We were in Ikea today doing some home spring shopping, and that got me thinking of looking for ways to involve our kids in our daily shopping experiences and promote early literacy 📚🙌. So here is some info I found, read below ⬇️⬇️⬇️ * 📚Shopping your Way with Words. * 🌟Use your weekly shopping trip(s) as an opportunity to help your child develop reading and writing skills. * 🌟This activity can easily be adapted for young children by using pictures of the items you need. * 📚What you'll need: 🌟Paper and pencils. 🌟Newspaper ads. 🌟Supermarket coupons, and/or, pictures of items. * 📚What to do: 🌟As you make out your grocery shopping list, give your child a sheet of paper and read the items to him or her. 🌟If the child asks for spelling help, write the words correctly for him or her to copy or spell the words aloud as your child writes them. 🌟Ask your child to look through the newspaper ads to find the prices of as many items as possible. 🌟Your child can write these prices on the list and then look through your coupons to select the ones you can use. 🌟Take your child to the supermarket and ask him or her to read each item to you as you shop. * 🌟This can easily be adapted for young children, by cutting pictures out of what you need to buy(making a visual shopping list), and showing him/her at the store, getting him/her to reach out to grab the item on your list, with a little help of course. * 🌟Source: http://www.readingrockets.org/article/25-activities-reading-and-writing-fun * #toddler#toddlermom#parentinglife#kidsandliteracy#makingreadingfun#toddlerandlitetacy#toddlereverydayliteracyactivities#kidsandliteracyactivities#kidseverydayreadingactivities#makingreadingeasy#makingreadingsimple
