STUART, Fla. (AP) — A judge accepted a plea deal Monday for a man who randomly killed a Florida couple in their garage six years ago and then chewed on one victim’s face that will send him to a mental hospital for treatment.
Austin Harrouff, 25, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to two counts of first-degree murder and other charges for the 2016 slayings of John Stevens, 59, and his wife, Michelle Mishcon Stevens, 53.
The agreement worked out between the defense and prosecution avoids a trial that had been scheduled to start Monday before Circuit Judge Sherwood Bauer and had been expected to last three weeks.
Harrouff will be committed to a secure mental health facility until doctors and a judge agree that he is no longer dangerous. If the trial had gone forward, Harrouff could have faced life in prison.
A number of family members of the slain couple expressed anger at the decision and made victim impact statements directed at Harrouff, his family, the defense team and prosecutors.
The judge said Harrouff will remain in the Martin County Jail until he is taken to a secure mental health facility monitored by the Florida Department of Children and Families. Bauer said he will not be allowed to leave the facility without a court order.

Who is Austin Harrouff ( ‘Florida face-biter’ who killed 2 avoids jail ) Wiki, Bio, Age, Crime, Arrest, Incident Details, Investigations and More Facts

Austin Harrouff Biography                                                  Austin Harrouff Wiki
A former student who killed 2 strangers and ripped off one of their faces is committed to a mental institution after a judge accepted his plea of not guilty by insanity.
Austin Harrouff has been charged in the 2016 murders of John Stevens, 59, and Michelle Mishcon Stevens, 53, in their Florida garage. He also injured a third neighbor who tried to intervene. After a tense hearing, during which family members of the victims expressed frustration with prosecutors and the justice system, Judge Sherwood sentenced Bauer Harrouff to treatment in a secure mental institution. "It's a sad case, it's a terrible case, but nobody loses sight of the dead and injured," said Bauer. But family members have expressed frustration that Harrouff has avoided a trial and does not face jail time for the murders. Mason Mishcon, Michelle's brother, addressed Harrouff directly in his victim impact statement, calling him a "top notch bastard." "It seems like no one really cares that Michelle and John are dead — not their parents, not the defense, the county, the state, everyone just wants it over with so Austin can pat himself on the back wrist and can go home and walk the rest of his life," Mishcon said in court. From Post 2017 archives: On anniversary of Austin Harrouff slayings, father’s death haunts son https://t.co/800mfQ6CBK — The Palm Beach Post (@pbpost) November 28, 2022 Cindy Mishcon, Michelle's sister, read some of the contents of text messages from Harrouff received by prosecutors in court. In the posts, Harrouff admits to abusing drugs and alcohol, driving drunk and high, and passing out frequently. "Is it really that hard for you to understand that you are a cold-blooded killer and not a victim?" Churches. But Judge Bauer said there was little he could do after prosecution and defense psychiatrists reached the same conclusions. "In this particular case, three doctors have established insanity." The attack came after Harrouff stormed off in anger while dining with his parents at Duffy's Sports Grill in Jupiter, Florida in August 2016.
Security Footage
Security footage from the restaurant shows Harrouff quietly leaving about 45 minutes before the attack. But after he left, Harrouff's mother called 911 and alerted authorities that her son was acting delusional. Harrouff claimed he ran away from a demon named "Daniel". She ran away from the illusion, stripping off most of her clothes and somehow ending up in Stevens' garage, where she drank some chemicals they had stored. By the time police arrived at the scene, Harrouff had killed the couple with tools he found in the garage and bit off parts of John Stevens' face. It took several shots with a stun gun and a police dog to get Harrouff away from the victim. First responders then treated Harrouff, who nearly died from chemical burns to his esophagus and stomach. Harouff was then a 19-year-old bodybuilder and majoring in exercise science from Florida State University. He claimed not to be under the influence of steroids or hallucinogenic drugs. A toxicology report confirmed he was not under the influence of drugs like bath salts that have caused similar psychotic episodes. Psychiatrists concluded that Harrouff suffered an acute psychotic episode during the attack. "The fact that Mr. Harrouff continued to bite the male victim in the presence of police officers, despite threats of being shot in the head with gunshots, electric shocks and repeated kicks, suggests that Mr. Harrouff was actively psychotic," wrote Dr. Phillip Resnick. in a report by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Resnick also discovered that he suffered from "clinical delusions of lycanthropy" - or that he believed he was a werewolf. Harrouff was also recognized by famed television psychologist Phil McGraw for his show Dr. Phil” interviewed. The court initially prevented the episode from airing, but prosecutors later released the episode. dr Phil interviewed Harrouff over a video call. Harrouff said he couldn't remember how he ended up in the Stevens' garage or why he attacked the pair and just grabbed a machete when Michelle Stevens screamed. "It's like it happened, but I wasn't aware of it at the time," she told the TV therapist. "If I knew, I would tell you." Read the full article

Fintech Owner Linked to Drug Kingpins Faces Belgian Trial
Tumblr media
A London-based fintech owner accused of helping drug traffickers launder hundreds of millions of euros through a crypto exchange platform must be extradited to Belgium to face criminal charges, a London judge ruled.
Caio Marchesani, who owns Trans-Fast Remittance a payments business regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, is alleged to have hoarded vast amounts of cash for Sergio Roberto De Carvalho, a Brazilian described by Interpol as one of the world’s most wanted kingpins before his arrest in 2022.
A fintech owner in London is facing allegations that he helped notorious drug traffickers attempt to launder hundreds of millions of euros through a crypto exchange platform on a scale rarely seen by European prosecutors.
Authorities in Belgium are seeking the extradition of Caio Marchesani from the UK as part of their effort to dismantle a transnational gang. They accuse the 38-year-old Italian of “knowingly and intentionally” hoarding piles of cash for Sergio Roberto De Carvalho, a Brazilian described by Interpol as one of the world’s most wanted kingpins before his arrest in 2022.
A London-based fintech owner accused of helping drug traffickers launder hundreds of millions of euros through a crypto exchange platform must be extradited to Belgium to face criminal charges, a London judge ruled.
Caio Marchesani, who owns Trans-Fast Remittance, a payments business regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, is alleged to have accepted cryptocurrency from the criminal organisation of Flor Bressers, a Belgian national known as the “finger cutter.”  Belgian prosecutors claim the cryptocurrency was used to pay for cocaine. Marchesani, who was arrested at Heathrow Airport in May, will have seven days to appeal against the order, a London judge said on Tuesday approving his removal.
Marchesani’s lawyer and the prosecution declined to comment immediately after the Tuesday ruling.
The prosecution’s case has “false, vague, ambiguous or inaccurate particulars,” his lawyers at law firm Mishcon de Reya previously said. “What is clear however, is that none of the allegations against him relate to any of his business interests in the UK.”
The efforts to extradite Marchesani is part of a broader investigation that kicked off three years ago after the Dutch government seized more than 12 tonnes of cocaine, worth more than €260 million ($278 million) at Europe’s busiest port, Rotterdam.
Authorities traced the haul to Bressers and De Carvalho, later zeroing in on Marchesani after a breakthrough in decoding encrypted communications. “He is a dark banker who receives money and moves it around at the will of the criminal organization in order to disguise its origins,” the prosecutors acting for the Belgian authorities alleged at an earlier hearing.
A trial of 30 defendants in the case, including Bressers, started in Belgium earlier this month but was immediately postponed, according to local press reports.
A pre-recorded message left by Trans-Fast’s when contacted by phone said the payment service is currently offline and it aims to restart services soon. Companies House filings from August show another owner has been added to the registry.

The British law firm that represented Diana, Princess of Wales, is now going after OneCoin masterminds. Mishcon de Reya, a London-headquartered international law firm, is about to file a class-action lawsuit on behalf of OneCoin investors who suffered losses as a result of the crypto fraud. In a press release published on Monday, Sept. 25, the firm said that a civil claim would be brought in London’s High Court in an effort to “recover for investors the losses they suffered at the hands of those who perpetrated the fraud.” Mishcon noted the case would be brought on a “no win, no fee” basis, which means the firm gets paid only if it achieves a satisfactory result. “The fraudulent OneCoin scheme concocted by Ruja Ignatova and others greatly impacted the lives of its victims who ranged from sophisticated to lay investors. The forthcoming claim in the High Court in London aims to achieve at least partial redress for those investors who were taken in by the deception and who suffered losses as a result.” Rhymal Persad, Partner at Mishcon de Reya At the time of writing, the claim is only in the “building” stage. This means victims of the OneCoin fraud are yet to form part of the claimant group. Mishcon noted that the claim would be funded by a “respected third party litigation funder.” The British firm didn’t name the third party, which is willing to cover legal fees and other costs of the proceedings. As crypto.news earlier reported, OneCoin generated revenues of €4 billion euros ($4.3 billion) and profits amounting to €2.7 billion euros ($2.93 billion) from 2014 to 2016. The operation utilized a multi-level marketing strategy, offering lucrative commissions to people around the world to enlist others into purchasing OneCoin packages. On Sept. 12, Karl Sebastian Greenwood, one of the key architects behind OneCoin, was handed a 20-year prison sentence. The ruling was issued in a New York court following Greenwood’s December admission of guilt in fabricating and promoting the fake digital currency. Founded in 1937, Mishcon de Reya is best known as the firm that represented Diana, Princess of Wales, in her divorce from the Prince of Wale in 1996. The law firm also formed The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund after her death. Source

Austin Harrouff Sentenced To Psych Ward Following Plea Deal
Effin’ Florida: Judge Sentences Murderous Face-Eating Cannibal To Pysch Ward, Family Pissed ‘Rich White Boy Justice’
Posted on December 1, 2022 - ByJason "Jah" Lee

Florida never calls in sick when it comes to f***ery and shenanigans and this story is yet another shining example of their dedication to the bulls**t.
According to DailyMail, a Florida family is outraged by the sentence that a killer received for the death of 59-year-old John Stevens and his 53-year-old wife Michelle Mischon Stevens back in 2016. 25-year-old Austin Harrouff killed the couple and chewed their faces off in a gruesome display of cannibalism.
Instead of being sent to prison for God-only-knows-how-long, Harrouff was sent to a psychiatric ward as the court accepted a plea deal that found him not guilty by reason of insanity.
The deceased’s family is pissed, to say the least, and they are not biting their tongues about it…
Michelle’s sister Cindy Mischon said of the verdict: “Here we are opening the prison doors for a double murderer.”
Four words come to mind. White, rich boy justice.
Harrouff was 16 years old when he was found in the victims’ garage eating their faces after hacking them to death with machetes. Let him tell it, he doesn’t remember killing the couple but said that God and demons were speaking to him while committing the act. Funny how that works…
” didn’t really know you could brutally murder two people, attempt to kill another, and not even have a trial,’ Jodi Bruce, another sister of Mishcon, said. ‘That was news to me.”
We’re not doctors and we’re not qualified to speak to this monster’s mental state but a crime so brutal and devastating to the family should garner more consequence than a psych ward.

Cas Uses Dean as a Vessel - Part 6
I have a nasty cold at the moment so we’re going for my comfort trope
No One Gets Left Behind by CosmicStardustCastiel (Crossroads_Castiel)   Ao3
Set S12.  An encounter with the BMoL has left Cas’ vessel fatally damaged, but Dean isn’t prepared to let Cas die so he offers himself as a vessel while they figure out how to fix things.  Something that Mary, still distrustful of supernatural creatures doesn’t like.  Even Sam is not keen on them sharing space.  Meanwhile, the closer contact has Dean and Cas sorting things out between them.

Set 15x20 didn’t happen AU.  When he dies, Dean goes to the empty to find Cas.  With Cas’ vessel destroyed the only way he can get out is by possessing Dean, which is a good thing in Dean’s books.  Its not how he thought he would have Cas, but its worth it.

Revealed: Law firms’ average start work and finish times 2021-22
Legal Cheek exclusive research shows how the average working hours for junior lawyers have fared in the face of changing work arrangements
Image via Unsplash
Legal Cheek research has provided an exclusive insight into the average start work and finish times for trainees and junior associates across 100 law firms in London and the UK.
Despite lawyers spending more time at home and less time tackling the daily commute, the survey responses of over 2,500 junior lawyers taken earlier this year, show that the move to remote-working has only served to ramp up the already lengthy working hours for rookies at elite City firms.
As we revealed earlier this week, junior lawyers at Kirkland & Ellis racked up the longest average working day by quite some distance, typically starting at 9:14am and finishing at around 11:28pm. This marks a significant increase on the 9:46pm average finish time recorded by the firm in last year’s survey.
Kirkland is joined in the top three spots by other US powerhouses in London. Ropes & Gray recorded the second latest average finish time of 10:51pm, followed by Weil in third place, where the average finish is at 10:17pm.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the other end of the list is largely populated by national firms, headquartered outside of London. Fletchers boasts the earliest average finish time, with junior lawyers usually signed off by 5:38pm. HCR Hewitsons has the second average earliest finish time at 5:43pm, five minutes later than their Fletchers counterparts, and in third place Thrings at 5:45pm.
So how does your firm fare? The full list of results, ranked from latest to earliest average finish times, can be found below. These timings will, of course, fluctuate according to which department juniors are working in, billing targets or the ebb and flow of a deal. Note also the start times which vary widely.

The 2022 Firms Most List – featuring the Legal Cheek Survey results in full
As part of the survey we also received hundreds of anonymous comments from junior lawyers about their working hours. Here are a selection of quotes from US firm and magic circle rookies.
“Pre-covid, while there were of course busy periods, I would generally log off and leave the office between 7-9pm, and weekend working was a rarity. Now, finishing work before midnight is unheard of during the week, and weekend working is a regular occurrence.”
“[There is] lots of talk about the need to switch off when working from home, but this doesn’t really happen in practice. It’s become the norm that I will take a short break for dinner but feel compelled to log back on right up until I go to bed.”
“When things are busy, or you’re on a deal, you’re effectively on call the whole time including weekends. There are periods of downtime which helps. There are no typical working hours as such but depends on the team.”
But it’s not all doom and gloom, as juniors at some of the other firms felt that hours were more fairly balanced.
“No one goes into law expecting a 9 to 5. The more senior lawyers are very respectful of your social life. If you flag that you have an engagement, they’ll do their best not to bother you.”
“Work/life balance is a real priority for the firm and I have never been made to feel that I had to work late to ‘prove myself’.”
We put the results of the survey to LawCare, the mental health and wellbeing charity for lawyers. Its chief executive, Elizabeth Rimmer, commented:
“We’re disappointed to see that junior lawyers are working longer and longer hours, with many finding that working from home means they never really finish work for the day. Our recent Life in the Law research showed a direct correlation between work intensity and burnout, with the highest burnout scores found in younger legal professionals.
“It is dangerous to work the junior end of the profession into the ground for a variety of reasons; it affects the individual themselves, it increases the risk of mistakes being made, and young people won’t want to come and work in a profession that doesn’t value their wellbeing. This really shows why we need a culture change in the law, your performance should not solely be based on the hours you bill and we should be putting people first.”

Harry and Meghan could face fight to protect ‘Sussex Royal’ brand –  Pair may have to file objection after EU trademark application is apparently made from Italy
Ben Quinn
 @BenQuinn75
Sat 11 Jan 2020 10.42 GMTFirst published on Sat 11 Jan 2020 09.37 GMT
Tumblr media
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex face having to potentially make an objection to protect their would-be brand “Sussex Royal” after
an application was lodged with EU authorities
to trademark a range of goods including beer and jewellery.
In what may be the latest attempt to either squat on or protect the couple’s brand, it was lodged on Thursday by an applicant who appears to be based in Italy and filed it in German, with English listed as a second language. Database searches suggest it was made in the name of Ui Phoenix Kerbl, possibly after the Guardian reported on Thursday that the Sussexes had yet to register their brand outside of the UK.
Six categories of goods and services were listed – covering areas including toiletries, sporting goods, toys and alcoholic beverages – in the application to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
An examination process by EUIPO officials will begin, which may involve them raising concerns, but if no objection is raised then the trademark will be published in 23 EU languages. There are also fees – €850 for one class of trademark and payable online – that will have to be paid.
From the date of publication onwards, third parties who believe that the trademark should not be registered have three months to object and must oppose the trademark by filling in a form and paying a fee of €320. One in five applications for EU trademarks are opposed by the owners of trademarks that are already on the market.
The development comes after applications to trademark the royal couple’s brand “Sussex Royal” for a range of goods and activities were lodged with UK intellectual property authorities last June by their advisers Natalie Campbell and Sara Latham. Ownership was switched to the couple in December.
Before the latest apparent attempt to squat on their brand, the couple were reminded of the risks they could face by a failed attempt in the UK last April to trademark hundreds of items from adhesive bras to energy drinks in the name of “Sussex Royal”.
The application, which came from Malta in the name of John Burnett, appears to have been an attempt to squat on the couple’s name but fell foul of the special protection that “Royal” has in UK intellectual property law.
Sally Britton, a partner at the law firm Mishcon de Reya and an expert on intellectual property law, said the EU trademark development illustrated the importance of brand protection for the Sussexes.
“They clearly have a successful brand. The question is whether the Queen will permit them to continue to use ‘royal’ and the crown in their logo or if they intend to attempt to continue use it internationally regardless of her wishes. There could be a rebrand for the Sussexes but they could also create a very interesting development regarding the future role of the monarchy and its funding.”
so, if they have to fight off enough interlopers/squatters wanting to trademark a name/title they want to use for themselves, that would be expensive, time-consuming, and distracting for them….GOOD!!!
This will all be shut down.......thank you😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
