I saw you say about why the UK govt is collapsing and as someone who studies politics I thought why not try to answer, hopefully this entire ask will send through- there's a lot. It starts in 2016 with Brexit so this won't be the. most informative. but a good start. So Boris Johnson gets elected in in 2019 with the slogan "Get Brexit Done." Previous things known about Boris Johnson: racist, xenophobic, sexist, homophobic, massively transphobic, the list goes on. His name isn't even boris; it's an act to make him more personable. He was in a club where he reportedly set money on fire in front of a homeless person. In the Brexit referendum, he lies about a major factor which makes a lot of people vote Leave, and then only announced it wasn't exactly true when it was too late. Boris does actually get brexit done- but with a deal that is not properly thought though meaning there's issues with Northern Ireland's border (a major issue due to the nature of conflict within Northern Ireland). He lied to the queen in order to shut down Parliament to try and undemocraticslly pass through the Brexit deal. When it comes to COVID- he doesn't lockdown soon enough and is reported to have said "let the bodies pile high." He prioritised businesses over people. Sometime last year this MP called Owen Patterson is revealed to have a second job working in a lobbying firm- thus not prioritising his work as an MP and also giving this company undemocratic access to the government. The COVID rules are unclear and the country is in chaos. There's a couple cases of MPs/ special advisers breaking them. It is then revealed that Boris Johnson as well as most the Tory government broke lockdown rules with parties- one MP having said There weren't parties, but if there was there was nothing illegal about them. He becomes the first PM to have a criminal investigation while being PM. turns out he did break the law. UK currently is set to have lower economic growth than all major economic superpowers other than Russia, and millions of people have been plunged into heat poverty. There are protests about low pay while MPs get a payrise. They were in the process of getting rid of our Human Rights Act and replacing it with one that made protests illegal, critising government partially illegal, and takes away the power of the courts to protect human rights. An MP was watching porn in the House of Commons- where all our laws get made. Another was a sexual abuser. Then it is revealed one of the top tories was a known sexual predator and that boris johnson conveniently "forgot". This leads to most the high up positions in government resigning. This forces Boris to resign but say he's going be a "caretaker PM" while a new one gets elected. Press is reporting this is because he wants to have a party. All the people going for PM are awful people. Hope this isn't too long- i get very passionate about politics lol
Oh my god I thought America was bad this seems like a total hellhole but also very funny? Why did he change his name to Boris of all things? Why does he like partying so much? I mean hopefully this will get the left-leaning party elected and stop that pesky old human rights deterioration. Thank you for explaining that it makes a lot more sense now! This guy’s a dick

Surely any halfway sane country would be giving nurses a £3000 payrise and MPs a snack box and a badge, rather than the other way around?

hey if you're wondering how the UK is doing right now, a conservative mp has asked for a payrise on his £82k ($111k) a year salary, which is apparently 'desperately difficult' to live on. At the same time, his party are cutting benefits for the poorest in the country by £20 a week. so it's not going well.

Senior MP. Complaining about how hard it is to live on £82k ($111,375 USD).
Please keep in mind:
Today was when the £20 uplift got removed from the shit Universal Credit benefits we get
An awful lot of people have wages so low that they qualify for Universal Credit and are barely managing on that
The National Insurance hike doesn’t affect him at that level of pay, but it does affect the people who are barely making ends meet
The fact that public sector pay has been frozen for decades
The so-called “pay rise” nurses get which is actually less than the new National Insurance contributions
And he’s whingeing about how hard it is to make ends meet at £82k per year? Most people are talking about a third of that as gloriousness beyond imagining.
I hate it here.

Rishi Sunak announces his plan to cut DWP/ Universal credit payments, leaving the most vunerable families with 1040 pounds less per year
Then MPs announce a three and a half thousand pound a year payrise.
Why are our taxes funding a payrise for some of the wealthiest and pay cuts for the most vunerable?

Me, remembers that MPs voted to give themselves a payrise for "handling covid so well" and to let thousands of underprivileged children starve over the winter: >:(
Me, remembers it's almost November 5th: >:)

every time there's a general election i always end up thinking "well the tories can't possibly get in this time" you'd think people will realise they're fucking rancid and that their austerity pollitics are killing the most vulnerable members of society
like they've been in power for nine years, if any of their promises are winning you over please realise they would have done it already if they wanted to, you're being lied to
they've cut my mother's disability benefits to the point where there's no food in the fridge when i visit, my little brother's skinny as fuck, the amount of homeless people on the highstreet has rocketed and i feel helpless to do anything about it because i myself live paycheck to paycheck
If i lived in london, the only part of the uk that matters in the eyes of parliment, then i'd protest but i dont, so i cant
rupert murdoch and his billionaire friends now have their hands in most of our news, they aren't interested in the crippling levels of poverty that riddle our country (which by the way the UN has called a continued source of great misery) they are interested in keeping their funds protected in off-shore bankaccounts and they need the tories in to do this.
I see more and more dirt poor people siding with the conservatives because they're being fed constant lies about their situation being down to immigrants, people on benefits or even others like themselves using food banks or going to the doctors one to many times.
Like no mate, it's not your neighbour in the wheelchair or the family from Pakistan making you poor, it's the MPs in westminister giving themselves a 5% payrise after every election and literally sleeping in the debate room in a suit worth more money than any of my possessions while our taxes pay for them to do that rather than going back into the nhs or local communities
UK child poverty is the highest its ever been
As is food bank use
There's been a 165% increase in homelessness since the tories took to power, child homelessness is also rising
Our national health service is failing (being purposefully under-invested in and sold off)
Thousands have died after being declared "fit to work" (I'm putting screenshots so you can't just scroll past, know what you're doing if you're not voting to keep the tories out)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And at least 130,000 recorded instances of avoidable deaths due to these policies
This isn't even touching the fact that this party is historically homophobic, transphobic, racist and sexist. I'm sure we all remember the London bus attack, and I can personally vouch the amount of homophobic vitriol i recieve at work and going about my day has drastically increased. Bigots in power comfort bigots on the street.
whatever you think of brexit or corbyn's electability don't vote for the conservatives on December 12th, we're already in the throws of class genocide and removing these leeches from parliament should be our main priority
REMEMBER THEY FUCKING WORK FOR US NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND

Tory MP reveals grim reality of living on just £82,000 as he asks for payrise
Tory MP reveals grim reality of living on just £82,000 as he asks for payrise
Conservative MP Sir Peter Bottomley thinks he should be paid the same amount as a GP (Picture: Reuters) A Conservative has spoken out about the struggles of living on an MP’s salary on the day Universal Credit has been cut for the most vulnerable in the country. How one percent is a bloody insult
How one percent is a bloody insult
The Government of Toffs had allocated funds and budgeted for payrises for the NHS. They’d allowed for 2.1%. That’s pretty paltry, ludicrously tightfisted. And now, the Toffs have backtracked, and intend to pay out a measly 1% rise. That’s what you call derisory, downright insulting, when Toffs have just accepted 11% rises for MPs. ONE PERCENT! ONE PERCENT! Fuck me static. I hit the health…
