The Lament of Maria

My submission for the Reflection DGM Fanzine 🌟

I've always wanted to do a piece with Maria and Cross; especially one that would reflect the duality of their codependent relationship. Is her hold a protective one, or is she seeking to devour him? At least that’s what I was aiming for when I composed the illustration haha.

Frankly, I also really wanted to draw Cross' hair details so, so much so-- I had my fill here 👁👁❤️ I do wish I had more time to render and go into even more detail, but I'll save that for future illustrations hehe.

Cross: Man... this kid has been through so much trauma. I certainly haven't helped with it. I've grown to see him as like my own son. It'll be a shame when he vanishes... But- it'd also be really funny to have Nea pay off all my debts so on top of throwing the kid into the same stressful war I know more than anyone else in, I'm going to give him all of my debts too. Psh! It'll... It'll be funny when Nea... has to pay off... on my debts. I'd be doing the Order a favor- HA HA HA!!!

After Allen joins the order

Reever: Allen- we are really.... really concerned about you.

Allen: *cheating at cards* What're you talking about? *working a second job* I'm perfectly fine. Sure, *does clown tricks in the street* I have a lot of debt to pay and a lot of burdening trauma with the now threatening knowledge that I might lose myself to a Noah that was associated with one of my idols. But I'm perfectly fine. Say- do think people would pay to see me strip?

Johnny: Allen, please stop. You shouldn't have to carry all these burdens by yourself.

Allen: I mean- I'm sure it'll be okay. I'd be a lot more ok IF I DIDN'T HAVE SO MUCH DEBT TO WORRY ABOUT!!! HOW IS THERE EVEN MORE NOW?! I miss my master- BUT I STILL HATE HIM!!! AAAAAAAH!!!!

Cross: Heh heh... I can't wait to see Nea's reaction lol.
