You might not understand what a site change means. You might not understand how draining diabetes can be. People tell me "I couldnt poke my child" I dont get a choice. I've seen my son in a coma. If I dont poke him he will be back in that coma in less than 48 hours. A pump means less pokes, even if your child is 2 and rips his sites out making you replace them a lot. I pulled all of this out and set it up and said "come here Finn" he shook his head no and refused to come to me. My son refused to come see me because he knew I was going to hurt him. Then I laid him down and started prepping the site. He bicycle kicked me trying to avoid the poke. Because even though he gets it a lot it hurts him. And then when I finally got his legs pinned and the poke happened he yelled at me and whimpered and tried to pull the site out so I had to pin his arms. And when it was said and done no hugs for mom because mom hurt him. I cant feel bad in the moment because I'm literally saving his life with a poke. But if I told you afterwards my heart wasnt broken I'd be lying. #diabetes is a bitch. After 23:44:15 hours I completed my second 100 miler. It was an amazing adventure, many thanks to the crew, pacers, volunteers and friends that helped me complete this event. Sugars were a challenge for most part this time. I had to really push during the last two 12.5 loops to meet the under 24 hours goal. 👋 Well, I thought it was time to say hello here - as you may know, I never post pictures of myself! I've always been a rebel 😎 So, I was diagnosed 24 years ago (almost 25) when I was 14 years old. By the way, I had a motorcycle accident which lead to my diagnosis after one week spent at my local hospital 🏥 I'm extremely lucky and I recently got my second insulin pump (#medtronic670g). I have been using #freestylelibre sensors for almost six years now which means I have spent many hours with the customer service (specifically the first two years). I've tried to do a DIY loop and I've failed - I will get there soon... I have used almost all the pens, insulins and blood glucose monitors in my reach. After many years, I discovered that a low carb diet is the best for me. That means, goodbye to rice, pasta, pizza and all those delicious dishes which sometimes I crave with all my heart (gnocchi!!). My frozen shoulder is killing me since the beginning of this year and I have not been able to exercise - impacting my blood sugars badly. I was a sweetener junkie. I have a master of fine arts and a BA in graphic design. Coffee drinking, cheese eater who likes plants. I love painting 🎨 I can also be found reading about diabetes tech and medical aesthetics. I'm very interested in screens and interfaces (yes, I would like to design the interface of an insulin pump!). Diabetes NGO day worker and when the moon comes out I become @thediabeticsurivor. I believe good design can help us all with diabetes to have better lives. Go to change Finns diaper and saw blood. Finn pulled out his site, not sure of when. We've had a high most of the day I've been correcting a lot and didnt notice it off when he was napping on me an hour ago so I'm wondering if it just happened. So I did a bolus via needle and I'll be changing his site after a bath. I'm tired of diabetes today and I'd really like a fucking break. Yesterday we did a new dexcom sensor and a new site. So to do another site so early suuuuuuuuuucks.
