Part 21 of An Exercise in Patience

Squalo finally manages to meet their little omega (properly) the day the shop opens. It is a financial success, Sawada is out of lunches between the first few hours. But this somehow unexpected success means the younger Sky is glaring suspiciously at their alpha. "Did you tell them to buy from me?"

Xanxus shakes his head. "I promised not to."

Before it can devolve into a fight, Squalo huffs. "Voi, it wasn't him in charge of dealing with your shop, it was me." 

Sawada eyes him distrustfully. "Did you?"

"No." Squalo rolls his eyes, ignoring the crossed arms and disapproving stare. "They're curious and lazy. And the food is nice." Squalo may or may not have bought a few of them himself. 

"Nice?" Sawada blows up his cheeks. "What do you guys eat on a daily basis?" 

"Take out." Squalo isn't ashamed to admit it. Lussuria doesn't have the time to cook daily and the rest of them wouldn't know what to do in a kitchen. 

The omega looks mildly horrified by the knowledge, however. "I thought you had at least one good meal a day." 

"Now we do," Belphegor shrugs, inspecting his own container for any crumbs he can eat. "Are you making the same dessert tomorrow?"

Sawada groans in exasperation, throwing his hands up in the air. "Healthy meals from now on! Healthy!" 

Xanxus blinks, eyeing the omega cautiously. "Does that mean no more cookies?" 

"No." Sawada waves him away, reaching for his notebook so he can start plotting. "It means we need more balanced meals. That's what it means. Where's Luss? We need to go to the market for tomorrow."

Squalo doesn't tell him that he could reopen the shop in a few hours and get the same results. Lussuria is too delighted by the possibilities of this to bother. Xanxus sighs, watching them plot. "Now he's going to be up late tonight." 

"I'd care about your whining, shitty boss. Except you've been eating food like this for free. For months now." Squalo snorts. "Would it have killed you to save us some?"

The shitty boss looks like he couldn't give less of a shit. "And what? Go hungry?" 

"VOI!" He quiets down a little when Sawada startles. "See if I take care of your paperwork from now on, huh."

Xanxus yawns lazily. "You gonna explain to Sawada why I'm late each night?" The omega made it clear there is not to be any Vongola related anything inside his den. 

Squalo rolls his eyes. "He said nothing about Varia paperwork, did he?"

"Fuck off." The alpha freezes for a second before glaring up at his Second. "I don't do paper pushing." 

"You might, from now on." 

Sawada frowns when he reaches them, sitting down by Xanxus's side. "Alright?"

The alpha hums, pulling the omega closer. "We're fine."

But Squalo snorts. "The boss has been leaving me his paperwork," he informs Sawada.

"Xanxus!" Sawada hisses. "That's lazy."
