CONTEXTUAL STATEMENT

“Missing Thoughts” is art form of thoughts and opinion gathered in a way, which causes understanding of the voices lost in the search of the missing Malaysian Airline MH370. It is a collection of 96 comments/opinions from major news outlets in a sequential order and method, which than got exacted using key numbers and words such as I, me or myself. After the collection of data, Ideas and inspirations were researched in order to find the most practical and most visually appealing way of displaying this information.

The project in relation to the studio place is that the idea of the Malaysian Airline being misplaced in the 21 century with no clues of its placement. Also the idea of the place of the airline being important because of the lives that was inside the aircraft. The idea behind the placement of everything in the art installation is that the simple setup has the answers to the questions asked which is right in front but we are to blind to see it. Also giving the idea of memorial black boards gives the place an emotion of going to a funeral of people lost. Black tablet, headphones and instructions are placed on the table in relation to “Missing Thoughts”. Throughout this semester I have understood the concept of development in order to take an idea to a new understanding and level of thinking outside the box. Which is shown through my blog, documentation and final outcome.

I initially researched the topic that I felt really needed a voice, collecting data and information. Secondly, researched ways to display this information in a visually appealing manner by looking at info-graphics, data influenced artist and many forms of data presentation. While researching I came across soundwaves which I felt had a major influence because of an artist called Gilles Azzaro. Azzaro is a French digital artist who is a voice sculptor. Creating sculptures of soundwaves of thoughts and words of influential people (Azzaro, 2014). In accordance to todays influences and artist my art installation would be greatly influenced by Bill Viola a video artistry who in interested in emotion, sound, electronic and video creating a mood and feeling through video. A work of his called Observance (2002) relates to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, using facial expressions to show grief and feeling.

Another artist called Ai Weiwei, is a Chinese political artist which uses installations, sculpturing and other media to create and ‘expose’ the government and other political issues. Weiwei is a very influential artist because of his powerful way of not hiding the truth and educating his people of China (Ai Weiwei, 2012). Throughout this process I learnt many thing such as the skill of development, importance of time management, learning from others and taking feedback and implementing certain parts. Through this process I have learnt another two software’s, which I felt, was a big achievement. In the future, I would like to create a similar installation but in a larger scale.
