Ok so i just saw your theory about Lotor being part Altean, and I was like hmmm this is intriguing. Here's a theory I've been working on. We never see Allura's mom. Here's my theory. What if Allura's mom left when Allura was young and joined the Galra and secretly became a couple with Zarkon without any Altean speculation? And they had a child (Lotor)? When Zarkon turned against Alteans, maybe she protested, and Zarkon killed her and used her dna for experimenting? What do you think?
okay, so i’ve been stewing this over in my mind for a little while now, and have some thoughts on each element for you. sorry if i get a little crazy voltron conspiracy theory down there hahaha 😅
i think there is no denying that something sketchy went on with Alluras mom. if i remember correctly, she’s only been mentioned once, at the beginning of ‘Crystal Venom’, and she’s only mentioned in passing while Allura reminisces. Even weirder, after bringing her up, Allura goes on to mention that she misses her planet, and her father. but not her mother. But we know from the story that Allura’s mother was at least alive long enough for Allura to have memories of her.

^fishy lack of mother mentioning now hmmmm
If she doesn’t miss her, i can only really assume that she either died when Allura was younger, and she has made peace with it, or her mother did something that caused conflict with Allura strong enough that she wouldn’t even miss her. Cheating on Alfor and abandoning their family for the man that would go on to betray the entire universe and (possibly) destroy Altea. That sounds like the kind of thing that could get you kicked off the “great things i miss about home” list.
But if they didn’t know, and Zarkon killed her? Well, it wouldn’t really explain why Allura never speaks of her, unless the memories are too painful. But having her mother die personally at Zarkon’s hand would drive his betrayal of her father in even harder. it could help to explain why her hatred of the Galra is so strong, why she was so skeptical of the blade. Even when Coran, who likely stayed and saw more of the war than Allura ever had to before he entered his cryopod, was willing to accept their help after Ulaz sacrificed himself. Allura wasn’t just skeptical of the blade, she was didn’t seem to even want to trust them, she was angry and seemed content to stay that way. a betrayal as personal as that could shed some light on the severity of her emotions.
The idea of Lotor and Allura being half-siblings is really interesting to me. I’m generally of the thought that Lotor was Haggar’s child, but sharing a mother with Allura would bring in a lot of room for developing Allura as a character. We could see her passionate hatred for the Galra and determination to take down the rest of Zarkons empire clash harshly with her homesickness and love for her lost family.
Imagine, your entire planet has been destroyed, all of your people, your family, everyone you held dear was ripped from you as you’re cast 10,000 years away from everything that’s familiar. You and Coran are the last of your kind, and you were their queen. the weight of your whole lost species, your lost planet, rest heavily on your shoulders. You’re not even 20 carrying all this guilt and grief and on top of all of this, you have to slide into a role of strength and leadership for a bunch of strangers before you even have any time to grieve because the future of the entire universe decided it quite liked the slope of your shoulders as a comfortable place to drop all its weight. And then someone appears. Someone who shares your blood, a sibling of all things, waltzes into your life. You’re feeling alone and desperately out of place and suddenly you’re not half as alone as you thought you were. Just think back to how affected Allura was to learn that Haggar was Altean

finding another Altean, especially after her new little paladin family has been rocked to its core by Shiros disappearance, that would be major to her. And he’s on the other side. He’s galra. Allura couldn’t bring herself to trust Galra who were actively working on her side, and then there would be Lotor, her own flesh and blood, who is the figurehead of everything she’s fighting against. It would rip her apart. Push right through her air of confidence and grim resolve to shake her to her core, and we could finally see more of what Allura is really made of.
I don’t know exactly what Zarkon would be doing with Altean DNA, but i’m sure Haggar, with her apparent love of experimentation, wouldn’t mind getting her hands on something like that. As we’ve learned, the Alteans seem to have an interesting relationship with quintessence, especially Allura. The Altean’s perform those energy rejuvenation ceremonies with the balmera, which i’m assuming has something to do with quintessence. And as we found out in Black Out, Allura can manipulate quintessence, adding that to the list of cool basically magic things Allura can do. I’m going to go out on a limb and say these things are at least partially passed down the royal line, so having Allura’s mother at her disposal to study would likely interest her. I’m not too sure about this as Hagar seemed just as shocked as the rest of us when Allura discovered her powers, but it’s interesting to think about nonetheless

On a less angsty note, could also give an open if the writers are considering a redemption ark for Lotor.All-in-all, i think its an interesting theory that could play out with some really cool character development for our lovely space-zelda here. This was really fun to think about, so thanks for the ask! I love talking theory with you guys :)
