darlington has been left in the dust by literally everyone in his life and either been forced to or chosen to be loyal to them regardless and that's what makes him such a tragic character, he can't help it
his parents who left him because they didn't care about him and just wanted to sell the house, whose murders he still regretted
his grandpa who loved the stupid house and the family name more than him, for whom he endured living there alone for so long
sandow who sent the hellbeast after him, michelle who couldn't bother trying to save him - all symbols of lethe, whose board didn't even want to acknowledge he was gone, and which he still serves as virgil and alex's personal demon
magic itself, which doomed him, almost killed him multiple times, and which he's forever indebted to for saving him
alex herself, who spoke no words of protection and let the hellbeast swallow him, to whom darlington is now tied to forever because get this, she's the only one who chose to be loyal back

Ok im a little ways into hell bent (im listening to the audiobook, Lauren fortgang can choke me) and I’m having a rip roaring time of it so far
🛑!!Spoilers below!!🛑
I am so thrilled that Abel Turner is back on the scene I’m only mad it took this long. I love how salty stern is abt getting ghosted. If darlington wasn’t there I would be all in for stern/turner (sterner?)
There are a LOT of balls in the air with the whole hell heist, new Lethe manager guy (can’t remember the title), eitan (I think that’s how u spell it??), whatever the fuck was going on in the first chapter, a MURDER (gasp) I’m truthfully struggling to keep everything straight but I think that’s pretty standard for where I’m at in the story
I was kinda unenthused when eitan sprang up again but after reading the scene where he’s actually on the page talking I’m intrigued
Miss bardugo literally cannot allow demon darlington on the page without mentioning his erect glowing demonic cock im WHEEZING
That whole scene when Alex sleep walked to black elm…👀 I mean “I have appetites” 👀👀👀 damn bro I’m hungry too
Pammie….bless her. I love that woman. Excited to maybe see her tarot knowledge come into play!! Also mercy and lauren are excellent. Kinda hope mercy and pammie get some bonding time eventually and that we can get to know more abt lauren. Like we know that Alex likes her but we don’t rly know why?? I’m curious
I rly liked that one grey that accidentally stole Alex’s meat suit at the beginning, I thought maybe he was gonna be the new GBF (grey best friend, see Bertram Boyce north) but idk it’s not looking likely at this point
Wondering if tripp helmuth is gonna reappear, I feel like there was maybe the tiniest suggestion in the first book that he might gain some relevance but it truly was tiny
Glad Mercy’s recovery is getting addressed rather than being left as a book 1 plot point, but I should have expected nothing less from Leigh 😤
Michelle alameddine was a little meh to me, but I found anselm intriguing (is that the temp Lethe supervisor’s name idk)
Wow I just checked and I still have 12.5 HOURS to go!! Maybe there’s hope for my little grey dude yet
That’s all for now folks, if I remember I’ll check in after another 4 hours

What is Michelle Alameddine doing in Alex’s dorm with Mercy?!?

since Ninth House was in dual pov with Alex and Darlington, I wonder if Hell Bent will have the same dual pov. and i wonder who will be delivering that second pov. i'm hoping for the most likely candidate which is a Dawes pov, but there is always the chance that Mercy or Michelle will get the second pov.

I'm so pleased that the ending of Ninth House suggests Michelle is going to be a bigger presence in Hell Bent, because I really am curious about her as a character. We don't get much mention of her in Darlington's POV chapters but from what we do get it seems like he respected her as a mentor and still thinks of her fondly. Alex, though, doesn't think she takes the duties of Lethe seriously enough - as seriously as Darlington does. Just from the information we have now, it's hard to tell who's more right. And on top of that, although we don't know all the specifics of how Darlington came to be Michelle's Dante, we do know that Dean Sandow showed up in his hospital room with an offer after his failed attempt to brew an elixir, and that this happened before he actually applied to Yale. It looks like, like Alex, he skipped the usual selection process. So did Michelle ever resent him for that the way he resented Alex? Or was it different because Darlington was a picture-perfect candidate anyway - or because the job didn't have the same meaning to her and she was less invested in making sure the perfect person took it over? I want to know more about what her relationship with Darlington and her relationship with Lethe was like. And while I hesitate to make guesses, she feels to me like a character who could potentially start off helpful but become, not a villain per se, but an antagonist or at least a hindrance.
I leave you all with this meme, because I can't read that last scene without thinking of it:

ninth house/hell bent spoilers (open discussion)
i think we were supposed to feel for michelle alameddine and understand why she didn't want any part in helping get darlington out of hell but there'd always been a tad bit of condescension in the way she spoke of darlington (i think even alex points it out) and his obsession with the arcane, so when she opened up about her scholarship and said she'd struggled with self harm/attempted to kill herself, it all fell so flat for me like... girl
that's why i wanna know what other ninth house/hell bent readers thought of it and of her as a character overall

6/2 Book Deals
Good morning, everyone! Apologies that it’s been a hot minute since I’ve really come on here to make a deals post, things have been crazy and I’ve been up and down mentally so it’s been challenging to get the motivation to do things, but I’m feeling okay today so I figured I should share some of the many awesome books on sale today!
How are you all doing? It’s been a while and a lot has been going on, both in personal lives and in the world around us, and I hope you are all able to take some time to sort of mental relax and find a safe space to reflect and comfort yourselves. :)
There were a lot of books on sale, so I did my best to throw in as many as I could, but obviously it’s not even close to all of them, haha. There’s a nice array of genres and mix of adult and YA, and a couple full trilogies/series! And if you’re a YA fan then definitely take a look because there seemed to be a lot of that today! One of my favorite books is The Crimson Petal and the White, so that’s one I always recommend. I also have read and enjoyed The Hungry Tide, the entire Tade Thompson trilogy (starting with Rosewater!), and I loved The Wicker King!
Anyway, I hope you all have a great day--happy reading! And happy Pride! :)
