Polysix

As I wrote in a previous post, i “inherited” a Polysix from work, but one voice was dead and another had a wonky VCA (the release was always zero regardless what the EG Release knob was set to) so I sent it off to Ko at Modeless Factory and he had it back up and running almost as soon as he unpacked it. Prognosis: one dead SSM 2044 VCF chip, one dead SSM 2056 VCA chip. I had it back three days after I sent it off, and of course it’s working perfectly and sounds fantastic. Thanks Ko!

Aside from crushed parts of the fake wood sides and bottom panel, it’s in really good shape. Fake wood? Well. It’s particle board covered with vinyl wood grain sticker sheet. Grrrrrr. I would like to replace the whole deal with a real wood case but it doesn’t seem like anyone is making them anymore. As you can see, a few keys had some funk on them. Just rubbing at it with bare fingers didn’t do anything so I thought I’d have a go at using a melamine sponge, and that did the trick. Looks great now.
