Uxmal Maya Site ( Mexico )

Cabeza de estuco de Palenque, Chiapas, México. Podría ser una representación de K’ihnich Kan Bahlam, hijo de la señora Tz’akbu Ajaw y de K’ihnich Janaab’ Pakal (Pakal el Grande). Fue encontrada en el templo XIV de Palenque. Actualmente se exhibe en el museo de sitio de esa ciudad. K’ihnich Kan Bahlam gobernó Palenque de 684 a 702 dne. Fue uno de los escritores más prolíficos de esa ciudad maya. Sus textos registran un manejo destacado de la aritmética maya en cuentas calendáricas. 

Desde 2007, da nombre (como Kan Balam) a uno de los clústers de cómputo más importantes de América Latina, con sede en la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

ARCHAEOLOGY Discovering the World’s Secrets - The collapse of the Maya. Excavations of the site of Cuello in northern Belize by Norman Hammond provide a fascinating insight into the emergence of this civilization. Maize husks discovered at the site have shown how the staple crop was responsible for a population explosion of the Maya. Both the size of the maize cob and the yields of maize steadily increased between 1000 BCE and 200 CE.
