I mean

1) yes, i did exactly that, look up mcoding and creel on YouTube for a few of my favourites, as well as computerphile for less coding and more general compsci topics

2) I also just did the coding myself. I learned C, played around with the Euler Project problems as well as some of the competition sites. Got heavily nerd sniped a few times, in particular solving a problem for my M.A.Sc. advisor for measuring roughness of image data at various scales, and a dice problem @triviallytrue tossed out; working out both solutions was a lot of fun, and I'm proud of them.

gcode and mcode دورة ، في قلب عالم التصنيع باستخدام الحاسوب (CNC)، تكمن لغة دقيقة وموحدة توجه الآلات لتنفيذ مهام معقدة بدقة وكفاءة عالية. هذه اللغة تتألف بشكل أساسي من مجموعتين من الأوامر: أكواد G (G-codes) وأكواد M (M-codes). تعتبر هاتان المجموعتان بمثابة الدماغ والأعصاب للنظام، حيث تحدد أكواد G "ماذا تفعل" الآلة من حيث الحركة والمسار، بينما تحدد أكواد M "كيف تفعل" ذلك من خلال التحكم في الوظائف المساعدة.

Thanks to this Anon: https://the-bjd-community-confess.tumblr.com/post/683888174456602624/ive-heard-about-the-controversial-new-hjd-doll , I decided to look into Dream Fairy Dolls. It got me thinking… and thinking and thinking. You might say I’ve fallen into a bit of a rabbit hole.

Starting with Dream Fairy. It’s a line of HJD created by a manufacturer named DeBeShen (or DBS).  DBS bills itself as a toy manufacturer since its inception in 2000. They specialize in playline dolls with hinged joints made with mostly ABS. It wasn’t until 2016 that they created their own line of dolls instead of just manufacturing for others. To date, they have 5 main lines of dolls that they call their own: Oriental Charm (35mm fullsets, based on famous historical figures), Dream Fairy (divided into “SD” - 60cm, Little angel - 28cm, Pocket girls – 16cm and Dudu - 14 cm), MM Girls (45 cm), Meatballs/Quiet Balls (about 8-10cm), Diary Queens (30cm) and special editions. The best way is to think of them as Barbies – hinge-jointed dolls with one sculpt per line. The difference between each doll is the concept behind the fullsets. Dream fairies usually go with a vaguely fantasy theme while MM girls go with Zodiac/Tarot themes. Each doll comes pre-painted and already dressed. The hair is rooted and the eyes are fixed in place. Special editions are special because their full sets are limited.

The “Controversy” with Dream Fairy (indeed, with DBS in general) is that the master head sculpt of each line was copied/recasted from pre-existing BJDs. The Dream Fairy line got their heads from AE Liu Ru Shi. The Dudu line apparently got their heads from Secret Doll’s Mong.

DBS Dudu “Angry Dudu – Grape”: https://www.fd-toys.com/displayproduct.html?id=3396068817589569 DBS bills itself as a legitimate and growing company that’s trying to promote their own line of dolls. The Oriental line tries to be very historically-accurate, too. However, it does have a sketchy history that it cannot fully live down. Even in the Chinese doll community, there are discussions (debates?) about the legitimacy of DBS’s dolls. Some people think HJDs should not be compared to BJDs – therefore DBS dolls aren’t technically recasts. Some folks believe that as long as something is copied from somewhere else, it should be considered a counterfeit regardless of material. Some folks argue that since they are made of a different material, it would be like comparing an imitation to an original (like a plaster cast of the Statue of David you’d buy at a souvenir shop vs the real thing). Some folks have also pointed out that anti-recast artists may not take on new faceups of a DBS doll. It seems to me that for every 10 people, there are at least 12 different opinions on DBS’s dolls. At the end of the day, I suppose the only way to voice your opinion in a meaningful way is to put your money where your mouth is. If you do not agree with this company’s choices, do not engage and don’t buy. If you think it’s no big deal and it’s a way to get a foot into non-resin BJDs, then by all means, go for it. You make your stance with your wallet.
