The Plaza closed for a week and opened again today. Pathways once blocked to cars and only accessible by foot traffic of those getting to and from work in the plaza are free once more. Instead of the normal empty brick floor of the plaza, there are now booths and food stalls situated around the pond. Different games and activities decorate the area, the smell of food drifting into the air, attracting townspeople from all around.
After a week of preparation, the big day has arrived in Yunhwa. People closing their shops during the lunch hours to congregate at the Plaza, conversing about the events that were about to transcend in mere moments now. Curious patrons walking up to booths to test their luck at guessing the number of chocolates in a jar, or aiming for accuracy at the balloon dart game, many even just opting for the casual games of marbles someone had set up, or the giant jenga pieces laid out on the grass by the Town Hall. Children running around chasing each other as they weaved around the people, none of them knew what was going on but they were just glad to spend the last few days of their break in such a manner.
No matter what everyone is doing, however, the moment everyone heard a horn in the distance, they dropped all of their activities and gathered around the black sedan with tinted windows stopping in front of the Town Hall. The figure who stepped out of the car earned murmurs from the crowd as the townspeople glimpsed the man for the first time. He waves at the people, reaching out to shake some hands, as he walks up the steps of the Town Hall, looking back once more to wave again before disappearing inside. The new Mayor of Yunhwa has arrived.
OOC Note: Hello everyone! This is just a minor event to celebrate the opening of the rp and to thank everyone for joining us. We’re very excited to get things started here and have many things planned down the line. Please treat this event like a casual outdoor picnic for the townspeople as they welcome their new mayor (faceclaim Hwang Inyeop). There are games and activities set up, and many food stalls placed in the vicinity as well. You can write starters until February 28th, 11:59PM EST! We’d love to see what plots you set up, so please tag your threads with #minievent1yh.

it goes without saying that, as the town secretary, jiyeon had played some kind of role in organizing the welcoming event for the new mayor. because of this, it was only natural that she spend more time overseeing the activities as a whole than she did actually participating. nonetheless, with yunhwa being such a small town, jiyeon was bound to stop and chat with familiar faces in the plaza.
“i was planning on just spectating quietly from the sidelines, but this hurts too much to watch.” she teased the younger with an amused grin. “here, let me help.” jiyeon reached out towards the back of eunsang’s hand, gently guiding it over to the side, aiming for a better shot at a balloon. “aaand, go!”

ㅤㅤ.・。.・❀ yunmi had always been the quiet supportive friend, always there to cheer on her friends and family in their endeavors. she was never the type to seek support, however, yet she always accepted it graciously. the young girl wasn’t the type to boast about her achievements or lament about her struggles, but she was always telling people of her appreciation towards them in the smallest of gestures.
sometimes, these gestures do seem to take a toll on her wellbeing, however, as images of horrible things seemed to haunt her the moment the lights turn off all because she wanted to be a good friend. yuna, who was sitting across from her now on the grass as they had chosen a spot far away from the crowd to chat, was always very vocal in her support of yunmi’s business endeavors. the other girl frequented the stall constantly and always seemed to leave with a new item in hand without fail, if she had time she would even wave people over to the stall and convince them wholeheartedly to buy something (unsuccessfully most times, but it’s the thought that counts).
and so when yunmi heard about yuna’s weekly series, she of course wanted to support the other girl by reading it. however, she didn’t realize that the story was horror based until she had finished the first chapter and by then it was too late. each week that a new edition would come out, the other found herself reading it in broad daylight, with the lights on for extra protection, but it still didn’t save her from the images that followed her as she crawled into bed at night.
nightmares and thoughts keeping her from getting sleep had started to affect her physically. her eyes drooping slowly as she tried to listen to the words that yuna was saying to her, her senses dulling as the sounds around became muffled, yet she heard the sound of a question being presented to her and she opens her mouth to respond, ❛ mhmm... ❜ she murmurs softly, ❛ yes, i agree, pigeons should also be given voting rights... ❜ wait- that didn’t sound right? blinking the fatigue out of her eyes slowly, the girl tilts her head up, focusing on the girl in front of her again, gently shaking her head to wake up, ❛ i’m sorry, yuna, i missed the question, could you repeat that again? ❜

❝ yeah, yeah well you're just a mess you do all this big talking so now let's see you walk it. ❞
⋆: ― ∘ ・・ there are big, eye-catching ornaments all over the streets but there’s even more of an evident atmosphere full of joy and excitement the further yunhee ventures into the not-so-small festival. she sees whole families strolling around, kids running ahead while pointing at the stalls and the games. it’s hard to miss the old ladies all gathered in their usual spot and the sight has her wondering why half of them are smiling and the other half are frowning while throwing once overs to every person that passes them by.
it’s amusing, she admits until her eyes land in one of her favorite games, a shooting one she used to play often as a child. without a doubt, yunhee gets in line and allows the energy from the event to infect her. leaving the house after a while to be met with such a festive spirit is something she welcomes, there’s no reason to fight it anyway. childish and nostalgic is the perfect way to describe what she’s feeling as an effortless smile takes over her features when watching other people play and fail most of the time.
when it’s her turn, the old man running the booth shouts the instructions in an attempt to make his voice being heard over the loud music, but yunhee is only able to comprehend that she’s to beat someone to win a prize. the man points to her right and it's only then that she notices him. immediately, a frown replaces the previous joyful expression and she’s almost glaring at jiwon.
“out of everyone available, why did it have to be you? don't you have better things to do than to ruin this, too?”

catch my drift ↪︎— @yhhyejin
the sounds of cheerful chattering, meat grilling and the loud ( old ) pop music filled the plaza’s air, it was always exciting for kangdae attend these events. no matter how years has passed, it reminded him of being a kid, clinging onto his mother’s leg before running to meet with friends in the crowd.
yes a little childish but kangdae was a little childish. though, he was sure the woman beside him could use more of that childhood wonder. they have gotten to know each other in the past few months, the first few car ride attempts were a little odd but now, he considered them friends..right?
right.
“hyejin nonna,” he calls out, nudging the doctor to look towards the giant container of chocolates not far from them. “ do you think i can eat all of those, and not die? i think i can.”
he’s obviously joking, but, there was a part of him that thought maybe he could. yeah maybe. “ but since it’s your first big event at yunhwa, what do you wanna do first, or try some food first there’s tonnn of stands here.”

"i’m determined to win that teddy bear and nobody can stop me!” not like anybody but youngmi was around to begin with, but this would be somin’s third attempt at trying to hit the balloons with the darts, and she was slowly growing frustrated. technically, she could buy a hundred teddy bears of the same kind if she wanted to—not like she didn’t have the money—but there was a satisfaction in knowing that she could win it instead. she’s never actually been to an event like this one, and she almost felt bad for having dragged youngmi with her.
while her time at yunhwa would be limited, or so she hopes, somin couldn’t deny that she’d been enjoying her time here. it had given her the opportunity to live life like a normal young adult instead of the soon-to-be-ceo of a big company. her spending any time at the plaza was proof of that. “do you have any luck with darts? because i feel like i’m going to be here all night if i have to do this alone.”

it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to jiyeon that running into yuna was going to evoke some form of excitement at one point or another. while she’d come to value the other as a friend to sit in tranquil quiet with, there were a handful of moments that truly kept jiyeon on her toes. attending this event today, the last thing the secretary planned to do was play tag. and while she initially joined to humor the children, jiyeon certainly didn’t believed that she’d be needing to humor yuna, too. “i can’t run in these heels, you know. and if these stockings get a run in them, you owe me a whole new pack, go yuna.”

jiyeon had to admit that the food stalls available were quite impressive. despite this, there were a few that failed to draw as much of a crowd as others. “it would be such a shame for them to go unnoticed.” she murmured to herself, pondering on a solution for just a moment. taking the time to survey the crowd, jiyeon decided to approach an unfamiliar face who appeared to be browsing through the stalls on their own.
“good afternoon! might i suggest sampling one of the snacks here. they’re considered one of yunhwa’s signature delicacies.”

it was a busy, busy day and jiyeon’s schedule was packed to the brim. however, this wasn’t anything new. it was just another day in yunhwa! the only difference being the many additional festivities, people, and crowds...nothing she couldn’t handle, though! after a quick briefing with the town’s new mayor, following the brief appearance he’d made for all the citizens and visitors present, she’d barely made it in time to meet up with yunmi for their promised jenga game. her breaths were heavy from the running, but jiyeon did her best to suppress the sound.
“yunmi!” she called out with a quick wave of her hand. “i’m so sorry i’m late! i hope you weren’t waiting on me for too long.”
