It's Newspaper November!

Specifically, it's Agony Aunt Column November. From November 1-5, we encourage you to submit an in-character letter to our inbox, where it will reach MI6's very own agony aunt, Grievances Goodnight!

Submit your ask (it can be anonymous) and begin it with Dear Grievances Goodnight.

Maybe your letter will be signed Quintessentially Quirky and it will wonder about the best kind of nerd-wear to buy a gentleman used to something more traditional. Or maybe you'll write in as I Have Top-Notch Range Scores Honestly and have a question about working with a coworker you killed injured with an Olympic Arms K2B3 rifle.

From November 6-12, we'll post the letters and ask you to take on the character of Grievances Goodnight and write a reply to someone else's query!

In case you miss out the first time, we'll also run the agony aunt event in the second half of the month as well.

Thank you to everyone who participated in last month's LDWS competition! It was a pleasure to have people writing for the prompts and reading, giving feedback, and voting on all the entries.

You MAY Choose Your Own Adventure!

For this month’s challenge, it’s company retreat time--disguised as a training mission! The agents have been marooned on an island and given a map. There’s a hidden chest with Q Branch prototypes for whoever can find it first. Q has promised it is in one of the locations indicated by an icon on the map. What are you waiting for? Start hunting!

Tag any works you make with #MI6CafeChallenge and tag @mi6-cafe on tumblr so we can reblog your work! At the end of the month we’ll reveal what the agents found at their locations! You can also see the prompts on the Cafe Wordpress and download the map for a higher quality image.

Graveyard ― Create something with the title: In the Service of the Reaper

Tall Fortress ― Fill an anon prompt that no one has done yet

Prairie ― A mundane event happening in the most unlikely of places

Sunken Ship ― We know Bond was in the Navy, but how did Character A find out?

City ― Create something based on one of March’s moodboards (Find them here!)

It's Flashback February!

This month we ask you to create something in which the past mingles with the present. This could be done in writing, visually, with podfic audio, with recommendations, or any other method! Just tag with #mi6cafechallenge and include @mi6-cafe so we can find it.

Quarterly Theme: Secondary Characters

Between each equinox we will have a different overarching theme. To start us off, it is secondary characters. This could look like creating things from secondary character POVs, centering secondary characters, recommending works about secondary characters, or anything else you enjoy! All you have to do is make a post, use the tag #Quarterly Theme, and include @mi6-cafe so that it shows up in our activity feed.

It’s National Poetry Month!

We were delighted and amazed by the outpouring of moodboard talent you all showed last month! You can find them all in the Moodboard March tag. This month we are hoping to turn that talent to celebrating national poetry month.

We have a specific challenge (see details below), but we also welcome any poems you would like to create or recommend this month. Whether you are creating new works or recommending works by others, tag @mi6-cafe in your posts so it shows up in our notifications and we can reblog it!

Weekend Wonders: Poetry 

Our Weekend Wonders theme this month will be poetry. Start keeping an eye open for fanworks which are poems, or which feature poetry, to share the second weekend of the month!

We are challenging you, as a community, to create a poetry series. What does this mean? It means that everyone who is interested will be invited into a shared slack group and google doc to create loads of poems all around a single theme. Maybe these poems will directly be inspired by one another, maybe they will be twenty different ways of reflecting on a theme, either way, we hope it will be a wonderful collection of amazing poems!

It’s Occult October!

Sp00qy season is upon us! This month we challenge you to make or rec fancreations that involve Bond characters and anything that’s uncanny, wyrd, monstrous, magical, or spooky. (Or, you know, anything that has to do with the characters celebrating Halloween or related holidays.)

If you’re someone who likes specific prompts, we have five for you to choose from!

Vampires or Parasitic Monsters 

Werewolves or Shapeshifters

Mad Scientists or Experiments

Hauntings or Possessions 

Curses or Spells

As always, all ships, gen fic, and genres are welcome!

Trick-or-Treat Mini Event

Our post-Fest survey had several people asking about smaller events, and this is our first one!

From October 24th to October 31st, we’re asking you to choose a specific 48 hours to do your personal comment-a-thon. The idea is that you’ll be passing out comment goodies just the same way that people would pass out Halloween candy! But we know that not everyone has the 48 hours around Halloween free, so we invite you to comment on the days that make the most sense to you.

What counts as a comment? Positive comments on AO3, kind words directly on tumblr reblogs, or happy rambling in tumblr tags. Publicly visible tweets and comments on other social media like Facebook and Instagram are also great for our participants on other platforms.

When your 48 hours are finished, you’ll fill out a Cafe form with your total number of comments and we’ll update the running Cafe total!

We hope you’ll have your own personal goal, but our fandom goal is to pass out at least 100 comment treats during Halloween week!

Characters of 2022: Q

This year we are adding a subtheme for every month. We are encouraging you to focus on one character and then give us all your recommendations and new creations the last week of the month. Whishaw!Q (2012-present) and Llewelyn!Q (1963-1991) are arguably the most beloved of the franchise, but if you’re diving into classic Eon canon, you can’t forget Cleese!Q (1999-2002) and Burton!Q (1962) as well.

It’s Superlative September!

This month, we’re asking you to nominate your Top 3 fics in categories like fluff, angst, and mission fic. Each category has its own window for nominations, and then after a few days it will be on to the next one! At the end of the month, we’ll put everyone’s nominations to a vote and see which nomination is the supreme superlative!

It's Join Up June!

First of all, we encourage you to SIGN UP for this year's 007 Fest, which is in a fun new format! Sign-ups are between June 1-15; you can join after that if you email us, but onboarding may take a little longer. See this post for details!

Second of all, to start getting in the 007 Fest mood, we would love to see your headcanons about how Bond characters joined their organizations! Why did Felix end up in the CIA? What was Bond's recruitment process like? How did Mallory approach Moneypenny? What led to Hinx being in that SPECTRE meeting?

Other fancreations are welcome---fic and art are great---but 007 Fest is about everyone being able to participate, so this month we especially love headcanons, opinions, and what-ifs!

Riverhouse Remix Sign-ups Are Open

Our remix sign-ups open today and go through February 12th. Assignments will go out on Feb 18th, giving creators two months in which to create their remixes.

You will be secretly assigned to someone to remix one of their works. Likewise, someone will be secretly creating something based off of one of your works. Works will be posted anonymously for a time on AO3 before being revealed.

It’s January Journeys!

As we enter 2022, we are inviting you to use a theme of journeys in your fanworks this month. Maybe this is Q finally getting a well earned vacation, or what Bond's suitcase looks like when he goes on a mission. Whatever it is, we want to to live vicariously through the characters. Something new!! This year we are adding a subtheme for every month. We are encouraging you to focus on one character and then give us all your recommendations and new creations the last week of the month. Unlike our monthly themes, you can find the complete list of characters for all year in the main post right here. Your character for January is Nomi.

The Adventure Map Returns!

That’s right, after the chaos of LDWS and poetry month, we aren’t letting you rest. It’s time to do choose-your-own-adventure prompt fills! We’ve created a map with multiple paths across to reach your objective. Like last year, you can choose the exact path (and accompanying prompts) in order to reach your goal. Unlike last year, we have some suggested paths based on themes.

Red – Hands-on challenges; Blue – Miscellaneous; Green – Poetry; and Gold – Fic/Art

It's Sp00Qy Season!

We know its your second favourite month of the year. Time for all those spooky, occult, and downright creepy fancreations. We'd love to see you continue the 'all the ladies autumn' theme into this month, but we'll be delighted with anything you give us. And remember, we have an AO3 collection for all of your sp00qy creations too!

In case you haven't been planning all year, here are some prompts to get your imagination started.

It’s “Blast From the Past” January! 

As we enter 2021, we challenge you to explore the backstory of characters in the Bond universe. This could be a glimpse of what they did before we were introduced to them in canon or as far back as their childhood. Whether it’s Moneypenny’s primary school days or Bond at university, we’d love to see your ideas about characters’ pasts! This could take the form of fic, fanart, headcanon, fancraft, fanmix---anything that you enjoy. Make sure to tag #mi6cafechallenge so we can find and reblog!

Aftercare August 

For everyone who participated in 007 Fest, we hope you’ll take this month to have a rest, drink some juice, eat a snack, and catch up on your sleep. Fest drop can be a thing, so take care of yourselves! 

And, when you’re ready, it’s also a lovely time to catch up on some reading and art from your fellow Fest participants and let them know what a good job they did during 007 Fest. August is a great month for commenting, reblogging, or even rec-listing your favorite fancreations that might have gotten lost in July’s flood of content. We’ll be resuming Supportive Sundays as well, and that would be a perfect opportunity to spotlight something you loved.  

 007 Fest Wrap-Up 

Don’t forget to make your 007 Fest master posts! For competing participants, you need those to fill out the 007 Fest Survey, which is how we tally your team’s points. For Civilians, we love seeing your brag sheet anyway, and hope you’ll take the time to give us your feedback! 

You have until August 7th to complete your master post, tally your points, and submit them through the survey. More info on end of fest proceedings can be found here.

If you haven’t volunteered a prize for the 007 Fest prize drawings and you would like to, send us an email at mi6cafemod(at)gmail.com. Prizes can be anything! You can donate a drabble or a sketch, a ficlet or a fanart, a poem or a podfic. You can also donate crafted items such as soap, bags, bookmarks, etc. Or if gift certificates are your thing, we’ve had some of those in the past, too! 

Whatever you can donate, know that any participant would be happy to receive a Fest prize from you <3
