I've been listening to Sarah Gayle Meech's album - "One Good Thing". One of my favorite tracks on her album is "Foolish". It's such a good sad song. The kind that you need when you have to tie one on for a broken heart. Sad songs have a special place in my heart. They are needed in the world. Especially when they are delivered like this. Everyone has done bad shit in a relationship, maybe habitually we know what's in our hearts, we feel bad about it. This is a song for that. Shit happens, you pay for it. Sometimes you tilt some back to deal with it.
"Drink Myself To Sleep" is another song I'm diggin' on the album. It's got that badass honky tonk sound to it. Some other tracks that really standout to me on this album are, "Moving On Song", "Honey Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is", and last but in no way least, "One Good Thing".
And I totally agree Sarah Gayle Meech. Heartache does make a damn good song.

I just got turned on to Rachel Brooke and checked out her album, "A Killer's Dream". This album is sexy. Listen to any track on the album. It conjures thoughts of dark, smoke filled, almost empty, bars. Where a raven haired siren croons to you from behind a guitar, keeping you adrift through a whiskey tinged haze. Drawing you in & leaving you unable to escape. Or that was my experience, at least. Don't judge. Either way, Rachel Brooke has a beautiful voice that haunts your mind and carries you through from start to finish. I knew I was going to be in for a treat after the intro track, "Have It All", oozed old school analog goodness, carrying you into a sweet journey.
The jazz horns on "Late Night Lover" lend a big band air to it. The lush reverb & warble sound that rings throughout. A saw is played on this song, and brings an insane amount of depth to it.
"Every Night About This Time" is such a chunky blues influenced song that accompanies Rachel Brooke's voice like only great blues based riffs can. She has the ability to convey the distress that her heart is in with her singing.
The title track, "A Killer's Dream" has a great old school rockabilly beat to it and would do the likes of Wanda Jackson proud. It is great to see new artists carrying on the tradition of a genre & do it right. Ms. Brooke has managed to flawlessly capture a timeless era & make her own niche in it.
Rachel Brooke just played the Muddy Roots Festival this past Labor Day weekend & is a crowd favorite. After listening to this album repeatedly, it's very easy to see why she is. This album is a must play. Rachel Brooke is a must see person on my list of shows.
Music is available through Rachel Brooke's website.
Please find her on Facebook, Twitter & a show near you!

I'm back
I could have stayed tonight, too, as technically the festival doesn't end until tomorrow morning. The x said he's off tomorrow and could keep the kids another night. So I debated: Stay? Or come home and have a peaceful, child-free evening in my own home, where I could knit and watch a movie and drink beer? Maybe a LOT of beer. About 3 PM a few raindrops fell. I don't want my tent to get wet, because it's hard to dry everything out, especially when they're predicting rain for 3 days. And I can't risk putting things away damp, because the equipment might mold, and I'm terribly allergic to mold. And I can't afford to just buy a new tent every time. We have another bash next month. So I packed up my tent and duffle and put it in the car. Walked around the festival some more, came back up to the compound to have some lunch, and it started to rain. POUR. That was somewhat fortuitous, because it finished putting out my charcoal grill and cooling it. So I packed up my cooking gear and when the rain quit, I put that stuff in the car too. Then there didn't seem to be any reason to hang around, because I wasn't going to go down & stand in the rain for concerts, and didn't just want to hang out for the last night watching other people get wasted and if the weather continues to go through as predicted, that place would be a mudhole by dark. So I sneaked back to town. Shhh! Don't tell anybody. I'm going to go have a shower and watch a movie and knit and drink beer (maybe a LOT of beer) inside my cozy, peaceful, and dry house.
