ngl I understand a lot of the critique around Love, Simon but I really have never felt like it was an inauthentic representation of the queer experience? like the scene where Simon breaks down after being outed to his entire school against his will legit brought me to tears, that was such a brutal and honest portrayal of how horrible it is to have the choice of when and how to come out taken away from you, idk how anyone could watch that and be like "yeah obviously no one working on this had any idea what it's like to be queer"

#love simon isn't perfect #but idk it kinda reminds me of a lot of the critique I've seen from non-asian people of crazy rich asians #who seem to take issue with the whole rich part or say the movie has no plot or whatever #it's a cinderella style story it doesn't have to be realistic #and we don't have to hold stories about marginalized people up to this impossible standard #marginalized people should be allowed to have fluffy rom-coms and cinderella style stories just like cishet white people do #like idk not to go off about crazy rich asians but I can't stand when I see other white people say it was boring or whatever #like have you considered this film is perhaps not for us?#also I would question their media literacy the movie HAS a plot and themes and shit like???#tf are you talking about #we got ever after and disney's cinderella and a bazillion other movies where cute lower class women get to marry rich men #critique one of those #you only bringing it up NOW makes me think it's not the rags to riches story you actually have a problem with
