Roundup of the backlog...
I realized I watched more stuff than I even can keep up with writing about. So let's do a speedrun...
given ("Can't Say Goodbye, I'm Still Drifting With Your Echoes")
Tumblr media
So, I got into this one because it was about musicians and being in a band. It also seems to be a boy-on-boy love story... as such, I don't mind. The characters are all drawing me into the story. And as a musician I can't resist the loving attention to detail - as an aspiring guitarist you could learn some things from this show. I certainly didn't know more than this as a teenager myself...
I'm just a few episodes in, and I like what I see.
TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You
Tumblr media
An unlikely beginning - a boy promises a girl to marry her. Once he's of age, she shows up on his doorstep, ready to go. From this premise unfolds an incredibly cute story of two people figuring out life and romance together. She's probably a legendary character from a Japanese story, too. These blushing newlyweds are simply adorable.
Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro
Tumblr media
A loner artist second year runs into a gaggle of trendy first year girls - and one just won't leave him alone. I gave it a chance because I was curious, and I don't regret it. Frankly, what happens in the first episodes would probably count as bullying, but very soon it becomes clear that there is something between especially these two characters, and Nagatori-san is not nearly as cool or experienced as she wants her Senpai to believe. Over time he also becomes friends with the whole gaggle. The show is changing from funny to cringe to adorably cute constantly. It's certainly entertaining.
My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999
Tumblr media
Girls gets dumped for another girl, gets drunk, runs into young hot dude (who doesn't say much) and realizes he's the popular streamer her ex adores. Ends up passing out on his bed, too. She joins the MMO where he hangs out with his friends. Initially a very one-sided crush, but as the cast expands it becomes a rather chill and nice story about misunderstandings and friendship, plus a slow-burn romance. Airs on Crunchyroll once a week - and I find I look forward to every episode.
Tomo-chan Is a Girl!
Tumblr media
Oh, I'm definitely sold on this one! Tomo is a high school girl that confesses to her childhood friend, except he doesn't seem to understand and only see her as his best friend. Over time both cast and backstory expand so by the end of the series you will understand why things ended up this way. Very satisfying, doesn't overstay its welcome, supposedly better paced than the original web manga. Wraps up in a single season.
First show where I recognized a Japanese voice actress again. The boyish Tomo has the same one as the not-very-girlish Anzu from Romantic Killer. Just listen when she is surprised or weirded out - you can't miss it.
Skip and Loafer
Tumblr media
Very nice coming-of-age story, airs weekly. Girl from remote rural community joins Tokyo high school to realize her ambitious plan to become a public servant. Ends up being friends with laid-back guy whom all girls adore. Frankly the first episode is some of the best-paced funny stuff I've ever seen. The show then grows its cast organically and settles into high school life, plus it's a love story, of course, but not in a hurry.
Waiting for the next episode is hard...
To Every You I've Loved Before
Without knowing I watched a sequel! A very satisfying story on its own, this one is about parallel worlds and how we constantly skip between them. A boy is the son of the guy who's researching how choices create parallel worlds, and the first major branch in his life is when his parents divorce. Continuously throughout his life he is confronted with the impact of his choices as his life unfolds together with a girl that he ends up marrying and growing old with.
A story about love, loss, choices, grief, happiness... Very satisfying, told at the right pace, always engaging, and not afraid to go in a new direction even in its last half hour.
As I said - the story of a boy who makes a choice. But guess what? There's another movie, "To me, the one who loved you". Telling the story of the same boy, but making the other choice. I haven't watched it yet. Maybe I have spoilered myself by doing this in the wrong order. But even if only this movie existed, I would have been very happy with it. Fun detail: It may be sixty years into the future with pocket watches that measure parallel universe shifts and holograms everywhere, but apparently people still do the thing where they wear "belly pouches" diagonally over their chest. I guess they didn't make up a "future look" for all the filler pedestrians...
Alya sometimes hides her feelings in Russian
This was a chance buy - it's a light novel series. High schooler sits next to very pretty "solitary princess" - the platinum blonde Alya who's half-Russian. And sometimes she says the most outrageous things to him, thinking he does not understand - yet he does.
First novel was rather good, but then you can tell the author tries to drag it out. Protagonist ends up knowing all the most pretty and popular girls in his elite academy... yawn. Still, the story is at times rather charming and funny. Too bad it tries to keep the cat in the bag - it didn't have enough substance for what we're getting. Stuffed to the hilt with light novel tropes... she's probably secretly his childhood love he got separated from and learned Russian for in the first place, his sister has the hots for him (they grew up separate after some family fallout), student council this and that, let's obsess about girl's exact bust size, hints of harem, the works... and the artwork does not do a good job of keeping some of the girls apart except for the title heroine. Also, outrageously dumb hypnosis scene?
Still, the author can write and largely delivers an entertaining story with that nice little twist. I started disliking the protagonist because of his habit to prank Alya... not charming. Usually he's a very upright and forthright guy, and completely oblivious of his feelings for Alya.
Not exactly recommended, but readable.

FORZA HORIZON 5 - REVIEW ROUNDUP!
Your ultimate Horizon adventure awaits next Tuesday 9th November! Of course if you’re a Forza fan, you bloody well knew that. After all, this series and anything new that’s linked with it, needs absolutely zero introduction.
But those of you perhaps a little more hesitant about the “vibrant and ever-evolving open world landscapes of Mexico with limitless, fun driving action in hundreds of the world’s greatest cars...” (weird but okay) then we have you covered!
Take a look below at what the big names are saying on this (likely) best entry in the Forza franchise yet!
 IGN - 10/10
“Forza Horizon 5 is a deep and nuanced car nirvana for revheads and auto geeks to endlessly collect, tinker, and experiment. It’s also an extremely accessible buffet of racing spectacle open to everyone, from Deluxe Edition diehards to Game Pass nomads – no matter their driving skill or mechanical knowledge. It’s an occasionally goofy but always earnest Valentine to Mexico’s world-famous culture, and a romantic ode to the magic of road-tripping through postcard-perfect vacation vistas. It’s a long haul, MMO-inspired racer that’s exploding with more races, activities, and event types than can comfortably fit on some parts of the map – and yet it still always feels relaxed rather than daunting. It never locks you into something you don’t want to do and steadily rewards you for however you choose to play it. It looks beautiful, it sounds magnificent, and it is glorious to play. Yes, Forza Horizon 5 is a lot of things. Above all, however, it is the result of a racing studio at the peak of its craft and the best open-world racing game I’ve ever played.”
GodIsAGeek - 10/10
“Forza Horizon 5 has it all. Loads of cars to choose from, endless races and challenges, a map ripe for exploration, and magnificent visuals. Whether you want to track down Barn Finds, cruise around and listen to the amazing soundtrack across the various radio stations, or play through the story, Mexico is your oyster. There’s so much content for you to get stuck into that you’ll never be lost for something to do. There’s no doubt I’ve missed something out here, but that’s because there’s far too much to ever mention in one review. My advice? Get this game. You won’t regret it.”
GameInformer - 9.5/10
“At every turn, Forza Horizon 5 impresses in ways few games have. From the first mile, I was on the edge of my seat. With so much to do in such a relentlessly gorgeous world, I suspect it won’t be long before I get the itch to jump back into the driver’s seat of my favorite car. Even amidst a competitive racing field, Forza Horizon 5 is a finely tuned supercar. [...]  Forza Horizon 5 delivers a well-rounded, exciting, and approachable experience, and in doing so, elevates its status to the elite of the racing genre.”
Tumblr media
GameRevolution - 9.5/10
“Forza Horizon 5 is the best Forza yet and, not only that, but it also makes a strong case for being the best racing game period. A joyous combo of arcade racing and simulation-level depth, all wrapped up in a beautiful bow thanks to its diverse, expansive Mexico setting, this is an unmissable iteration in what is arguably gaming’s most consistently fantastic series.”
GamesRadar - 5/5
“The expansive new setting of Mexico really does have so much to offer, and longtime players and newcomers alike are sure to have a blast discovering everything you can get stuck into. I've lost count of the number of races I sped my way through that I immediately wanted to experience all over again. As another fantastic entry in what is already a very strong series, Playground Games delivers impeccably detailed graphics, stellar audio design, and smooth controls that all work together to make Forza Horizon 5 an utter joy to play. I'm already itching to get right back into the driver's seat.”
Gamespot - 9/10
“In this way, Forza Horizon 5 is another meaningful evolution of the series as opposed to a reinvention, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a case of more of the same. Even when it is familiar, Forza Horizon 5 makes small, but thoughtful changes to its established blueprint that hones in on the people behind the cars in a way that the franchise has previously just glossed over. Its alterations to progression are welcome, too, letting you focus on the events that you love while also giving you even more event types to make effective use of the varied and fun map that has been designed around Mexico's best hits. It's not going to convince you to give it a go if Forza Horizon's brand of racing hasn't done it for you in the past, but Forza Horizon 5 still stands head and shoulders above anything else in the genre.”
Enough said. Hop in and see for yourself that this one is an essential drive!
You can pre-order with us right here on Xbox Series X at The Game Collection.

Annual Roundup of Video Games
First Annual mini review of games I played in 2019. As always, if you want more babble about a game, I will happily vomit words in your direction :D
Borderlands 2
Another co-op game that boything and I dabbled in but didn't get super far. Enjoyable enough to play, the FoV felt a little cramped, but amusing characters that get you through the content.
Division 2
Tumblr media
Another fun story driven open world romp. The first game dealt with the immediate aftermath of the Dollar Flu rampaging through New York, and the 2nd game was several months after and people are trying to pull the pieces back together, except the government is in shambles and every faction within DC wants to be a big dog. Perfect for single player, even better in co-op. Lots of collectables and lore / world building, PvP, and a whole build system that uses different gun types, gadgets and upgrading all your boom sticks.
Elder Scrolls Online
Tumblr media
Played this for 8 or so months before getting bored of it. Definitely had some great moments, very customisable with addons that bring massive QoL. Love how you can go to every zone and it's all scaled. You can quest as a level 5, and have a level 40 buddy with you and it's all relevant which was really good. But it brings a major drawback that the story's kind of all over the place. The zones have good stories to them, but it lacks that story progression that most other MMOs do. Housing was fun to play with, crafting system was interesting. If you like doing dungeons / instanced content every day then this is great for that, but was never super into that myself.Jumping is absolute awfulness and so clunky like holy cow. Still, was a pleasant way to pass 8 or so months.
Far Cry: New Dawn
Tumblr media
I love the Far Cry universe, and a return to Hope County was pretty fun. Fairly short game, and really should have just been DLC to Far Cry 5, but I still had a lot of fun with it. Took my time with it, grinded out some armor sets by repeating some content. Was cool to see what happened to certain characters, including your character from the base game. General Far Cry shenanigans are good times with a co-op buddy
Final Fantasy 14
Tumblr media
Tried this a few years back but couldn't get into it. Gave it another shot in December and it looks like this will be my home for the next while. Very very very very story heavy, most of which can be skipped but might as well sit back and enjoy it. Smell the flowers. Typical tank/healer/dps holy trinity, but the classes are all super fun of the ones I've tried so far. There's a free trial up to level 35 which I would recommend giving it a go. It plays at a much slower pace than say, Guild Wars 2, but honestly it's refreshing. Very pretty game, lots of fashion, lots of collectables (minis, mounts), so much to do.
Golf With Your Friends
Grab a few buddies, play stupid games of mini/crazy golf. Be sure to play it with voice comms. Has some great options to make the games more silly. Very fun.
GTA
Tumblr media
Kind of winded down with this game for the most part, but popped in once in a blue moon for a ride around, check out new guns. Didn't really have the money for any new cars, but could take a peak. Had a tiny look at the Casino update, but not too much. Mostly because Twitch Prime gave me a casino penthouse for free!
Guild Wars 2
Tumblr media
Has been my bread-and-butter game since it came out. Made a whole bunch more legendaries, got super into Norn stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed the stuff they did put out. Can’t wait for the next living world story at the end of January. But it’s on the back-burner now as FF14 has taken over.
Path of Exile
Not normally a game I'd go for, but hey it was free, we were bored. Kind of had to do a fair bit of research beforehand to find out what class to play and how to build it. This is all getting revamped in the upcoming sequel, and honestly the biggest drawback is you have this tiny, tiny, tiny inventory and absolutely no way to make it bigger, not even through the cash shop. You make frequent trips back to town, but thankfully it's easy to do so and go back to where you were. Made it through the current campaign/"story" at the time but didn't feel the need to play anymore.
Stardew Valley
Only really dabbled in this, but it's fun! Tried it a long time ago but couldn't get into it. Felt guilty as it was a present from a friend. Few friends recently been talking about it a lot so gave it another shot. Definitely got into it more this time around. One of those games where you can put in 20 minutes and can just as easily put in 12 hours without blinking. Now feel less guilty about friend-present and it's super enjoyable. Thanks @drazzi <3
Untitled Goose Game
Was following this since the first trailer came out, and while it was delayed near the end it was 100% worth the wait. The only game I got for my Switch this year and it was very enjoyable. Knew it would be a short game bt stretched it out over a few days, taking my time to explore and steal things like the asshole goose I was born to be. Still got more to do with it and plan on going back. Very enjoyable, highly recommend.
Witcher 3
Started this 2018, but but a fair bit of time into it early on in the year, though haveven't touched it since March. Still got a DLC of content left to do and a looooot of side quests. Enjoyable universe. Really really glad to see the TV show doing well.
Yooka - Laylee
Got this for free through Twitch Prime and didn't get very far with it, but it was fun to play. Basically Banjo-Kazooie version 2, but hey it works. Cute game.
I’ve probably missed some, and I’ve not included mobile games, but these are the ones that stick out. So wheee. Yay games.

Fall 2017, CR roundup
Juuni Taisen, ep1 - Dropped. It’s just... the sort of self-involved abstract edgy thing I don’t enjoy.
Sengoku Night Blood, ep1 - Dropped. An otome game about an ordinary girl being transported to a crazy (parallel reality?) version of the warring states period, which is fine, but a bit too Japanese for me. I’m just not a fan of sengoku “historical” stories.
Taisho Mebiusline Chicchaisan, ep1 - Dropped. Another pseudo-historical piece. More importantly, the episodes are like 3 minutes long, which I feel no interest in.
Dies irae, ep0 - Dropped. I’m too old for this weird German nonsense. Also, I’ve seen shows like this, and their plot is almost universally incomprehensible all the way through. I have better ways to waste my time (like long shounens obviously). Plus, starting with some off screen sex and then murder is not my thing, or the casual backhanding a female subordinate to show how edgy you are. The most notable thing was how old fashioned this show felt, especially in the shading.
Code: Realize, ep1 - Watching. Another otome game it looks like, this one with... Victor Frankenstein as dateable, I guess. I’ll keep at it for now, since it didn’t do anything to specifically annoy me. Also, I do kinda like the steampunk look.
Blood Blockade Battlefront S2, ep1 - Queued. I’m probably not going to watch this weekly, I just wanted to make the queue skip S1. Anyway, as with S1, it’s stylish and has an interesting setting, but I’m still puzzled about why vampires. However, full points for the part where they lined up single file in preparation for their boss’s attack. That was classic.
The Idolmaster Side M, ep0 - Queued. Also probably not going to watch weekly, but I did enjoy the original idolmaster anime, it was surprisingly pure but relatable, so I’ll keep this in the queue.
Konohana Kitan, ep1 - Dropped. It’s a youkai thing, so it’s tempting to stay with it, but it’s actually a work show about a traditional inn? onsen? and it’s... not really my kind of thing.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie (Netojuu no Susume), ep1 - Watching. ...Unrealistic. I want to quit my job and just play online games all day too!! But kind of amusing.
Black Clover, ep1 - Queued. .........well, it’s a shounen, so I’ll leave it in the queue, but uh. uuuuuh, no. Aside from the yelling that everyone mentions, which is indeed annoying, it’s hard to explain all the ways in which this kinda turned me off.
That’s all the new season CR shows. I might go look for some stuff that’s not on CR later, since I dropped almost everything legally obtainable lol
