Here you go, folks... the reveal! I managed to score a 1948 Vandercook No 4 from some folks in Tulsa in March. It was a pretty terrible eBay listing, and I kinda expected nothing would come of it, but I managed to make contact with the woman in charge of selling the press and we dickered a good deal -- not a steal, but a good fair price for its condition and provenance. Motor freight took their sweet ass time getting it to me -- took a couple sightseeing tours in Pennsylvania and Southie for some reason -- but arrived in one piece. The trip/print shuttle was loose and the taper pin holding the footpedal to the gripper actuator had sheared, but those were easy fixes. I had to remove 20+ years of grime and old ink, but underneath it all was a machine in pretty good shape. Some new rollers, plenty of oil, and voila -- a successful proof. I wanna run it through its paces -- look out, APA folks! -- and see what other tweaking it needs, but I'm pretty happy with the new acquisition. I hope to use this as a production press for hardcore renters, leaving the original No 4 for classes, fun, noodling and whatever. And before the Peanut Gallery pops up in this thread, yes the pressbed could use some scrubbing and burnishing, yes I should tear it down to bare metal and rebuild it with only OEM materials and paints, yes I forgot a space in HELLO WORLD. All I'll say is, I have a five year old in preschool, and @paul.moxon seems to be on board with the project. 😉 Oh, yeah -- if you're in the Greater Beantown area, hit me up and come take a look. I’m still here!

So……….

It’s been a while since I’ve really blogged or written anything except rants on Facebook. So, hopefully I don’t overboard on my first post back.

So what has Life into Zoe been like the past few years hmm… Well I’ve grown up a little and really have gone through lots of ups and downs, this past few months have been a rollercoaster of emotions and events especially.

I started a new job working for Stryder Motorfreight this past February and so far so good. They are a great supporting and understanding company and I really like them and hopefully will stay with them for the unforeseen future. I drive mostly locally and up and down the I-5 corridor and I get to be home every night and every weekend. The pay is not top notch but it’s not bottom rung either and it’s very steady and stable.

In the past 6 months I really have been cracking on my transition stuff and my general health. I got enrolled with the VA and started a weight loss program that will lead to weight loss surgery and better overall health and hopefully one day get my weight into the low 200’s. I’ve been working on getting all my referrals for my transgender surgeries but with mixed results. The most difficult and elusive surgery is still breast augmentation unfortunately. I how ever have completed my orchiectomy and I’m almost recovered. I’ve also received confirmation that I’m on the list at OHSU for a GRS consultation for May of 2018. So overall things are improving when it come to my health and transition just slowly.

In the past six months I’ve change my relationship with my ex-wife from foe to ally and buried all my grievances and agreed to work forward and not backward for my children sake and my own. Things have improved greatly because of this and tensions have subsided. I don’t know if we will ever be friends again but it’s nice to talk without “The War” going on between us and we can both move forwards.

There’s so much to talk about but I must leave it at this point as I live my life, a Life into Zoe.
