I’ve been binging Death Note lately because I re-watch the show at least once a year and I have an idea I would love for someone to write:
 - L is out there being the world’s best detective as usual and every few months he pops into Wammy’s (via camera or in person if you want to take some liberties), checking in on his students and successor’s when he notices a new face in the background and asks Watari and Roger who this man is.
 - It’s Light, of course, who is the new teacher at Wammy’s, teaching the kids about the legal system or how to manipulate or any of his other special/psychotic interests
 - He’s the youngest teacher ever at Wammy’s and L is curious about this young man who is shaping the lives and minds of L’s successors. Light was a promising student in Japan, why seclude himself with a bunch of kids half his age?
 - Cue L popping in - maybe the kids know who he is, or maybe they just think he’s some potential new teacher for a week or two - because he really should be checking in on the kids carrying on his legacy and not because the new teacher is kind of cute, not that at all
 - Light is well liked by the kids (because before he got the Death Note, he was a pretty likeable guy), who are eager to show him their accomplishments and discuss books with him
 - Near allows Light to come play with his blocks sometimes and the two discuss any current cases in the news
 - Mello gets jealous with Light spending more time with Near, but the two of them have long conversations about morals and justice and when do means justify the ends
 - Matt and Light bond over new technology and even some computer games on the weekend
 - There’s so much room for other characters
 - Misa is at Wammy’s, not as a teacher, but as a counselor and positive and bubbly presence for the kids to talk with and not be judged. She’s there to ensure there’s not another A situation and to give these geniuses someone warm and gentle and who sees them for more than their intellect. She encourages other interests - music, acting, fashion, traveling - and helps the kids find hobbies that bring them joy. She and Linda bond over art (Misa’s love for singing and Linda’s love of drawing).
 - Mikami can be like the treasurer of Wammy’s, who was also a strange child who was shunned by others, so he is a good presence to the stranger kids. Or maybe he’s seriously crushing on Light and there to antagonize L
 - Maybe Ryuk is there after having dropped another notebook and there’s nothing more entertaining than Mello losing his shit with Near. Or maybe he’s just a weird ass janitor who the kids are afraid of but also think he’s funny
 - Rem is a gardener who is secretly crushing on Misa.
 - The more time L spends at Wammy’s, the more he realizes he was affected by A’s suicide and keeps these kids at a distance out of fear he will put too much pressure on them, but seeing people like Light and Misa (and Ryuk and Mikami to a lesser extent) caring for them gives him hope.
 - Light admitting that the stress of being a perfect student and perfect son and having all these heavy expectations weighed on him, so he ran away to help kids in the same position so they could realize they are more than their skills and intelligence
 - L and Light bonding over being geniuses and falling in love and learning to properly care for a dozen geniuses in the making.
