Ooo Jango/Mij and Casual “ruffling their hair”
hhh I was really hoping that I'd be able to do full one shots with these, but I suffer from "anything under 900 goes on tumblr."
So, Jango/Mij, some Jango & Spar and Mij & Spar in the background. Grief, secrecy, faked deaths, angst, etc.
Jango has never seen Mij grow his hair out. Even a few years on Kamino, he tends to keep the sides cropped and the waves at the top trimmed around the same length—height, really, since they go almost straight up.
So it’s a surprise when he comes back from Mandalore and finds not just the dark circles under Mij’s eyes that he expected, but his entire head of hair grown out and wild.
A depressive episode, he’s sure. He’d never seen Mij after Tani died, not without his buy’ce on, but he’s sure that was the last time Mij hadn’t kept his hair kept the same length. It makes sense, too, in a way. Even if no one died this time, it almost feels like it, and they’re saying someone did.
There’s no one in the office, when he comes in, so he taps the door panel to make it slide shut before coming over and giving into the urge to thread his fingers through the ginger waves.
Mij leans into it like a tooka, eyes falling shut as he falls back in his chair, into Jango’s space. “You took longer than I expected.”
“Any time at all would be too long for you,” Jango retorts, as gentle as he can.
It’s still not very gentle. He used up all his gentle when he was out.
Mij grumbles under his breath, not arguing but not asking after the cargo Jango transported either.
“It’s all settled,” Jango assures him wryly, knowing he’s not trusting himself enough to ask. “That doctor you mentioned is good. It’s all going to turn out. Flowers were blooming by the time I left.”
It’s not quite code, except that he is talking around the subject. It should be fine, alone in an office behind a well shut door. Mij is always good about sweeping for bugs. But something as sensitive as this shouldn’t be left to chance. Not the risk of one of the clones hearing and certainly not the risk of one of the Kaminiise hearing.
But only he and Mij know how much Spar loves growing things. It’s a safe way to say that the freedom of Mandalore is already doing wonders for what they had all assumed was exceptionally fragile health.
Not that it isn’t, but there’s some care you can’t get on Kamino, and that’s enough.
Mij sighs, finally fully relaxing into Jango’s hands. “Every time I shut my eyes, I could only see everything going wrong.”
Jango snorts, giving Mij’s hair a final ruffle before stepping away. “You worry too much.”
His response is more grumbling.
“I thought I was supposed to be the ornery one,” he comments, dropping onto the cot Mij keeps in his office. It’s rumpled; he’s probably been sleeping here more nights than he’d planned. “Walon taking care of Boba?”
“Mm. He told me not to worry. He’s not taken it well, I think.”
“You should tell him once this whole thing is over.”
Mij kicks at the floor so the seat of his chair comes around. “Why me? You can do it too.”
“Because I know better than to keep something like this from him,” Jango replies pleasantly. Walon wouldn’t really give it away, but Skirata would, and Skirata knows what Walon looks like when he’s grieving and would ask questions. The only reason he cares at all about this is because it was one of Walon’s students—he doesn’t care about the distinction of it being one of his specialist students from the Alpha class—and he’s going to be an ass and needle him about it.
It’s not like any of them are willing to tell him that it was a medical condition. They’re not filling in blanks for anyone, but everyone else who knows was well aware of Spar’s time spent in the infirmary.
If he does it in front of Mij too much, he might get a black eye though.
That’d be fun to watch. How could he set that up…
He looks up at Mij, who’s watching him with open suspicion.
“What are you plotting.”
“Nothing. No plotting.” Yet.
Mij squints at him. He can tell it’s not a lie but he also knows it is one in spirit. He gives up and sighs. “No one to keep you from going stir crazy anymore, I guess,” he gripes.
But he grins for the first time since the decision came down.
“I’ll save getting mad at you until you do it, then.”
“For the best,” Jango chirps. “It really is going to be okay, Mij.”
He sighs and shrugs and runs a hand through his hair, pulling in through the waves with a disgruntled expression. “Yeah, you’re right. The flowers are blooming. And I should really cut my hair.”
Jango laughs.
