Now, it wasn't as if this night had to go perfectly. Louis was well aware that realistically it wouldn't and it shouldn't. Perfect made for boring. And that wasn't them. They were goofy and sassy and sometimes downright fucking clumsy. And he loved that about the two of them together. So he didn't have a heart attack when it started to pour on the way to the theatre and he had to use jacket to keep her from getting soaked. There was zero panic when they were late or so chilly they slipped into the bathroom together to dry off with the hand dryers. Nope, not even the ticket guy almost refusing their rain stained tickets shook his unyielding belief that this was in fact, going to be an epic "first" date.
The universe was trying them, that was for fucking sure, but it was that imperfection that had Louis smiling, his fingers toying with hers, throughout the performance of Midsummer Night's Dream. It was a welcome escape, one he hadn't been sure of at first. He had limited knowledge of the plays that Dove enjoyed and this one felt almost a little cliche. But it was kinda a means to an end anyway so if she did hate it, he hoped dinner would redeem that.
That and well, the beaming greeting delivered by the one and only Max as soon as they slipped back into the lobby. She-- wasn't rude. Not exactly. Curious. Blunt. But not rude as she casually brought up their night in her hot tub, how up until that very moment she'd never seen Louie with a girl, let alone introduced her, and you know the fan favorite, be gentle, he's fragile nonsense. It was all in good fun, he knew that. This was what? Years of pent up embarrass your little brother in front of a girl he likes vibes. But he smiled and laughed and quipped back, just holding out for the moment Max wandered off and he had Dove alone.
The lobby was just about empty when he smirked, dipping down to give her a kiss before his hands slipped over her eyes. "Alright, you gotta trust me now. Slow steps," he said turning her in his arms to guide her back to the double doors. It was slow going, mostly to build anticipation as they reentered. The was soft music playing, the melody light like the dance of fireflies and the lighting was dim, colored with the exact tint and warmth to evoke the feeling of drifting away to another realm. The stage was still set, the only change being a table that looked just as much like a tree stump as it did a table and chairs. Dinner was set. Nothing extravagant, some take out a door dasher delivered from down the street. But eh, not everything had to be perfect.
He hummed, the two of them still in the aisle, head tilting as he found the right view. "Alright, keep in mind. I'm extra. So-- if you know, it freaks you out a bit, you can say so. Also if you love it and think i'm entitled to a "fuck yeah, you're amazing and i can't get enough of you" fool around sesh later, you can tell me that too," He was teasing, it was obvious by his laugh, but there were some butterflies skirting around obnoxiously in his gut. At the idea that all of this might really be too much. He took a little breath, reminding himself this was good. Epic. And he moved his hands, watching her as her eyes flickered open and he gestured out to the stage, "Tah dah-- dinner is served your majesty. What do you think?"
