Love it when these lists cover movies beyond the obvious classics. I also can't resist adding a few more suggestions: Desk Set is a terrific workplace movie set at this time of year, with a great cast.
Meanwhile, Curse of the Cat People is a psychological fantasy with real pathos and emotional depth. The sequel to Jacques Tourneur's 1942 classic Cat People, its Christmas setting only intensifies its themes of loss, loneliness, and family.
And this is going a bit further forward in film history, but if you like historical settings, zingers, and Katharine Hepburn, then The Lion in Winter (1968) is unmissable. It's Christmas 1183, and the normally imprisoned Eleanor of Aquitaine is released for the festival by her gaoler (and husband) Henry II of England. Well, what family doesn't have its ups and downs?
