random rec’s for august:
currently watching:
wwdits (season 4)
a league of their own
reservation dogs
the sandman
extraordinary attorney woo
watched:
paper girls-
so this was very scifi with all girl leads and I really enjoyed it. I will say you probably need to like scifi or time travel to really get into this but if you do like stuff like this it’s really good and worth the watch!!
the timelines are complex but understandable and the characters are the best part of the entire show. these twelve year olds literally embody everything it means to be twelve and it’s so annoying and enduring at the same time. if twelve year olds could suddenly time travel this would be a pretty accurate depiction of what would happen.
this show talks about periods and i think that’s really important to note.
fate: the winx saga-
so 90% of the reason i watched this was because i watched the cartoon growing up... i dont really remember a whole lot from it but i liked the idea of a group of girls as leads. i really enjoyed watching this and i’m thinking about watching it again before another season comes out. i’m a bit of a magic whore if i’m going to be honest, i tend to like and enjoy anything that is about magic, i’ve always loved it since i was a kid.
the characters actually feel like kids in this, they are awkward and selfish and care about what their peers think. you get to see them mature and grow up some as the series go on and i think my favorite part is the way the characters are written. you wanted to strangle them sometimes for being silly kids and i love that. some of the plot i could guess but other parts of it was very twisty and i didn’t expect the cliffhanger at all. overall i would recommend this to anyone who enjoys magic, enjoyed the series growing up, or likes interesting characters.
only murders in the building (season 1 and 2)-
woozah let’s talk about a lack of trigger warning. tw: suicide
like i obviously knew it was about murder so blood and gore was a given but it gave zero warnings for suicide and violent means, there are also scenes of the victim post mortem completely animated and walking around with a hole in his head. my brother completed suicide by the same means so i really had to do some work when it just showed the whole body on the ground, it really took me off guard. i was able to move past it and the show is pretty good but holy crap they would have done a much better job at warning about it and i bet some people have stopped watching because of it.
this didn’t make it on my favorite show list and my adhd definitely did not hyper fixate on it but i like the humor though and humor is really important to me so i think that’s why i truly keep watching it. the plot has twists and turns and it’s fun trying to guess who the killer is with my partner when we watch it. i probably wouldn’t watch the season a second time but i would watch another season if they made it. it has lgbtq and disabled rep in the show as well so that’s a plus.
uncharted-
very cliche action movie but it felt somewhat more light-hearted then other treasure hunting stories. it was like watching the video game unfold and something in my brain did a little happy wiggle at that. if you dont like the video game or action movies in general then this is not for you. i will say that i kept looking at tom holland and my brain kept saying spiderman so that was a little distracting but i think that’s probably because my brain is weird.
senpai, this can’t be love-
this is one of the best written ‘unrequited actually requited love’ stories in my opinion. i didn’t end up loving the show (like kieta hatsukoi or old fashioned cupcake) and that’s a little sad but japanese bl’s always hit very differently and i think that’s why i ended up liking it. i usually struggle with the ‘miscommunication’ plot that happens in alot of dramas (i think it’s just the therapist in me) because they generally feel really silly and unrealistic but this show really lets you see inside the persons head, to hear what they are thinking. a miscommunication happens right from the start and it’s because the lead freezes-- he’s overwhelmed with his feelings and seeing the person he admires the most sort of shuts off his brain. he comes off as rude and evasive at times but it’s because he doesn’t know how to handle his feelings...idk it just feels very real so the miscommunications are alot less annoying and don’t feel like just another plot point.
slowly watching because of adhd:
