a bit ab THE ARCHIVES: the kwon family founded it back during the magicka agreements n it’s been in their family’s care ever since! the responsibility is typically passed down to the oldest child of the next generation, etc.

by no means are the kwons filthy rich / cream of the crop spellcasters / A-list celebs of any sort! at most, they’re j a super well-respected family for preserving knowledge n making it a free resource for anyone who needs it

that said, the kwons def take themselves a lil Too seriously,, e.g. they’re big on incantation as a craft n kinda look down on witches who specialise in the other crafts! it’s givin big super fan vibes like imagine sports fans who get personally offended over stuff,, yep

the family will also oust a family member if they, as a witch, end up specialising in any craft other than incantation ( told u it was weirdly elitist )

anw back to mideum! she’s the oldest child four generations into the kwon family, so she’s got her whole life basically planned for her! as a kid, one thing anyone would ever remember of her is that she had really big, explosive emotions!! which is fine and all but to the esteemed kwon family, this was j a lil... ✨ too much ✨ n hella ~ disgraceful ~ considering she’s next in line to inherit the archives!!

they tried their best to discipline her and keep her in check, but she has a really bad temper and it only got worse as she became a teenager!! given that she was v exposed to magic as a kid too, she started learning a few tricks when she was rlly young ( ~8-10? ) and was j a terror!! she’d even cast spells and hexes on others and at some point, her parents were like aight u r actually feral and cannot be trusted in society

so they took her out of sch when she was 14 and she’s been homeschooled since! given that her future was basically planned for her, there was really no need to learn algebra and shit like that, so most of her lessons were to do w the grimoires ( SUPERVISED,, V IMPT ) that were kept in the archives!

having spent 24/7 with j her parents, she was also heavily punished whenever she acted out so naturally, she learnt to be really well-behaved ( e.g. if her parents asked her to jump she’d ask how high ),, it was to the point that she j learnt to bottle up all her emotions and sorta subconsciously grew 2 unds that it was bad to even have them

bc of this, while she grew to be rlly knowledgeable ab grimoires and diff spells, her magic worsened?? incantations require strong emotions to be cast and she grew so out of touch w her own emotions that her magic became rlly inconsistent n unreliable n it’s to the point where she barely tries anymore bc she’s can’t stand bein let down by Herself

also fun fact: she’s a permanent fixture in the archives! alw running around there and was basically a free labour librarian since a teen!! ask her ab any book she knows exactly where it’s kept, what it’s ab, could even recite spells and cite the exact pages ( def gave off know-it-all energy a la stranger things dustin henderson -- when i say she was ANNOYIN )

bc of her being rlly knowledgeable + being the oldest child of the kwon family + whatever else people may remember of her youth ( aka her being annoying w her spellcasting from a v young age ) she’s started to develop a rep that she’s j like a really talented spellcaster but that cannot be further from the truth! that said, she’s embracing this reputation n will say it’s true if anyone asks her

present day, she’s been promoted to bein an archivist! v v knowledgeable abt grimoires and has become a real asset to the archives, much to her parents’ relief! also still a permanent fixture in the archives so rlly nth else has changed ya gworl is truly that npc in a video game here 2 provide u expansive info on wtv grimoires u need for ur quest

hello friends it’s red (21+ they/them), i’m so excited for this group and to plot with everybody even though i’m very unprepared lol! i’ve got a profile up so far for kui and a slightly too long overview under the cut. as always, if you’re interested in plotting, feel free to drop a like on this post and i’ll come to your messages!

so this guy’s named yao kui and he’s a witch from a completely human family! he manifested some magical tendencies at a pretty early age, and his family pretty much accepted it and supported it as well as they could have. as the youngest, he was doted on and his older sister was really protective, so they rarely ran into any issues.

(this also ended up with him being very enabled to do things his own way LOL)

he came to jeju to attend tamna academy and get a better grasp of his magical abilities, which are actually quite strong when used in the proper way (which he... rarely does!) he also isn’t very good with attending class on time and may or may not be flunking elixirs because he mixes things together based on ‘vibes’ and ‘colors’.

he's shameless about making mistakes and just thinks it’s hilarious, unfortunately. his lack of care for details, traditional magic, and magical history are his toxic traits lol. probably gives some witches migraines with the way he refuses to read the academy grimoires.

kui uses song and poetry to channel his magic, as an incantations-focused witch. he improvises a lot, and plays handheld instruments for accompaniment. he’s a very whimsical type of guy who likes shoving nonsense rhymes in everywhere, which usually makes it so there are unexpected effects with his magic, but he’s never unhappy about it!

he gravitates towards flashy, cool, fun magic - magic that’s just there to create an adrenaline rush and look super cool, like making patterned fireworks and taking people flying! he ‘performs’ magic in public places, usually around the human tourists to give them something to remember (and also get their money lol)

he once performed at hallasan hall as a student act and had a very mixed reaction because of his style of incantations and the lack of structure. think stand-up comedy meets poetry slam meets magic show. he made fun of a lot of audience members that night T_T

tl;dr he’s unserious as fuck, freestyles too much, and suffers from severe lack of adult supervision

ahh this is late, hihi everyone i’m el (they/them) and i’m here to introduce my beloved meow meow minsol ❁ he’s pretty rough around the edges lol but maybe we’ll find something redeeming along the way ! here’s his bio, profile, inspo, and plots that once again ive failed to finish writing in time. unfortunately i’m rly busy today, but i still wanted to get this out so i’m not even later, and i fully intend to catch up on everyone’s intros tomorrow!!

‘98, he/him, magpie familiar

adopted by a couple in a small town who didn’t know he was a familiar until he first shifted. he doesn’t know who his birth parents are but it never really concerned him

was pretty sheltered throughout childhood, used to be a lot softer and thought he could use what little powers he had to heal people, to heal the world

moved to jeju when he was 19, although it was less a “move” and more a “needed to be somewhere other than the place he grew up in,” and he had happened to hear that jeju was a safe haven for magic users. by then, he doubted there was really such a thing as safe -- but there must’ve been enough of an idealist left in him that he ended up here

a family took pity on him when he first arrived and allowed him to stay at one of their spare rooms in exchange for helping around their farm. after a few years, he scraped up enough to start renting his own place

his past is hidden behind like a level 10000 friendship lock tho you’re more likely to catch him making up lies abt his family than the truth 😭 

due to undisclosed reasons, his voice has a permanent rasp to it, and he’s used to people thinking he smokes or smth. it’s even more noticeable when he shifts and tries to chirp and it just sounds scratchy/hoarse

exterior/personality:

like any dutiful corvid, he’s very protective of his hoard aka a small compartment in his room where he keeps his precious shiny things. he likes things with a shine to them the most, but specifically things made out of glass or silver

if he likes something but not intensely enough to squirrel it away, he displays it around the apartment. his shelves and tables are full of glass figurines n he has too many silverware than he knows what to do with it’s starting to become a problem

used to love shifting to sing and talk with other birds (he didnt have many friends ok......). singing is a little difficult and sometimes painful if he strains himself now but he took up a job at the sanctuary because he wanted to feel that sense of belonging again. v protective of the animals there so treat them right or else

very into movies and music -- had a late start on pop culture when he finally moved out lol so he’s currently voraciously burning through the classic movies, esp ones with memorable soundtracks

started dabbling in musical composition as an alternative after ruining his voice and thinks it would be cool to score a major film someday

for now tho he shoots his own short "films” and composes little pieces for them. really wants to do more serious projects but like. doesn’t know how to begin/feels like it’s too late yk?

outwardly, he exudes a lot of ur typical uhhh mysterious bad boy persona LMAO but he thinks it beats being mistaken for weak and someone who can be taken advantage of, so he lets people think what they want ! 

close friends (does he have any????) probably see more of a tired, self aware, and sheepish version of him who, like....actually laughs..... prone to angry rants about literally the smallest thing and then talking himself out of it after bc he gets embarrassed when he’s caught experiencing a strong emotion

has a big thing against being used for his abilities, which has extended into a strong aversion to being touched without his permission. hasn’t used his ability for anyone else for five years now and is perfectly content to keep it that way for the time

for those reasons, he’s adamantly against bonding right now, but he thinks a pack would sound nice,, if he could actually allow himself to get close enough to people, at least -_-

some wanted connections:

someone from the family who first gave him a place to stay. i imagine they’d still be pretty close now, but alternatively it could be the opposite where they didn’t get along so well or the muse resented that their parents just took him in like that

someone who’s also very into filmmaking + preferably makes films of their own! i’d love for him to have someone whose work he’d feel really in awe of and actively want to make music for, and for them to build up a little resume of independent films they’ve worked on together

someone else who either works at the sanctuary or just shares the same protectiveness over animals. one day, they find an injured animal and end up helping nurse it back to health together and eventually re-release it into the wild

a poor muse who works or hangs around somewhere he often visits (music shops, cafes, diners) and is terrified of him/convinced he hates them bc of his resting bitch face, but part of the reason he’s a regular there is actually bc he enjoys their company

a fellow corvid who has a bit of a hoarding problem too. maybe they enable each other, support each other’s collections, or are actively trying to defeat the habit together 😭

a fellow familiar or witch who doesn’t want to bond either but feels the same pressure to. they could sympathize and grab a drink about it together

hellooo!! effie here (they/them) excited to join everyone here in magicka!! it’s been awhile since i’ve done tumblr rp but i’m glad to be back. today i bring to you today my little nuisance chai! if you’re mobile you can view his profile and plots on the page and i was too lazy to set up a background just yet but i promise i have it all in my head and will go a little bit over it below!

so chai comes as the only witch of his immediate family, aka his parents and 3 younger siblings are all humans, so he didn’t learn about his magical abilities until about 14 years old

so he’s only been aware/participating in the magic world for the past 12 years which is still a long time to get the hang of things! he’s an elixirs witch which kinda falls in line with his enjoyment of cooking and gardening i think

he came to jeju island three years ago to get away from his family because (surprise) being the only witch is kinda isolating at times, his family doesn’t really get magic, and he wanted to be somewhere he felt more connected to 

because of some bad interactions after learning of his witchiness (is that a word idk?) he’s not too fond of humans outside of his family. they’re like... irritating, and he’s not afraid to say that to their faces

i think because he’s a little brash, he struggles with incantations. that’s assuming you have to be really poetic about them, which he would not be.

his favorite planet to call upon would be venus. he loves making love potions. cupid chai anyone?

speaking of love, he totes got into a bond within a year of coming to jeju and oops that didn’t work out for either of them apparently (plot? 👀 plot? 👀) so now he’s been focusing on himself and is lowkey anti-bonding rn

he now works at poshun’s, selling his own elixirs, and tutors some at tamna academy for elixirs 

his favorite location on jeju island is probably the waterfalls, he collects some of the fresh water as ingredients for his elixirs

i would love to see his elixirs going horribly wrong though

( ˙꒳​˙ ) ♡ yay magicka! i'm delta ( s/h ) and i'm bringing ito michiko to the party. she's your typical people-pleaser to a fault. she's trying to change that, but you know what they say about old habits: they die hard. especially when you're a WITCH. 😳

background info.

born in tokyo to two human parents. her maternal aunt / mom’s sister was a witch. her name is yuuko and so much of michiko’s views are based on her experiences but also what her aunt told her.

she’s a libra disaster, btw. super extroverted, almost to a fault and will typically assume a closeness that she doesn’t have with someone. her parents were very affectionate and cheered her on in everything she did growing up ( also very much Only Child ) so she’s got a heightened sense of self confidence but it also allows her to be very, erm, cringeworthy at times.

speaks without thinking nine times out of ten.

she can be pretty persuasive at times and, no, that’s not the magic.

found out about her being a witch on the day before her 16th birthday, when her aunt was trying to give her a necklace as a charm but was having trouble with doing so. without thinking twice about it, michiko helped her .... before proceeding to have about five thousand questions.

being that both of her parents were human, they couldn’t help her in the way that her aunt could, so she moved to live with aunt yuuko around the time of her eighteenth birthday. being that she was so close to her parents, this has crushed her.

michiko is very impulsive, but it was a trait that her aunt wasn’t well-equipped to help change for the better. if michiko’s a lit match, then yuuko would be a ticking timebomb.

despite not always knowing the best way to say something or how to say it, michiko always wanted to help people. consider it her people pleaser tendencies, but she went into social work as a way to help people in any way that she can. 

when her words don’t help, though, it’s so hard to not immediately resort to using magic and handing out helpful charms left, right and center.

her work brought her from tokyo to jeju island, after a freak accident had her old boss sent to the hospital. being that she was working in an office filled with humans ( her mom was the one who’d recommended her ) the witch elders in tokyo came to the consensus that it’d be best for her to head to jeju island, just so that she could

life in jeju.

her korean is a little rusty, but she’s getting there. expect some confusion and a little mistake here or there. she’s good with rolling with the punches. if  your muse ever wonders did she just say that? she probably did, but she didn’t mean it. she’s very much of the belief that, if she doesn’t make a big deal of it, then it’s not a big deal.

her first few months on the island, she was sort of a recluse. she would just go to work and come home. in that time, she was working on her understanding of magic ( having lived all those years with her aunt, 10+ meant that the elder woman would always be doing most of the magic. michiko is working on getting better. )

now that she’s been here for a little over a year, she’s getting to the point where she wants to go out! she’s the type of person who needs people in her life. she’ll talk to the walls when no one is listening.

the concept of bonding is very intriguing to her. you might say that she goes out and makes all these friends in an attempt to feel like she’s getting closer to finding her bondmate, but as of late, she’s never felt further away from it. :-(

basically: she’s just a loud libra trying her best. if you ever need a charm, she’s your girl but it might turn your hair blue in the process? so do what you will with that.

Making Games Conference 2018 – Die Highlights

Am 25. und 26. Oktober findet die zweite Ausgabe der Making Games Conference statt und holt dafür einige bekannte Namen aus der Spielebranche nach München. Dabei ist nicht nur John Romeros Vortrag zum diesjährigen 25. Geburtstag der legendären Games-Serie Doom ist ein guter Grund, in zwei Wochen in den Gasteig zu kommen: Viele weitere Sprecher aus der Gaming-Branche, wie beispielsweise Valentina Tamer (King), Alon Kaplan (Joy Tunes/Biohex Games) und Björn Pankratz (Piranha Bytes) geben auf der Konferenz interessante Details aus ihrem Job als Entwickler, Ausblicke in die Zukunft des Gamings oder Tipps für angehende Spiele-Entwickler.

Die Making Games Konferenz hat sich in ihrer zweiten Edition mit dem animago Award & Conference zusammengeschlossen. So ergibt sich eine einzigartige Konferenz-Kombination, welche Studenten, Kreative und Profis aus den Bereichen Spieleentwicklung, Animation, 3D, VFX und Film zusammenbringt. Absolutes Highlight im Programm der MGC 2018 ist John Romero (John Romero Ltd.). Der Gründer von id Software und Schöpfer wird in seinem Classic Post Mortem „25 Years of Rip&Tear“ einen Rückblick auf ein Vierteljahrhundert „Doom“ geben und erzählen, wie das Spiel entstand und sich entwickelt hat, um bis heute einer der ganz großen Namen zu bleiben.

„Intro into Narrative Desgin: Developing video games that say more than thousand words” ist der Titel von Valentina Tamer’s Talk. Valentina ist derzeit Game & Narrative Designer bei King und hat zuvor bei Daedalic an Spielen wie “Ken Follett’s: The Pillars of the Earth” mitgewirkt. In ihrem Vortrag wird sie darauf eingehen, wie man mit Spielen eine Geschichte erzählen kann und in welcher Beziehung “Narrative” zum Gameplay steht.

Elex von Piranha Bytes gilt als eines der größten deutschen Spiele der letzten Jahre.

Björn Pankratz von Piranha Bytes – bekannt durch „Elex“ – wird in seiner Session „Open World RPGs – Pure Masochism“ erzählen, wie schön und zugleich frustrierend es bisweilen sein kann, als Spieleentwickler das Hobby zum Beruf gemacht zu haben und wie die Piranhas es schaffen, ihre Ziele zu erreichen.

Alon Kaplan’s (Joy Tunes/Biohex Games) Keynote “Scoring for Film and Games – Mastering the Challenge” stammt aus der Rubrik “Sound” und wird sich damit beschäftigen, wo die Unterschiede im Komponieren von Musik für Spiele und Filme liegen, wo Fallen lauern und wie man diese umgehen kann.

Wer sich für das Programmieren mit Unity interessiert, der ist bei Matthias Rudy (CipSoft) richtig. Er berichtet anhand des Titels „Panzer League“ – dem ersten mobile MOBA mit Panzern – über „A couple of things you should know before developing a Mobile Multiplayer Game with Unity“.

Ebenfalls mit dabei sind Petra Monheim, Fred Löfberg & Thomas Oger von Goodbye Kansas, die in „Creating Overkill’s The Walking Dead Character Teaser Trailer” zeigen, wie man Trailer erschafft, die dem Betrachter einen Schauer über den Rücken laufen lassen.

Das Programm im Gasteig teilt sich auf in Making Games Conference-Programm im Carl-Amery-Saal (speziell auf Spieleentwickler ausgelegt), ein Kombi-Programm für Besucher beider Branchen im Kleinen Konzertsaal sowie das animago-spezifische Programm in der Black Box und im Carl-Orff-Saal. Mit den Making Games Conference Tickets erhält der Besucher Zutritt zu den Vorträgen im Carl-Amery-Saal sowie im Kleinen Konzertsaal.
