Text
something something modern au in which you’re hired to clean genius shut-in ei’s lab after she was finally coaxed outside by miko. stumbling upon the room where she’s been working on a special project: creating an android in the likeness of her late sister. she’s very pretty, almost an exact copy of ei herself. you take care not to disturb anything while you clean, but somehow you manage to stumble upon a hidden hall tucked away behind a bookshelf. following it, you’re led to a door at the very end. it’s something straight out of a sci-fi film—industrial metal sturdy enough to withstand even the strongest of attacks. you peer through the small window set into it and find what looks to be the interior of a second, albeit smaller, lab. and positioned in the center, strung up with complex wiring systems and circuitry, seemingly locked in permanent slumber, is another android.
curiously, you rap your knuckles against the glass. nothing happens. it’s somewhat anticlimactic. with a sigh, you step away from the secret space and make your way back through the hall, where you then slide the bookshelf back to its original position. you miss the way a pair of bright indigo eyes snap open after your departure, sliding ominously towards the door.
since then, strange things have started happening in the lab. the power flickers on and off, oddly faulty. sometimes the lights are out for abnormal periods of time, and you have no choice but to search blindly through the dark for the generator. either that, or you stumble along with your flashlight.
sometimes you think you hear banging behind the bookshelf. at first, it was loud slams—as if someone was pounding their fists against it out of some indescribable rage. you woke to the booming noise late at night, yanked right out of a good dream. you couldn’t tell if the sounds had been real or still part of your fading dream. it’s always quiet in ei’s home, even more so in her lab, so it’s very unsettling to hear such sounds.
but soon you’ll finish cleaning the entire place and then you can collect your pay and leave.
surely you’ll be able to do that, right?
the next time curiosity grips you by the throat and you find yourself traveling down the secret hall again, it’s to discover a startling sight. the door has been forced open, nearly blown off its hinges, and the wiring systems have been snapped and tangled. broken circuitry crackles with live sparks. something—the android that was once housed here—has escaped.
and you have no idea where he could be. just when you think you ought to search for him, the lights go out, bathing the room in pitch-black.
you have the strangest feeling then. a feeling that you’re not alone. that something is in the lab with you.
indigo eyes blink back at you in the dark, and you have no idea.
