It was a lesson everyone had to learn eventually. A harsh lesson, but important. A lesson he’d had instilled in him from a young age through teachings, then reinforced by actions. She spoke like it was practical experience, though. Like one who had been harmed. It was a tone he knew well. One that echoed so many people he’d known.

“That is true. It’s good to be cautious with everyone, but... not outright distrustful. Hatred and fear spreads in terrible ways. That’s something I’ve learned. Something I wish I’d learned sooner.” Before Kirkwall had fallen. Before things had gotten out of hand there. He could see it now, his own dislike of mages hadn’t helped anything.
