Happiness was an elusive beast as far as Luz Desai was concerned, particularly on a day like today. It had been well over 10 years since a freak accident fire took her little sister’s life, but Leya’s birthday was a solemn day for Luz even now. On this occasion, she sought to bury her feelings of sadness and anger in work. It was more cost-effective than therapy, she figured. She was relieved almost when the fire bell sounded; she was already poised for action, seated in the truck in anticipation of a call. She quietly toyed the pendant of her necklace, a sweet sixteen gift from Leya that she never took off, as the truck barreled down the street toward North End. She pulled on her turnout pants and coat and was first out of the truck when they arrived at the scene of what she’d been informed was a small electrical fire. “Got it.” It was a warning as much as anything for the other guys to fall back and let her handle this one; her own personal score to settle that wouldn’t really settle anything. She took the stairs up to the apartment indicated and spotted a man who she presumed was the inhabitant in the hall. “Hey. Which room?”  she asked, pulling her gloves on. @elijah-parrish
