Ornendil vs Meril

Ornendil:

The elder son of Eldacar, twenty-first King of Gondor. He was captured and put to death during the Usurpation of Castamir.

HE DID NOTHING WRONG AND CASTAMIR KILLED HIM AND THEN HIS FATHER AVENGED HIM. JUSTICE FOR ORNENDIL.

Meril:

The wife of Finrod and mother of Gil-galad in one early draft of the legendarium.

I mean honestly, this woman lost everything.  She lost her son to Fingon, she lost her husband to Amarie, she lost her name to subsequent revisions, does she have to lose a obscure blorbo poll, too??

An extremely underexplored concept in the silm fandom concerning who Gil-Galad's dad is doesn't actually have anything to do with his dad at all, but his mom.

Like, where are all the Gil's mom oc's? You can at least acknowledge the one version where Gil's mom was actually named, her name being Meril. And yet I find practically nothing.

Gil-Galad deserves to know for a surety of who at least one of his parents is, and amidst all the crack theories of Gil-Galad's 5+ dads, who better than his own, one mother? At least let him be close to his mom!

Like, Gil-Galad may or may not know who his father is, but he does know that he is the son of his mother, who he loves and takes after the most in terms of personality and character and he's gonna make sure everybody knows that. He's a momma's boy through and through and he's gonna make it everyone's problem.

Maedhros as Meril

Some weeks ago, I came across that idea by reading @captainadwen 's crack fic and I must say, I really really love that idea!

And, as with any good idea it's now stuck in my head, so I finally caved in and drew Maedhros-as-Meril (in class, obviously...)

4 allies to the Red Crown. Each one with their own backstory and lore. But which one do you guys want to know about? The anxious light house keeper Meril? The goofy assistant healer Sozo? The ghost pirate Plimbo of Anchordeep? Or the secret treasure guardian Midas. Whatever character you choose will have a comic made to reveal their backstory.

The poll won’t have an end date. I have no idea when it will end. But since it will only last a week I’ll just make another poll and write down the votes on the poll. So take your time everyone! Without further ado…

Meril blinked then scowled. “Did you just call me grumpy?”

Fingon reached out to push the corners of her mouth into a smile. It looked unnatural on her otherwise very serious face, but he was unbothered. “Yes. Yes I did. Because it’s true. You’re small and you’re grumpy,” he answered cheerfully.

She leaned back, away from his hands, scowling harder. “We can’t all be tall, happy bastards.”

“It’s true,” he agreed. “I make it look too easy.”

Her scowl flattened into a flat, unamused stare as she rose to her feet in one fluid motion, took the tray of small cakes, before finally turning on her heel and walking away.

“Meeeeeeriiil!” he cried as he scrambled after her. “Those are my favorite!”
