Day 4: #mayvinylchallenge: Love/Death/Robots/Space Party people in the place to be!  It's your boy, Captain Chris, representing Lollipop Man (alias, The Long-Haired Sucka) bringing you the ultimate SPACE with Parliament's 1977 classic, "Funkentelechy vs. The Placebo Syndrome" When George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic decided to take their vocal-based group in an intergalactic direction, the floodgates opened for major records, major tours, major band lineups and major problems (that's another post).  And within the mythos of the band itself, major characters.  From the introductions of Lollipop Man and Starchild on "Mothership Connection" and "The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein" introducing the all-famous titular character, the stage was set for the next record to deliver another.  The Funkentelechy album introduces Parliament's arch-nemesis, Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk, a character to vows to never dance or give up the funk.  Thanks to the Dr., he equips Starchild with his latest invention, the Bop Gun.  With a blast from it's Flash Light, it renders Sir Nose helpless to the funk.  He has no choice but to get down (indicated by the album artwork). Reading like a funky Sci Fi comic, the album actually came with a comic book and a full-sized poster of a cartoon Sir Nose.  There was even an animated commercial for the album (check it out on YouTube).  This particular copy of the album has George Clinton's signature, acquired when he spoke at my school in 2004 (at least that's what my friend who took the record back to him after the Q and A said...). There's a lot of space-themed music out there.  But when you mix campy superheroes with space and an underlying message of freedom from the restrictions of society...you can't beat that with a rocket. Living in the presence of your future... You deserve a break today... Have it your way.
