are their diagnoses formal ( via a doctor, therapist, etc. ) or informal ( self diagnosis, a hunch, unrealized, etc. )     all except ASD is formally diagnosed.  she realized her autistic symptoms while doing a basic psychological course on the compound.
have they ever been treated / medicated?     there was no treatment in captivity, afterwards she eventually procured anti-psychotics from a black market doctor.  she also was gifted a service dog to help manage her symptoms.  she avoids further official treatment until tantalus is on trial, then she slowly begins therapy. 
have they ever been hospitalized or treated on an inpatient basis?   no,  it would be next to impossible to get her inside a hospital with her consent. 
how old were they when they first started experiencing / realizing symptoms?   her autistic symptoms were always present and she was at least aware that she felt different from the other children.  the rest of her diagnosis did not manifest until her traumatic period from 18-31 years old.  she was very aware of her symptoms and why they were happening but there was nothing to do about it. 
do they have a family history of mental illness?   not that she is aware of. 
how was mental health handled / discussed in the family / community?    in the orphanage there was awareness and attentiveness to do what they could to manage mental health.  magnolia flew under the radar because of how she presented  (  as many autistic girls do  ).  mental health was never painted poorly.  but there was only so much that could be done with their funding.  her guardian verita never discussed it at all.  and in her captivity,  it was very clinical and noted in an impersonal,  dehumanizing way.  shew as a test subject,  her symptoms were just data. 
what are their thoughts on mental health / their diagnosis?   she is unbothered by knowing she has ASD,  it’s just part of who she is.  she is a little ashamed and frustrated by her other diagnosis.  she doesn’t like talking about it and tries not to have to think about it as much as possible. 
in what ways has their diagnosis shaped their life or experiences?   understanding she’s autistic helped her feel less alienated and makes her better process her childhood.  she finds comfort in it and has no issue behaving the way that feels natural to her.  the way she thinks and approaches social situations is actually part of what helped her survive and adapt to her trauma.  it’s also what led to her selective mutism.  the other diagnosis as mentioned are more difficult.  she is a highly traumatized individual and it reflects in every aspect of her life, it coats every interaction and relationship.  she suffers from an overall instability in her life,  but grows restless and anxious if she stays inside the same environment for too long.  she has difficulty forming emotionally intimate connections where she is actually transparent with the other party.  her fixation with and idealization of death creates further difficulties.  she is very disassociated from her body and has crafted this idea of “brokenness” which makes her feel like her life is already over and she’s just waiting for it to actually end.  
SYMPTOMS: note that all of the below are, on their own, normative and typical aspects of human functioning. they become “symptoms” when they last longer than “normal” or when they pose a significant impact on someone’s life / functioning.

explanations / elaborations on any of the above symptoms:
while she doesn’t directly harm herself,  she can rush into situations where she might be hurt or in danger because she wants to feel fear.  she is very numbed to adrenaline rushes and has an intensely high pain threshold.  it makes her feel further dehumanized so at times she wants to seek out unsafe situations to try and get a thrill.  with the suicidal ideation she often contemplates her death.  she made one attempt when she was 19 in the second year of her captivity but when it failed she took it as a sign she wasn’t “allowed” by the universe to go out that way.  but many situations can still make her contemplate how she could indirectly end her life.  which all ties with the aforementioned risky behavior and compulsions.  those behaviors can also just be motivated or made more likely by her disassociations because she doesn’t quite feel *real* or really alive.

A modern-day branding Nostradamus
Given the case was written in 2002, I endeavored to make my predictions based solely through the lens of one in 2002 (that way I wouldn't benefit from hindsight).* However, the promise (or lack thereof) of each of these products is so readily apparent that I found this to be a simple ranking.
My ranking of the products in terms of future promise are as follows:
DigiScents iSmell
Sliced peanut butter
Silver-coated bandages
Satellite radio
DigiScents iSmell
This is the clear and obvious winner of the four products. My initial inclination was that all PC owners would have their own iSmell by the end of 2004, let alone 2024. However, I've since realized that iSmell will likely be limited by their production capacity. Given that, I think it's likely that it will take several years of ramp up before iSmell becomes ubiquitous. That said, it has everything going for it: PC purchases are undergoing a meteoric rise, people are looking for new sensory experiences without leaving their home, and the technology underlying the product appears to be very advanced. The marketing for the product is a slam-dunk; it even looks cool:

Sliced peanut butter
This the second (and final) can't-miss product on the list. Americans are living their lives on-the-go more than ever. This can be seen with the rise of the "mobile" phone (although I predict this is a trend that will die out in the coming years), the popularity of roller blades, and the increasing frequency of eating lunch at one's desk. While the interview with the sliced peanut butter creator really does say it all (who among us hasn't experienced the frustration of getting peanut butter all over oneself while simultaneously tearing the bread and losing the knife during a late-night PB&J creation?), it is worth reiterating just how revolutionary this product will be to the market. No longer will the average American need to carry around their jar of peanut butter in their back pocket along with their jar of emergency peanut butter in their fanny pack—adding bulk and anxiety regarding the dreaded "peanut butter blowout." Instead, they will be able to carry 10–15 PB slices, saving both space and time. This is particularly relevant in the post-9/11 world we live in, where it has become a piles of peanut butter jars overflowing out of trash bins near TSA security having been flagged as containing too much fluid have become a common sight.

Silver-coated bandages
We live in a society where everything has its place: silver is for jewelry and bandages are for the weak. While I am technically speaking not a "medical doctor," I did grow up in the same town as one. Thus, I know that most cuts and scrapes are best served not by some highfalutin silver antibacterial elixir, but by rubbing some dirt on them. I believe I represent most Americans when I say that this product will never take any hold on the market, unless they are able to rebrand: instead of being silver-coated bandages, they should become bandage-shaped jewelry. Provided the price point is correct ($400+), this could easily become a statement piece worn by those in the medical community.

While well-meaning, this endeavor is entirely misguided as it's premise is ridiculous. People do not want fewer ads or monthly payments. Research has shown that advertisements actually increase the enjoyment viewers feel when watching television (https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5131EU). Further, it is beyond absurd to think that consumers will pay a monthly fee to listen to music that they will not even own. The chart below demonstrates the dramatic rise in CD sales every year, clearly showing that Americans are not willing to pay merely to listen to music: they want to listen to free music with ads (traditional radio) and pay to own music in their homes (CD albums).
