?” Well, even though Etihad is not releasing any space from New York to Abu Dhabi, you still have a few options.
The easiest might be to book your outbound flight from Washington-Dulles, where first class Etihad space to Abu Dhabi at 121,222 miles is relatively plentiful when you get about 2 months out from departure. If you’re originating in New York and booking with a partner like AA, you should be able to tack on the positioning flight from New York to Dulles for no additional miles as long as there’s saver level space.
Note this is not First Apartment space as Etihad flies a 787-900 out of Washington DC, but it’s still a very nice first class option. However, since the First Apartment space for the return isn’t readily available until June when the second A380 comes online, you’ll have to book your First Apartment flight now and then wait and hope space opens up to get to Abu Dhabi as you get closer to your travel dates.
Another option is to book a business class award on Etihad’s 777 from JFK to Abu Dhabi, which like the Dulles departure tends to open up closer to your travel dates so you have to have a little faith that you’ll be able to find a flight down the line.
You can also look at outbound options on Emirates from New York to Dubai (DXB) on their own A380 or Qatar from New York to Doha (DOH) on the A350 — both usually have good award availability.
This is a terrific chance to fly in ultra-luxury on the A380, so if you’ve been dying to try out Etihad’s First Apartment, don’t miss out!
