backstreet's back alright
saving yukiko part 2
i do not have a ton to say about this part, but it's been a while so maybe it's better to ease into this anyway. i did get this dialogue the morning of the dungeon run:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's cute how he opens up so readily and easily to souji. i'm not even saying that with the ship goggles on! they are genuinely really cute friends and it's so sweet how yosuke trusts souji even this early on.
[puts the ship goggles back on] anyway,
the only thing of note that happens before the fight is that yosuke is the one to tell yukiko not to say the thing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after the fight, yosuke is the first one to try and comfort yukiko, before chie steps in to have her emotional moment with her girlfriend best friend. having had a little practice already with chie, yosuke has gotten a little more adept at saying the right thing here. i've said it before, but he's an empathetic guy. he feels for and cares about yukiko.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
teddie has tried to explain what he knows, but he doesn't quite know how to communicate the foreign concepts of the shadow world to these human teenagers. here's where yosuke starts to get it, though. he's the first one to really start to understand, even though his wording is a bit hesitant because he's not 100% sure here.
i have said it before and i will say it again: yosuke is not stupid. he's emotionally stunted at times, puts his foot in his mouth constantly, and isn't academically talented, but he's not stupid. he grasps most of the concepts of the shadow world faster than anyone else, and before naoto shows up, he's straight up the smartest guy in the room most of the time. i mean, personally, i think souji is academically talented and can ace most schoolwork no problem. he's not emotionally dense either. even so, yosuke is the one to put things together first in the early game, which makes sense from a gameplay standpoint (easier to have characters posit answers than make the player guess every time), but is still an intriguing character choice.
like, i've known people who mock the idea that he's the "brains of the IT", which i think is introduced as a concept in arena. and sure, he's not as brilliant as naoto, but he's the IDEAS MAN. he IS the brains before naoto arrives.

On Yosuke's Homophobia, and Why I Think It Fits The Narrative
so i've talked before a bit about yosuke's feelings and motivations, and i've mentioned before that i downloaded the version of the mod that didn't include the camp scene changes. i want to explain why that is. i also want to cover how i think golden butchered some of yosuke's character.
all scenes mentioned will be dived into deeper when i get to them in the playthrough!
part i: yosuke is closeted
yosuke has a romance route. not just the lovely mod i will be covering on this blog, but code hardwired into the vanilla game that, while incomplete, paints a stark picture of the original intentions of his character. you see, in yosuke's romance route, he was supposed to come to grips with the fact that he's in love with souji, and to quote him directly, he "didn't realize [he] had such heat inside". i think this line is really important because it establishes that he didn't KNOW he could feel this way, so strongly, so powerfully.
i also think he didn't know he could love men at all. i think souji was supposed to open his eyes in this cut romance route, and i think, if we could see even a fraction of the dialogue and choices originally planned for these scenes, it would go far in portraying yosuke as someone who behaved poorly because he was afraid. not of kanji being untoward, but of being gay himself.
why is this? personally, i headcanon a bigoted father in his life, but we don't even need to go that far. think about it: he's a seventeen-year-old in the year 2011, in japan. he's not exactly living in an extremely understanding time or society. add in that he is queer and confused about it, and you have a perfect storm of potential bigotry to defend himself from his own feelings.
part ii: the narrative purpose of yosuke's homophobia
a lot of people claim yosuke's homophobia is a pointless addition to the story. i think in certain parts it's way more aggressive than ever called for, but that doesn't mean it serves no purpose. in fact, i think it serves a vital purpose: demonstrating how far he's willing to go to distance himself from something he's afraid of.
in vanilla persona 4, yosuke's most egregious bigotry is during the camping scene. there are very few other examples, and most of what exists is during kanji's dungeon. after that, we get maybe a few scattered comments--largely directed at, you guessed it, kanji--and then the group date, and then the crossdressing. nothing beats the camping trip in terms of sheer vitriol, and i think there's a reason for that.
after kanji's dungeon, yosuke doesn't understand what he's just seen (and to be fair, most players don't, either). kanji wants to be accepted, regardless of his interests or hobbies; he's scared of girls not because he's gay, but because girls tend to judge him extremely harshly. he works through this after confronting his shadow, and leads an amicable relationship with all his female friends. his effeminate shadow was a reflection of what he felt he was supposed to be ashamed of--not a secret harboring for dick.
yosuke doesn't get all that. he's too scared. he's just watched a man confront his inherent femininity in a way that came across as very homoerotic. the homoeroticism hit so close to home that yosuke was consumed by it, ignorant of the surrounding elements. this caused him to lash out as kanji first began to seek companionship with him and souji.
yosuke thinks being gay is bad, and wrong, and scary, and he projects upon kanji all his fears: are other boys safe with him, if he likes them? (is souji safe with him?) when kanji reacts violently to the accusation, yosuke pushing buttons kanji has just worked so painstakingly to deal with, yosuke tries to deescalate the situation without backing down from his stance. he can't show weakness here--if anyone knows he's okay with someone being gay, they might think he's gay, and that would be bad. again, society and ignorance have tempered yosuke's views into a sharp and dangerous point.
however, what's significant to me is after the fact: yosuke never behaves like this again.
the next time he brings up kanji's supposed gayness, it's in a light, joking manner that shows no fear at all. he doesn't want it to be a serious issue; he's just teasing, trying to mend bridges the only way he knows how (and kanji's far past it by then anyway). he knows he put kanji in danger, and knows he went too far, in my opinion. he realized he was being too aggressive towards someone he considers a friend, and no amount of fear is worth that to him.
compare and contrast with the group date scene: specifically, the version where you "boldly sit on the girl's side". you can flirt openly with yosuke, and while he gets extremely flustered, he's never mean. it doesn't change his opinion of souji, maybe because he thinks it's all a joke, or maybe--more importantly--because souji is his best friend. yosuke doesn't want to drive a wedge between them, and wants to brush the experience off as souji playing games, because then everything stays normal and fine. he's not trying to push souji away, like he tried to push kanji away during camping. he may not think souji is gay, but more importantly, he learned a lesson about being so vitriolic over the topic. maybe he thinks it calls more attention to himself if he's so aggressive... or maybe he feels remorse. regardless, he and kanji get on well for most of the game.
in the crossdressing pageant, yosuke does an... admirable job. he does a little falsetto, chides souji for being so comfortable, and otherwise is focused on himself and how embarrassed he is. i think he's so focused on how he must look to everyone that he doesn't care what's going on with the other boys. he wants to do a good job--hence the falsetto--but he's also humiliated. he can't joke his way out of the situation, and it shows.
yosuke's homophobia can definitely be a joke, but i find it to serve narrative purpose as well, in that in tells a story of who he is as a person... and demonstrates how he can move beyond it. and what would have been the perfect event to bookend this arc?
his romance, of course.
part iii: golden cocked it all up (kinda)
i like golden's gameplay changes, and i like adachi's s-link. that's about it. the "up close and personal" stuff pisses me off SO MUCH because it's in direct opposition to things yosuke says during his fucking s-link. remember when he's kind of rambling to nanako in souji's room and he says he's "not looking" for a relationship right now? remember that? golden sure doesn't!
as well as that, there are a handful of scenes added that have yosuke make homophobic jokes that don't align properly with his arc. i can't name any off the top of my head--only been through golden up to naoto's dungeon and only once, so far--but i know they're in there. overall, golden paints yosuke more as an aggressive and cocky asshole, and only by adding scenes... however, i have to give credit where it's due: golden didn't mess everything up. the nighttime talks with yosuke are largely a delight and fit well with his character. (i think the romance mod edits some of them but thus far i've only seen base game ones.) also when he defensively tells marie he's souji's partner, i love that.
the "up close and personal" crap bothers me the most, seconded by how aggressive yosuke is to teddie in some of the new scenes. he and teddie are friends; yosuke doesn't hate him. but that's a rant for later.
point is, golden's additions largely treat yosuke's homophobia as a joke, where in vanilla, while it did happen, it also serves narrative purpose for him to be that way.
part iv: wrapping up
i know homophobia is a sore subject for a lot of us, being queer people ourselves. i know it's not fun to see a character you love act so vile. i understand. but i really think that yosuke's literal fear of gayness adds to his character, rather than detract from it. it's just a half-told story, because his romance route was ultimately cut--there's no payoff to his bigotry. there's only the events happening, and then... the game goes on. yosuke never confronts those feelings or realizes anything about himself in an open way.
however, as a writer, artist, and avid roleplayer, i love to explore yosuke as if this were a fully-fleshed character trait. i love to delve deep into his emotions and motivations and come away with ways for him to move beyond his fears. i hope in writing this short essay i've opened some of you up to more critically examining his character and, rather than condemning him for his faults, searching his personality and actions for explanations and purpose in the things he does.
i think persona 4 is a very, very well-written game. i think there's a lot of nuance and a lot under the surface that people can't or refuse to see. i think the game deserves more meta commentary, and i hope to fill some of that niche with my deep dive into one hanamura yosuke.
until next time!

and so it begins!
RANK 1-2 OF YOSUKE'S S-LINK
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
right off the bat i wanna talk about how yosuke still takes souji out for steak. chie may have crashed his original plans, but the moment souji agrees to hang out one-on-one, yosuke treats him to "the local delicacy" as originally intended. he's serious about repaying people for their kindness!
so of course this is where we see people talking smack about yosuke for the first time. right around the corner, too, like... geez. how rude?
yosuke has this to say:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(i answered "that must be tough" between caps 1 and 2)
based on later parts of yosuke's s-link, as well as who yosuke is a person, i have little doubt that he's not being entirely truthful here. remember, he and souji just met. yosuke is still trying to get to know his new friend, and to do that, he needs to be cool and fun and carefree, right?
it's not that he's lying so much as it is that he's being rather flippant about the situation instead of discussing it seriously. it's easier to not care. it's easier to say the worst part is being polite all the time. it's easier to smile and wink and say "heh, that's just how it is!" when you're trying to impress the cool new guy.
Tumblr media
yosuke's letting souji in, don't get me wrong. he's something of an open book, with his heart on his sleeve; he doesn't lie, he doesn't deceive. he just is. and in that being, he shows souji bits and pieces of himself, time and time again.
say what you will about how atlus handled yosuke, but i enjoy his s-link very much... and am very excited to see how this mod changes it.

okay guys here's our first big boy: SAKI KONISHI'S DEATH & YOSUKE'S SHADOW
some big honkin spoilers ahead, so if you're not done with P4 for some reason, consider skipping this until you are! i mean it! i very casually mention big things!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yosuke doesn't know yet at this point that Saki is dead, yet Chie takes one look at him and knows something's up. so what IS up?
now, Saki's been missing for a day at this point. it's strange enough that her family have contacted the police. there's a chance they also stormed into Junes to ask about their daughter, but i think the far more likely scenario is that Yosuke has been trying to get ahold of her.
after the interview -- i'm sure one of the elder Hanamuras watches the news as it airs -- Yosuke would have reached out to make sure she was okay. now, even if Saki managed a reply at the time, chances are good that it would have been lackluster (she would have been upset and not wanted to tell Yosuke), and shortly after, she was accosted by Adachi.
Yosuke hasn't heard from her in a day and a half. weird? well, if we believe that Saki never liked him, it'd be all too likely that she ignored his texts more often than not. however, i don't think that's the case.
i think Saki DID like him. Yosuke was a little brother to her. but we'll return to that in a bit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
immediately upon learning that Saki is gone, Yosuke makes a pained, sad noise, and otherwise doesn't respond. there's a chance he'd entertained the thought, but it would have been a worst-case-scenario idea, albeit becoming slightly more likely as he went longer and longer hearing nothing back. this is a shock, and his response to that is to turn inward, retreat into his metaphorical shell.
Yosuke is loud at times, very outspoken, but he also hides his true feelings well from everyone but Souji, who he genuinely opens up to. this is before that, though, and in this moment i think Yosuke feels alone. as his Shadow tells us, loneliness is one of his biggest fears. Chie may be worried about him, and he knows this, but can she truly understand? can anybody? he's not well-acquainted enough with Naoki to have him to turn to (and at this point he'd be rejected anyway), so Yosuke has realized his fear of being lonely, in this single moment.
he quickly rectifies this by recklessly dragging Chie and Souji into the issue. Yosuke likes Chie. they're friends -- i'd wager Chie was one of his first friends in Inaba, just knowing how she is. but as much as he likes her, they're obviously not close, not yet. yet in this moment, when Yosuke is alone and scared, she and Souji are the closest friends he's got. he experienced the TV world with them, solidifying an otherwise tenuous bond (and Souji pulled him out of a trashcan). this is what he's got, and he's going to pull them under the riptide with him, one way or another.
of course, he can't make them feel grief they don't have a real reason to feel. he can, however, drag them into a reckless endeavor that could very well get him and Souji killed. is he thinking? not much. he's doing, a Yosuke staple.
not to say he doesn't ever think. because no matter what happens:
Tumblr media
Yosuke is the first member of the not-yet-existent Investigation Team to figure out what's going on. he's not stupid, not by a long shot. reckless? sometimes, yes. but not stupid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yosuke does, as his Shadow says, want something exciting to happen. he wants to be a hero, he wants to be important. Saki's death has shaken him, though, and his response to that is to seek answers. that's not a lie. not a whole truth, either, but not a lie. he needs her death to have meaning -- it can't be random happenstance, it can't be a coincidence. it needs to mean something, because she meant something, and she didn't deserve this.
so in they go, with Yosuke's smart, if ineffective idea to use a lifeline. there's no question of whether he's going to bring Chie or Souji; there's a lot of potential reasons for that, i think, varying from knowing he can trust Chie with the lifeline to having a good gut feeling about his new friend Souji. but, anyway.
Tumblr media
another big issue i have with Golden is that Yosuke is always ragging on Teddie. playing vanilla P4, i never got the idea that Yosuke resented or disliked Teddie. in fact, i, like many others, latched onto the Hanamura Bros as a concept. i think Golden forgets that Yosuke doesn't like to be mean. he distresses Teddie by claiming he gets no respect (calling Souji "sensei" versus simply calling Yosuke his given name), and immediately tries to make Teddie feel better. he cares, goddammit!
Tumblr media
when they start hearing the voices in and out of the liquor store, Yosuke is notably upset. however, it's worth pointing out that none of this is wholly related to Saki, is it? no, it's Yosuke's perception of Saki's issues.
Tumblr media
issues Yosuke was always afraid of. issues he feels deeply upset to find realized like this. he's not mad at Saki; he's mad at his own blindness, his inability to see what was happening right in front of him. yet, for all his righteous indignation, he's doing it again: he's missing what's happening right under his nose.
Saki Konishi may have made this place when she stumbled into the TV, but she's dead now. are her lingering thoughts permeating the liquor store where she likely died?
(crappy youtube screenshot incoming, i forgot to grab one for this line)
Tumblr media
dear reader, i posit to you that these are not her thoughts at all, if for no other reason than this line alone.
in this caricature of a liquor store, amidst implications that she hated Yosuke specifically, Yosuke hears her final thoughts... or so he thinks. he doesn't stop to wonder how a dead girl is lamenting her inability to tell him he was an annoying brat to his face. and to be fair, he doesn't yet understand the TV world. maybe it just doesn't occur to him that this makes absolutely no sense.
why didn't we hear voices in Mayumi Yamano's room? why only here, in a place with significance to one of the people present? because they're not real. they're delusions and fears... deep, dark fears. the kind you stuff away because they seem too self-centered, too preposterous.
what i'm saying is: everything that happens here, everything Yosuke sees and hears, is because of himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
meet our culprit.
Yosuke himself says "Senpai's not like that". and he's right! she's not. but his Shadow knows he's afraid she is; he's afraid she's hated him all along, in secret, only playing nice because he's the manager's kid. his shadow is taking a deep, dark fear and presenting it to the open air, because that's what P4 Shadows do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yosuke thinks he's not smart enough to be perceptive, not even towards himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the worst fear of all... that he's not empathetic. that he's selfish, that he wants to do this all for himself. does he, really? partially. but his Shadow is still mocking him, blowing his fears into massive proportions -- Yosuke came here seeking answers. he cares about Saki Konishi. but he does want to be a hero. he craves the kind of excitement you feel when things are happening to you. he wants that, he wants to be important and special. he wants to avenge Saki, or uncover the cause of her death... but he also wants to be the hero who did so. and he's afraid of that, of the idea that he's not 100% noble in this endeavor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Souji has a few good options here, but i'm partial to the first one. he reminds Yosuke that no matter how he feels deep down, he's still the same person he was walking in here. and while it's hard to accept, and hard to face, Yosuke overcomes those obstacles thanks to Souji's words and his own will to move forward. he is granted his Persona, but as with all S-Links, he has a long way to go before he's well and truly over everything he just witnessed.
Tumblr media
above everything else, Yosuke has realized something very important:
he's not alone.
Tumblr media
And every time we touch, I get this feeling~

i swear it didn't use to be this way, but apparently even text posts are now limited to only 10 images. so these are gonna be a little shorter from now on. probably for the best, right? that said, let's get into saving yukiko part 1! we left off with everyone getting ready to enter the tv and chase after yukiko. they meet her shadow, teddie learns about "scoring" and "hot studs", and nothing super interesting with yosuke happens for a little bit. then we get this:
Tumblr media
once again i remind everyone that yosuke is a natural subordinate. yes, he's just explaining game mechanics here, but it's cute how he so easily defers to souji, isn't it?
onward, to just after the shadow chie boss fight...
Tumblr media
yosuke legitimately does all he can to comfort chie after the fight. and, i mean, of course he does. she's his friend and he knows what this is like. he's an empath; this is what he does.
accepting yourself is hard. yosuke knows this. he's going to be here for his friend as she has to do the same thing he did, and pay it forward re: souji helping him in the same way.
sometimes, though, empathy isn't enough. sometimes, even someone like yosuke has to be a little rough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
chie wants to push on and save yukiko despite how worn out her persona made her. yosuke, who i will remind everyone is not stupid, sees the situation for what it is and tells chie that she needs to take a break NOW. he's right, after all: if they get too tired to carry on, who will save yukiko?
yosuke views personas as a superpower, sure, and they're all superheroes in that regard, but that doesn't mean he doesn't take this seriously. losing saki made him viscerally aware of the stakes. people can, and maybe will die.
so they can't fail. no matter what.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yosuke understands his strengths! it's worth noting that he does very clearly make himself out to still be important, "second banana" and "advisor", but he's not wrong about that being where his talents lie. he's an ideas man. he's creative and clever and wants to be at souji's side through this, because that's where he'll be the most useful.
well... and it's just where he likes to be. souji is special to him.

i ran into yosuke on my first night out of the house, so let's do a quick post about his dialogue!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOSUKE IS CONCERNED ABOUT SOUJI... oogh my frail little heart. more importantly, he is very much fishing for assurance that he's wanted, here. "yeah man i'll hang out with you" is very much code for "oh my god i want to hang out with you, please". he injects it subtly but suddenly into the conversation, and when you ask him if he knows any places to hang out, he says the junes food court is all he knows, and then...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"i want to know more about you" he suggests, while visibly flustered. look me in the fucking eye and say this boy is heterosexual, i dare you.
Tumblr media
BONUS: yosuke reads... something, apparently

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
wow, that is gay.
hello and welcome to another installment of metayos!
Tumblr media
so much has happened to Yosuke is so little time. he's discovered the existence of a world inside the TV, had a beloved friend get murdered, witnessed the darkest parts of himself, and accepted them to gain the power of persona.
everything is so hard, yet he powers through it as best he can. all Souji's friends do, really, but Yosuke has lost the most -- Saki. and through his s-link, we find that as hard as he tries, it takes more than that to move on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
haha gay
Tumblr media
so upon seeing Yukiko's shadow and her little tv show, "horny dudebro" Yosuke is... worried. it doesn't sound like her, and he's upset about it. he's surprised at first, but surprise quickly gives way to this worry.
so much for that portrayal of him, eh?
Tumblr media
O-oh... Yosuke-kun...~
Tumblr media
okay but why did you have Junes brand fake weaponry in your closet
Tumblr media
Yosuke worries about Chie, not because she's a girl, but because she's persona-less and he now knows what kind of dangers await them in the TV world.
he also, more than likely, wants it to be just him and Souji, a dynamic he seems to grow more and more accustomed to.
Tumblr media
Hanamura Yosuke is an absolute sub, in this essay i will --
Tumblr media
really though. he defers so readily and so easily to Souji, who hasn't even been appointed leader yet. he's *eager* to have Souji in charge, not just because Souji is competent, but because Yosuke likes being commanded. he likes having someone telling him what to do. he's an absolute bottom and the only thing keeping him from letting Souji top him in bed is his insistence that he's straight, which would make him want to be "the man" in a sexual relationship, i.e, on top. silly Yosuke, taking it up the ass won't make you any less of a man!
aaaanyway...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
still worried about Chie. he's more than aware of the fact that he could have died in the TV world, were it not for Souji. if Chie dies, if it's Yosuke's fault for not stopping her... well. that's the sort of guilt he can't live with.
they may have an antagonistic relationship half the time, but Yosuke cares about Chie. he wouldn't try so hard if he didn't!
next up, saving Yukiko! stay tuned!

this time on metayos: befriending yosuke & meeting saki konishi
Tumblr media
yosuke has met souji previously, but this is the first time they've really talked, and right away he launches into discussion of the recent murder. this says it's been on his mind a LOT, which is normal -- it was a murder -- but so many other characters in the story have already dismissed it as something beyond them.
yosuke's from the city. it's not like this is rocking his tiny world. or maybe it is, maybe this is a first -- but i think it speaks to a level of empathy not usually exemplified in characters like this. for all the missteps taken with yosuke’s character, i think he’s still a pleasant example of the character archetype he is a part of.
Tumblr media
according to a friend from brazil, it’s not uncommon for the “driver” to stand on the pedals while their “passenger” sits on the seat and holds their feet up. makes sense to me, but then, why did golden --
ah, fuck it. golden’s added story sucks and is inconsistent at best with yosuke’s character. let’s not ask a question whose answer is “they didn’t care”.
anyway, yosuke then invites souji out for steak, on him. yosuke’s frugal, as the game reveals down the line, but even so he offers “the local delicacy” to his new friend for the noble act of rescuing him from a trashcan. he’s pissy when chie hops on the bandwagon, because he has no interest in treating her, broken DVD or no. special treatment towards souji, and they’ve only just met. talk about gay, yosuke.
Tumblr media
at junes, we meet saki konishi, yosuke’s co-worker and senpai. yosuke cares about saki, more of that sweet empathy from before. but let's talk about how many people, other characters included, interpret this as a romantic affection.
i posit this to you: it's not!
yosuke likes saki, yes, but he's not infatuated with her. he thinks she's really cool, and he seeks her approval, and she seems to care about him -- for a kid who reveals down the line that he's never had any real friends, someone like saki is special.
of course, i think a little puppy crush is also reasonable, but i prefer to think that yosuke’s feelings for saki were entirely platonic.
Tumblr media
he worries about her. he's not the single-minded ladies man that golden tried to paint him as; far from it. he's a caring soul, and saki is probably, almost certainly, one of the only people he's ever gotten this close to. they have a dynamic, a brother/sister relationship that he (an only child) has never had.
he's obviously friends with chie, as well, but chie is his age, brash, and likes to play around. yosuke mimics that energy when he's with her. he does that a lot -- as an empath, he takes in and gives out the energy that surrounds him. (a good protagonist always says "calm down" when available, because yosuke is most likely to benefit from it.)
Tumblr media
he's a good kid. people who dismiss him as an egocentric womanizer are missing the point. granted, i'm sure golden has painted that view of him, but even in golden we have scenes like this. he's a complex character, one often dismissed by the fandom (even the parts that like him). as someone who muses him, i can’t tell you how many group roleplays i’ve been in where he was constantly treated like the butt of a joke. fair, sometimes -- but he’s more than comic relief.
Tumblr media
i honestly believe these are saki’s true feelings. she sees yosuke as a genuine, kind young boy who follows her around like a lost puppy. sometimes that probably gets annoying, but as an older sister, she’s generally capable of handling it.
i don’t think saki ever disliked him. but that’s for my next post...
stay tuned!

it's time
hello and welcome to metayos, my liveblog of the Yosuke Romance mod! cobbled together from cut audio files, headcanons, and Yuri Lowenthal Cameos, it promises to be a wild ride. i’ve been looking forward to this mod since it was announced, and now, with some time set aside, i’m ready to dive in.
i installed the version that only edits the s-link, instead of the version that also edits the campout. i know, i know, the campout sucks -- but it's part of who yosuke is. i figured i'd leave it alone. besides, someone else’s idea of what makes it better might totally grate on me, someone who’s about to analyze everything yosuke does. so.
this isn't a new game+ but i'll also be focusing almost entirely on yosuke, so i'm not too worried about my stats or other s-links, though i'll probably play the whole game either way. this will also be a lot of meta commentary on yosuke as a character!
i’m using a few other mods to make my life easier, most of which you won’t see. there is a texture mod, however.
that said, let's begin!
