OUT & ABOUT: EQUALITY FLORIDA MIAMI CELEBRATION
By Rafa Carvajal | Photos provided by Equality Florida
Tumblr media
Equality Florida invites everyone to its upcoming Miami Celebration on Saturday, March 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Nobu Eden Roc Miami Beach. Attendees will enjoy an evening of equality support and entertainment with open bars and delicious food. To preview the Celebration, Wire Magazines at down with Miami Development Officer Jonathan Barrio.
Rafa Carvajal: Tell our readers about your upcoming Equality Florida Miami Celebration. Jonathan Barrio: Our upcoming Equality Florida Miami Celebration is our annual event in Miami. It’s a fun, elegant, and engaging cocktail reception featuring leaders of our movement, curated culinary experiences, premium open bars, and some truly fantastic networking opportunities. This year, we’re featuring a lot of fun and special surprises so we hope you can make it!
Tumblr media
RC: Where is it going to be held, and what are the main elements of the event?  JB: This year’s Celebration will be held at the iconic Morris Lapidus designed Nobu Eden Roc Miami Beach hotel. We’re thrilled to be coming back to our home at the Eden Roc for the third year in a row, in their grand ballroom. The main element of this year is banning conversion therapy on a statewide level. We’ll have leaders in that movement present, and an engaging program – with a folk/rock show during the evening.
RC: What are the main goals of the Miami Celebration? JB: Our main goal of the Miami Celebration is to educate and enlighten our guests and ensure they realize the important work being carried out by Equality Florida. This year, one of our top priorities is banning the barbaric practice of conversion therapy on a statewide level. Coming to our event helps fuel our work and advocate for important legislative items to bring full equality to LGBTQ Floridians.
RC: What should attendees expect from the update on equality by Deputy Director Stratton Pollitzer? JB: Attendees can expect an interesting and engaging update from our co-founder and deputy director. Stratton is looking forward to letting our audience know about all the incredible things Equality Florida has recently accomplished and how we are paving the way forward for full LGBTQ inclusion in our community – on a statewide level.
Tumblr media
RC: Who are the special guests being featured at the Miami Celebration? JB: We’re really excited about this one! We’ll be featuring Garrard Conley, author of Boy Erased, which recently became a major motion picture starring Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. We will also have Justin Utley joining us, an award-winning singer/songwriter who has headlined Pride festivals across the country. Justin even performed at the Winter Olympics in his hometown of Salt Lake City.
RC: How can people purchase tickets to the Celebration, and what is the cost? JB: Guests can purchase tickets at eqfl.org/miamicelebration for $125. Tickets will be $150 at the door.
Tumblr media
RC: Why should Wire Magazine readers attend Equality Florida's Miami Celebration? JB: Your readers should attend our Celebration because this is the premier event in our community that highlights the work of your statewide LGBTQ advocacy organization. By supporting us, you are supporting the vision of bringing full equality to LGBTQ Floridians. Partying for a cause has never been better or more fun!
RC: Is there anything else you would like to share with Wire Magazine readers?JB: We look forward to welcoming you to our special evening. Please feel free to contact me personally at [email protected] if you have questions about the event or would like to attend.
