The Grim Reaper and The Swallow Au

Basically the concept of grim reaper is that they used to be people but died and became reapers (idrk why yet)

They retain some of their personalities and stuff but they essentially cannot remember who they are and can't/or unable to question who they used to be

They're also wired to focus on their sole purpose which is to take things who have died into the afterlife (includes animals)

But hb is an exception while he does do what he's supposed to do, he isn't fully committed to it (so that it's still somewhat movie accurate personality with the whole not following order thing HAHSHA)

So essentially the afterlife entities don't exactly like him and humans (that r on verge of death) don't like him cause uknow no one wants to DIE (minus those few exceptions where it's like a nice old grandma dying of old age ueueu)

In terms of what jia is she's like,,,idk a swallow that can shape shift (some magic bs and animal spirits and stuff)

In this world, there are like a select few animals that can shape shift/are sentient (BECAUUUSEE they also used to be humans but we're reborn. The idea is human --> died unfairly --> given a second chance to turn into a shape shifter --> if they do good/don't do anything outrageously bad in the shape shifter life then they are able to be reincarnated into humans in the next life [the bar isn't very high bc they died unfairly in the previous life.])

The animals are primarily animals and can't maintain human forms for that long and generally takes alot of energy to do so

They can also see other supernatural entities but doesn't mean they are necessarily friendly with all of them

So one day hb and jia meet cause yknow Heeheehaahaa

And bc hb is used to other things being scared of him (grim reaper stuff) he's a little confused why she hasn't run/flown away yet.

But basically jia isn't scared cause generally swallows r optimistic and all around good vibes all the time becaaauuusueee swallows, as google says, represent good luck, safe travels, happiness, and positivity.

And he's like well how would you know that

And she's just cause I have good luck

So now they start an odd friendship between the grim reaper and a swallow 🔥

And then to the angst bits

Basically it's probably at the very end of their time tgt

And it's approaching winter and jia is supposed to migrate

But she doesnt

Cause she wants to stay here beccccauuuuuuussssseeee she's on her last legs

She dying brouh so it means if she migrates she'll never see him again

But hb doesn't know this cause grim reapers are only told of the few minutes before the exact moment someone dies

And some other shid I haven't figured out happens and basically how they end is like two ways

One is the reincarnation pathway woohoo where jia dies as a swallow and hb takes her to the afterlife (sadly) and after a couple of hundred years probably she is reincarnated but he can never approach her again like he did before

Hb essentially refuses to take her into the afterlife (cause he doesn't rlly follow his duties like I said) and both of them are by other grim reapers

Jade Coin Au

Spirit Jia + Antique shop worker Hobie

Hobie owns this antique store that sells all kinds of old stuff that even he doesn't know where it came from. He kinda took over it after working as a part timer there when the old owner passed.

One day he finds this jade coin that looks like SUPER out of place cause it's really clean looking and almost glowing if he squinted.

So he holds it up to inspect it but when he takes it away again, he finds himself in a completely different location.

Unbeknownst to him, the jade coin is a key to the spirit realm and acts as a gateway which accidentally brought him there.

The jade coin also belongs to the spirit (Jia) who manages a certain domain of the spirit world known for entertainment especially gambling.

So he kind of stumbles around the spirit world a little disoriented and confused cause one: spirit logic and magic and shid and two: the aesthetic of this spirit world is very different to where he lives (london..?)

But at one point he finds a seemingly 'abandoned' store and enters. Unknowingly, the building belonged to a spirit, Zee (GUMI'S CHARACTER RAHH 💥💥) who helps Jia run a casino (her main establishment) discovers that the jade coin is in his possession and takes him to meet her. Although the meeting was a bit startling since she had a gun pointed to his back AHSHAHSHSJ

--> The casino acts as second chances for souls to win certain wishes ie. visit human world as ghost, more idk ghost powers and shied, etc

And ofc he's not dumb and recognises that the jade coin has some form of importance and essentially bargains with Jia to let him go back or at least teach him how to go back.

(Maybe win/bet on a game but he's just crazy lucky and manages to beat her) she's just like 😧

He manages to return back to his little shop in london but ever since visiting the spirit world he has this nagging curiosity abt the world since it's so incredibly different.

And so he would go exploring in the spirit world, occasionally taking back antiques. However he realises he'd totally get super lost in this new place and somehow coerces Jia into acting as his spirit tour guide HAHSJA

Jia isn't super strict on rules and stuff unlike other leading spirits of other domains so she kinda just goes 🤷‍♀️ and follows him around.

Because he's human it sometimes causes conflicts with more aggressive spirits but because the jade coin has a form of connection to Jia, it acts as a summoning object to summon her if he ever needs to.

Like she'll literally appear in a cloud of smoke and then cast some spirit spells or smth HAHSHA

Over time, he spends more and more time in the spirit world but it has consequences on his soul as it starts to wander from his mortal body.

And at the point where his soul finally fades to fix itself into the spirit world, Jia essentially see his mortal body disintegrate in front of her,

However he doesn't seem alarmed at all in a way where it seems like he knew it was going to happen to him. He was willing to take the risk to continue exploring the spirit world as well as by her side.

Over the next few days or so, his soul needs to be readjusted to the spirit world so his presence disappears for a while (standard soul procedure and stuff) but Jia never stopped looking for him.

Until the day she finally sees him again but souls don't recall memories of when they were alive, he forgot about her since the time he spent with her was when he was still alive.

She feels so guilty for what had happened as she spends another couple of days before finally deciding that she was willing to trade her souls for a him to be resurrected in the human world again since he didn't even die fairly.

So he is resurrected like nothing ever happened (time passes differently in spirit world cause plot hole 😍)

His memories of everything that ever happened in the spirit world and all that he is left with is a weird jade coin he doesn't remember having and a empty feeling in his chest.

Mei has this tattoo parlour in one of the more quieter streets of New Yan and Jia knows her vaguely prior to The Fire™ bc it's like maybe 20 mins away from her apartment and she was doing her spider girl things and beating crime. EITHER WAY she knows abt it.

I was thinking abt what her personality was like and then at one point I was like 🧍🧍I feel like I'm just ripping off hb's and watering it down ARGH cause what I was thinking is that Mei's someone who's clear in what beliefs she has. It's kind of a my life my choice kinda thing. So basically head strong, confident and kinda stoic sort of gal. And then the watering down gets even worse CAUDE I WANTED HER TO LIKE HELP JIA BY HOUSING HER TEMPORARILY AFTER THE FIRE HAPPENED?? BUT THEN I WAS LIKE ISNT THAG JUST HOBIE SND GWEEENNNN❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓ ARGH EHERE R MY ARTISTIC LIBERTIES THIS IS SO CRUNGE defaming my own name smh 😞😞 but like it makes more sense why jia would like hb if this happened bc she would've been subconsciously subjected to this type of personality prior to meeting him ❓ she also thinks mei is so cool in the way she carries herself so it would make sense for jia to like these personality traits ig

Some lore stuffs + how her story ends

This is kinda all over the place bc I don't have a coherent idea but I just need to write it all down before I forget

How Jia was bit was on a hot ass day and she basically fell asleep on a spider and gained powers unknowingly

Doesn't find out for maybe a week

Has a weird dream one night where she basically meets a deity in her dream and the exchange was literally like

"You, Jialin Chen, now bear the powers to protect this la-"

"Uhm yea no thanks, pass 😬"

"WHAT?"

And then a comedic exchange occurs between mortal and god haha! Until the deity was like ENOUGH this is your DESTINY you will bear it whether you like it or NOT 👹 so Jia's kinda like alright fine damn 🙄 but obviously we all know how she really feels abt the whole situation (she hates it bc of issues) but anyways

The reason why it took a whole week is cause uhmmm plot hole lelel or smth the deity can't actually interfere directly with the world

EITHER WAY this is basically spoilers for endgame but it's not like I'll ever make a coherent plot bc I'm too lazy and dum but basically

The deity of Jia's universe is border on obsessive with creating a story line and destiny and heroes and stuff like that and ofc it has to be perfect (bc ofc it has to be, totally not cliche or anything)

Anyways this obsession makes them interfere TOO much with Jia's universe because if the deity was never this obsessed

Jia probably would've gotten over her issues (bc she's meets someone to help her copeeee 😋😋 cougjocughcgpuccough)

But bc the deity is an unreasonable shithead, they're literally the root of every problem:

They're responsible for Jia's split soul because of how abrupt her duties were suddenly forced on her

Bc of the split soul problem, it nearly upsets the world balance that could've been very bad for the universe! (the day she had lost the plot and had a existential crisis breakdown I think I posted it here but basically on that day she was flickering between both before Lin took control)

-> the logic is rlly,,, idk nonsensical for this bc what I thought as world making is that you can't have two souls in control at once and it goes again natural laws so it nearly ficked up her world cause it AINT SUPOSE TO HAPPEN ITS NEVA SUPOSE TO HAPPENNN but moving on

So then Lin switches in place of Jia and the world balance is briefly restored YAYY 🎉 everything is fine‼️

❌ WRONG ❌

Cause now Lin went and 'broke up' (idk it wasn't rlly a break up bc she never said 'lets break up' but she kinda did go 'we aren't meant for each other 🖕' and dipped) with hb so NOW HES GOING THRU IT and the rest of her friends back at spider society are like ???? What the??? Fuck???

Lin does manage to spend a few days or more at the hq cause technically she is still Jia but just

Different

But everyone's kinda weirded out cause she's Serious™ now and even Miguel's kinda like wattafack 🧍 plus the fact she has long white hair that spawned out of nowhere so they kinda piece some form of logic together that she's a different Jia

Anyways some time passes and one day an especially big anomaly is warned abt in Jia's (still Lin) universe which is bizarre cause they're not usually this big but it's all because of that STOOPID FUKASS deity GOING AROUND FUKIN THINGS UP and somehow created this ridiculously bad threat as a 'enemy' for the 'hero of their story' to defeat

The biggest problem with the anomaly is that while it doesn't really like, belong in Jia's universe, it doesn't belong in any OTHER universe either BECAUSE THAT DEITY BOUGHT IT UP OUTTA NOWHERE BC THEYRE PSYCHO I need to stop hating on characters that I literally made anyways

So HQ can't exactly deal with it like they usually do but they can try to offer assistance at least

Obviously for obvious (cliche) reasons CERTAIN PEOPLE are gonna be there cause yknow they still care abt Jia even tho she's changed (to Lin momentarily)

Battle occurs blah blah I'm not good with action scenes and things are looking a littttlee bleak for Lin and Co and all the sudden Lin receives a bad injury that nearly knocks her unconscious but thru her ringing ears and muted background noise she hears SOMEBODDYYY CALLING HER NAAMMEEE (god I really wonder who)

Because her state of unclarity from the Blunt Force Head Trauma makes things a little weird, the fine line between Jia and Lin also becomes a little muddled and the Jia that's been hiding behind Lin can hear his voice and it quite literally brings her out of that dark room in her mind to control again so TLDR Jia is back again instead of Lin

Reunion happens for maybe 3 minutes tops before shit hits the fan again and suddenly the deity has teared through time space fabric out of anger to speak directly to them mortal little earthlings on the ground because they're a little bitch

All because they thought Lin was the true protagonist they've been searching for all along and now 'that insolent fool' (hobie) has ruined everything (he does no wrong)'

But suddenly because the deity is in direct contact with the mortal world, they're like wait 🤨 you're not from this universe and sees other things also not from this universe and goes on a tangent about how they don't need to rebuild a 'story' anymore and can just find another 'story' to pilot (TLDR AGAIN: local deity discovers universe theft and wants to ditch this universe cause Jia's spiderman story wasn't perfect and now wants to find another universe to force to become their 'perfect story')

Obviously spider people are like 😨😨😨 UHMMM NO TF UR NOTTT so they start retreating (as they should tbh) and Jia's like helping to round up people to gtfo of her universe before some batshit deity absorbs them or smth

Atp bits of her universe is already crumbling and disintegrating because the deity is already trashing it because it's worthless and imperfect now (ngl me when art 😭😭)

So now it's the last of the people to go back thru the portals and its Jia and Hb :)) (y'all should know what's coming next)

Truthfully, Jia wants to so so badly go thru the portal to stay with the rest of them but she knows that there was the possibility of her connection with the deity of her world and her as a creation from the said deity

So she says goodbyes

Pushes him thru

And throws in her watch before it closes properly so the FUCK ASS DEITY CANT GET ANY KIND OF CONNECTION TO THE MULTIVERSE

And thus it concludes her coming of age plot because she found the proper courage to do what was right in all senses and came to terms with her spider girl identity

Even though she had so much she wanted to do with the rest of them was what she had thought while the thread of her universe on the multiverse crumbled into nothingness

ANYWAYS THE REAL CONCLUSION IS THE DEITY IS THE REAL ANOMALY THEIR OBSESSION DROVE THEM INTO AN ANOMALY AND INTERFERING WITH THE LIVING WORLD but thats kinda what happens when you've been living for centuries, you kinda go a little nuts

There is this convenience store on the street corner. Truthfully speaking there's nothing too special about it. The bold fluorescent green sign stuck to the storefront was just like any other Eleven Seven. The moderately overpriced products that offered upon its white shelves was just like any other. Truly it was just a typical and standard convenience store.

Ordinary.

Perhaps with an even more ordinary afternoon shift employee.

Of course, with a normal store came its normal customers. Faces that the employee had long committed to her memory after seeing them stop by so frequently. A nice boy who was clearly crushing on his blonde friend. A cute teenage couple. A weary professor from her university with his spirited coworker. A biker.

Ah, that biker.

Despite the months she had worked at that convenience store, despite the kinds of people she's seen; her fascination would inevitably waver towards the biker that always came in late at night. To her, he was nothing more than a vague curiosity. At least that's what she tells herself. It was hard not to think about the spiked collars and wristbands that naturally called the attention of the eyes with the way they glint in the fluorescent lights. The patched shirt and pants that were torn and ripped in a fashionable way. Or not. She didn't really know. Occasionally, she caught glimpses of his bike parked outside, albeit it was sometimes difficult as the jet black melted into the night. The only proof of it ever being there was the reflected green on the shiny paint surface.

Meeting was never unpleasant but parting was never particularly memorable either. He didn't speak much. In fact he hardly ever took off his helmet. It was probably an efficiency thing, she had assumed, the helmet being troublesome to take on and off after all. Standing at a height well above her, he loomed intimidatingly but the girl had learned over time that was just how his vibes were. Just another customer. Yet she couldn't deny the way she would inhale sharply and look away when she found dark eyes, hidden well behind the tinted visor, looking back. He was a regular at that convenience store on the street corner. He didn't really have much of a choice, it was the closest place that offered any kind of sustenance at this time of night despite how ridiculously priced it was. Capitalism, he would mumble. Previously, entering that store would much rather be avoided. That mean old lady that would squint assumingly at him was less than pleasant on every occasion. Then she was gone. Instead of a face constantly pulled into a frown, he found himself staring at a younger one. A nicer one.

A rather prettier one.

But there was nothing more to it than that. At least that's what he tells himself. Without as much as a second glance, he would leave with his bag in hand. She was just an ordinary convenience store employee, that's all. He found himself back in the parking lot under the green light from the neon store sign the very next night. She was standing there behind the counter, earbuds in as she sipped on a milk carton. Milk? He had thought to himself. The ring of the bell when the door opened drew her attention, her eyes slid over to glance at him before offering the standard store employee greeting. Soon, he was standing at the counter again as she rang up items. And again.

And again.

Months ease by with him never missing a day of rolling into the parking lot of that convenience store on his bike. To him, she was a gravitational force he didn't quite understand. Pulled in her direction, he found his heart leading his legs instead of his head. He knew nothing of her. Her likes, dislikes, everything outside of that and the in betweens. He often wondered what it was about that convenience store employee that drew his chest tight whenever he walked up to its counter. He didn't like it, it felt superficial. Yet all the same he couldn't help but feel the visor of his helmet fog slightly as his head grew warm whenever she glanced up. She was a stranger he knew nothing of besides the name displayed on the worn badge on her apron and the carton of milk always beside her. So he would leave a purchased carton on the counter. A quiet offering. Meeting is like the autumn afternoon, quiet but enchanting every time as the sun casts a warm, orange glaze onto the world.

He leaves again into the night, heart in his throat as the engine tries to roar as loud as the pounding in his ears.

It was a curious thing, two people of entirely different genres meeting in a not so extraordinary store. Like two sides of a coin, supposedly never meant to meet face to face. Stars that were universes apart. The sun and the moon that never see each other in the same sky.

My 5k word essay on why I like bringing pain and suffering to the two idiots I love dearly (A thesis)

At this point I'm pretty sure most people can tell I enjoy pulling angst out of nowhere for absolutely NO reason necessary other than pain heeheehaahaa well it ain't gonna stop 😁 CAUSE TRUST THAT I will make sure every au I ever make of these two end in numbingly tragic angst one way or the other 🦅 jkjk they won't all be that bad it'll just have varying degrees of sadness

I actually do have a reason for never giving them a happy (canonical or implied) happy ending ☝️ the thing abt me is every detail or like choice I make in character design/relationship/etc is that it's always intentional (most of the time) like there's always some kind of corny reason behind it bc I'm jwndkwjd insane and just think too hard abt two characters that don't even exist.

So like so like

I am an absolute loser for tropes like 'in another life' or 'in every life' or just anything among those lines. Like genuinely it does smth irreparable to my brain it's not even funny.

And basically the thought process for jipunk was like they're LITERALLY from different universes which quite literally means they can't end up together bc it's just not possible. But tbh the whole multiverse logic and how it works is up to interpretation cause y'know it's just a movie but personally I see it as smth pretty impossible for lore sake and stuff HAHSHA

So because the 'original' jipunk (atsv versions) can't end up together, I decided to go and think

"HMM."

A character analysis of a character that doesn't even actually exist besides the boundaries of my own brain

Another essay in which I go completely unhealthily insane about my own character. Once again unchecked, unproofreaded, un-everythinged

Jia is a character who I tried to put layers into, or as much as I have really tried because my brain is far too smooth to come up with well written complex characters. Seeing as I've never actually introduced her personality or lore, I'll occasionally give overviews to give certain contexts. While she still isn't fully fleshed out, I'll just be regurgitating things I've pulled from my brain because it's one am and I need to release this pent up energy somehow.

A core theme of Jia's character is uncertainty. This ranges from parts of her personality to her backstory and her journey as 'Spider Girl'.

backstory

Let's discuss her backstory first briefly. Jia was born outside of China and grew up in various places. As a child, her family was constantly on the move for mostly work reasons from her parents. Her parents themselves weren't bad parents but weren't the kind of people that were meant for raising children. Both of her parents worked as scientists that travelled often for research purposes and while they loved Jia, their love for their work was far greater. Their dreams were far greater than Jia. Being raised in such instability both in terms of location and emotional connection, would inevitably lead to her developing issues with her communication on an emotional level which would then prove to be a problem that contributes to her uncertainty as 'Spider Girl' and her 'not so canon event'.

personality + attitude

The uncertainty within Jia's personality is buried underneath her other qualities. Not in the sense where she's creating a fake personality but she has just pushed it aside to quite literally not think about it. The most literal example of this is her split soul concept. Her dwelling uncertainty of her role and her future as 'Spider Girl' has literally brought a manifestation and caused a split within herself. Unconsciously, Jia had developed a fear for uncertainty which led her habit of often just not thinking about it instead. The uncertainty of her future was increased tenfold when she became 'Spider Girl' which was what caused her to become so hesitant to wholeheartedly accept her role and responsibility. As far as Jia is aware, she only knows she doesn't feel the will to fully commit to her duties as a hero but doesn't know what the cause of this reluctance is leading to guilt because she's aware that 'with power comes responsibility'. This inner turmoil was the main drive of her soul splitting as she very reluctantly took her role as 'Spider Girl' without addressing her issues with it.

Her hesitancy with her duties is subconsciously reflected in her actions and attitudes. For example her 'title' is Spider Girl, whereas most others have deviated from the name spiderman or spidergirl she half heartedly just went with whatever was practical. While the title is technically what she is, it doesn't really reflect her as a person. It was just something to fill in the gaps with no thought attached to it. Another example is her mask. Jia often prefers to have her mask off, primarily because there is this running joke of others calling her an orange because of her suit design. Another reason she insists is that it's suffocating underneath the mask both in a literal sense and a figurative sense as she wears the mask to be someone she doesn't want.

Majority of the time, Jia would be portrayed as this somewhat unserious but easy going character to others. She's relatively friendly and gets along well with most. What she keeps beneath her other qualities is her pessimistic leaning and 'realistic' outlook. Jia tends to take extra contexts and factors into perspective and would take the most realistic approach to things because that's the safest course of action, no matter how much it doesn't sit well with her heart.

Even Jia's location has links to uncertainty. Like I had said earlier, Jia was not born in China and since her parents had always been busy her connection with her nationality has always been a little strained. Being suddenly dumped to live with your grandma in a land you hardly know is bound to lead to uncertainty and ironically she ends up feeling disconnected to the very place she's supposed to protect.

In a way, Jia's character is a metaphor for growing up. Her story can almost be interpreted as a coming of age plot where she, a 19 year old girl, is put through the motions of life while she's left to deal with the uncertainty of the future. Suddenly she must carry a responsibility that she doesn't know how to handle and is unable to let anyone else know, both in a 'This is my secret identity' way and in a 'I'm emotionally constipated because I don't know how to communicate' way. Instead of healthily regulating her thoughts and emotions on the matter, she mentally blocks it away to focus on the much nicer things in life. In this sense, she could almost be seen as selfish or childish as she tries to almost cling onto the last remaining time of having a '-teen' in her age. This is reflected in her hairstyle choice, seeing that hair like hers are often associated with younger children, albeit she does this unintentionally/subconsciously.

Despite all, Jia still persists. Despite her being so uncertain on just about everything, she wholeheartedly believes that the city she lives in is something worth protecting. Despite her disconnectedness to her homeland, she loves it all the same within the two years of living there. There is still that 'spiderman' goodness within her that drives her to do what's right to protect her city as much as it drives her nuts, basing off the logic of "if I don't do it, then who will?".

why jia fell for hobie

In a sense, Hobie saves her. To Jia, Hobie is someone who she never knew she would interact with, nevermind become attached to. They are different in so many ways that she never would've guessed they could even talk. However this perspective was only because she grew up in the typical society of norms and labelling of who's who. His views are so drastically different to what she is used to but she feels almost an affinity for the values behind them. Through their time of being together, his way of doing things influences her in many ways. His own commitment to his beliefs essentially acted as a foundation for her to begin solidifying her own decisiveness on her actions both as a person and being a spiderperson. More importantly, it's the way he's against rules and systems. While Jia isn't a stickler for rules, her outlook on life is realistic like I said before. Jia knows that they are from different universes and that realistically, they can never have their ending together. However, for obvious reasons, he doesn't give a damn for what is or isn't possible. His 'organized chaos' brings almost a solace in Jia as she can rely on him to stay true to himself.

their relationship in more detail

Jia is romantically constipated as hell. That's pretty much her in a nutshell. Growing up with semi absent parents will make it hard for you to ask or communicate. Miraculously, platonic friendships are totally fine for her but every becomes awkward for her on a romantic scale. During their friendship arc, Jia found herself finding much comfort in his presence because he was always so easy to talk to. She knew at one point that she liked him but nearly cast it aside because she knew she could never have the courage to do anything about it. In fact just thinking about how she would have to probably ask him out officially and confess made her shrivel at the idea. Or that's what the 'normal' way of asking out was. Luckily for her, he doesn't follow. He never made it a special occasion or anything and it was completely on an ordinary hangout between themselves where he just dropped a 'I like you' which made her brain explode but she appreciated it so much afterwards that he never made a big deal out of it all.

If she was in a relationship with anyone else, her s/o most likely would've become highly frustrated with Jia as she's not one to initiate dates, affection, gifts or any of the traditional romantic gestures because she's just so out of touch with what to do. Hobie has no expectations for such and much prefers spending time together without it needing a special reason. The affections and actions are much more mundane between them to a point where it's not meant to show others but more towards simply being comfortable with each other. It's the simple things that matter more for them like the feeling of warm skin to remind themselves that they are alive after a bad patrol or quick kiss pressed to the cheek for no reason other than the emotion threatening to spill in their chest when they look at the other.

why he ended up liking her

This is all mostly based on my own headcanon of him where he has a preference for simplicity because of the chaos in his universe. Jia is a simple girl. She's the kind of person who really enjoys the simple things in life as a way to forget about her uncertainty. If she was a colour she'd be a pale light yellow, someone who's vaguely joyful and bright but not in a straining way. Besides the bare minimums of being a good person, Jia is a really good listener. While he doesn't essentially force his views on anyone (literally defeats his purpose), he does offer his opinion on a lot of things in a straightforward manner. Jia always listens wholeheartedly and engages actively instead of just brushing him off. While she doesn't completely turn her life upside down to follow him in his ideals because y'know it's hard to change a lifestyle you've lived all your life, she does take small things into consideration in her life after hearing him talk or tagging along for things that he believes is important. It's something he appreciates about her for. He finds himself at ease around Jia and even more so in private where he sticks so, so close to her. I wholeheartedly believe he is a gentle guy but not the traditional sense where he's all smiles or something you usually associate with that but in a way where affections are nearly always soft and meaningful. Prior to Jia, his lifestyle never exactly allowed this kind of mundane comfort that she brings. The warmth of someone else's skin in his hands is something he seriously loves and often grounds his loud brain. Love languages between them is prominently quality time, physical touch and acts of service. He shows care through actions rather than proclamations. Although soft moments are only reserved for behind doors and mostly occasional as 98% of the time he's this annoyingly infuriating loveable bastard rat of a man.

Why they cannot end up together (until the very end)

While it's not established within the relationship, as the creator I see a 'power' dynamic between them. While Hobie saves Jia, she doesn't save him in the way he does. From the creator's perspective, Jia needs him far more than he needs her in a sense which creates an imbalance. This is why the modern au is their true happy ending where Jia doesn't have to face the heavy burden of her uncertainty and both don't need to bear the responsibility of the world upon their shoulders. In a world where instead of night patrols, nights could be spent for spontaneous midnight snack runs or a world where instead of worrying about how to protect their city and loved ones for another day, all they needed to worry about was grocery lists and folding laundry.

The both of them aren't overly popular but they have some form of reputation to their name cause for jia some of her stupid clips have gone viral (she does mostly gamer content 🎮💪🔥) where it's either her being real bad at the game or she's getting jumpscared and for hobie his content is a lot moreeee diverse I think, and he also streams a lot less than jia does cause it's just a side thing for him but some of his clips have gone viral for either music related reasons or it's something he's said (HES FUNNY IN A WAY YOU WOULDNT EXPECT KIND OF THING)

but I had this thought where it'd be kind of funny when he's streaming one day (one night tbh they both stream more at night) but he'd be on stream maybe playing his lil guitar and people just casually talking in the chat and suddenly they see the user 'oranjia' send a 'ALSMFNKS' and 'OWJDNJW' in the chat so ofc people who recognise her are all like ARIANA WHAT ARE U DOING HEREE and she gets clipped cause they're kind of two different streamers you'd never see interact

And so one day he'd probably take a route thru the chinatown and spot her again in the big ass billboard and tbh idfk what happens next cause it's mostly just one sided pining bc he doesn't get to meet her for a good while till he bumps into her again 🤷🤷❓❓❓

Might update these as I go but these are all I have so far

- post getting together jia listens to london boy religiously whenever she misses him

- jia is kind of communicatively constipated in terms of dating ie if she wants to hug she doesn't know how to ask so she kinda just stares him down but I have this hc where hobie is stupidly good at reading ppl so he gets it anyways (with some difficulty bc he doesn't understand right away but knows she wants smth) but he gets used to it over time HHHAHSNRRGKKKGJ

- he definitely does that thing when they hold hands and he puts it into his jacket pocket AARRGGGGHHHH

- she listens to mostly everything music wise but her genre is like leaning towards pop so sometimes he makes fun of her for it

- they're both flexible but jia is significantly more flexible

- jia has BBBAAADDDD mood swings during period but hb is pretty well versed in what to do (don't ask how he just knows) so he's pretty accommodating when her emotions are out of wack

- hb loves simple intimacy like skin to skin contact like not even in a sexual way but it's where it could just be like a hand on her neck or when she's in looser clothes he'd just hold her waist under her shirt to feel the warm skin there. there's smth about the feeling of warmness under his hand that grounds him (tears are pouring out my eyes rn)

She looks at him as if he's the sunrise or the stars. (Sees him as something so breathtaking, compared to natural beauty in the world ie sunset and stars.) Eyes bright and in wonder. Wide to take everything in as if she's scared to lose him when she closes her eyes again.

H:

Looks at her as if she's the ocean or afternoon sun in a house. (Sees her as something comforting, compared to mundane intimacy.) Eyes soft and relaxed. - he does this thing where he like leaves guitar picks in strategic yet not strategic places around her apartment like he'd either put it in plain sight or hide it and he does it bc One. He comes over alot anyways so he might as well cause you KNOW he's bringing his guitar everywhere so it'd probably be them sitting on her couch and he'll just pull a pick out from under her lamp??? Doesn't help that he doesn't shush either in his sleep snoring, mumbling the whole package 😭😭 IT IS ROUGH TO SLEEP IN THE SAME ROOM AS HIM

It's literally a miraculous event every time jia manages to sleep in his presence cause she probably gotten used to it at some point (that human survival adaptation coming in clutch, u either sleep or u don't EVER)

Although occasionally he gets a little too much and his restlessness ends up knocking the wind outta her and she sits up like HEUOH 😨

also sleeps like a log so if she's stuck under him she's just gonna have to live with it

On milder days tho she sometimes watches him sleep (definitely not strange) and likes to mess around w his face cause he won't wake up 🔥 also in those moments would find the mumbling a little cute but it's cut short when she tries to go to sleep and he rolls over onto her again (shes so sick of it)

SOMETIMES she ends up on the floor too HAVDHE not bc he shoved her off but somehow she just ends up on the floor w half the blankets under her somehow but thing abt hobie is that he won't wake up ever BUT if she's missing SOMEHOW he'd sit up and be like ❓❓
