GP hey! i used to be a trader waaaay back in the day (i stopped trading 3 years ago) and i’m about to make a new weebly but i was wondering, do people still use the same forums (musicaltrading on LJ, yahoo groups) or is there anything newly updated i should know to get my butt on? i’ve always trusted you and your ways so you’re my first go to. thanks for the help!
Oh hey there, welcome back to trading!
The musicalexchange group on LiveJournal is still going strong. I feel like it’s a little quieter than previous years and consists mainly of older traders, but I still see regular posts on there at least every few days.
The Yahoo! groups has shut down, but a former member has made an email groups service on IO (or something like that) which serves much the same purpose. I think you can join it here. It’s quieter than the Yahoo! board, since it has less members, but it’s another good way to keep up with older traders.
Reddit also seems to be gaining some popularity as a place for traders. Many are private, as might be expected, but this one, which seems to have some frequent posters, is viewable without having to join the subreddit. I’m sure there are others, but the one I (infrequently) look at is private, so I’m not the best resource for that, ha.
Finally, Discord has become very popular for traders to congregate in. I’m currently in two different ones, which has some crossover in members. Members in there tend to be newer, younger traders more interested in recent shows, such as Hamilton, Six, Hadestown, and so on. But it’s an excellent way to keep up with “trading drama” and any changes to frequently used websites, as they’re very up-to-date and quick to spread info about that (for example, when Weebly began taking down trading sites, when MEGA started deleting files, and so on). If you want to join, let me know off anon or through private message or email, as there’s a bit of a process to get into it.
And if this were a few months earlier, I would recommend Encora, which was a big trading database and a place for traders to find each other, but it got shut down after only being up for... man, I’m not sure how long it was up, but it didn’t feel very long. And caused quite the controversy when it was shut down. But never mind that, it’s gone. So yeah, the four options above are my go-tos!

A Whole Lot Of Gifting Going On!
So, I've been doing some thinking, seeing as my birthday is about a month and a half away. This year is significant for a number of reasons. And I've been doing a lot of reflecting recently as I've been reviewing some of my most recent acquisitions. I was introduced to both musicals and old movies at a young age by my mom. I can remember seeing many versions of Phantom of the Opera at a young age. So when my music teacher went to London over winter break of 1986 and saw the musical, and brought back the recording, I'd already known the basic story. But then she played the cast recording for us. And I was hooked. It was early 1987. I begged and begged my mother for my own copy. But it wasn't available in stores just yet. The show wouldn't open on Broadway until the beginning of the next year. But on my birthday ... there it was. Mom had gone to my teacher, who had talked to friends in England, who obtained a copy and shipped it over. It hit me today as I was thinking about it, that this June, that day will have been 30 years ago. Has it really been 30 years since I held that first copy in my hands? That's a long time to be a fan of something. There was something about that music that melded me to the story that I'd already enjoyed in other formats. And yes, I do enjoy Phantom for more than just the Lloyd Webber musical. I've read Leroux, Kay, even that so-called sequel by Forsyth. I've seen all the movie incarnations. Listened to various musical incarnations. I've even written my own fanfiction. But I keep coming back to the Lloyd Webber musical for the music. Thirty years. Yes, it's a long time to be a fan. So, this year, I have a target. I've seen the show live 25 times, and been a fan for 30 years. As I replied to a recent ask, I'm going to open my list for a gifting spree for my birthday. First, here's the link: http://musicinthestars.weebly.com/ Second, here's the rules: 1. All requests must be filled out via Tumblr's ask feature. 2. Just like last year, up to 10 requests per ask. Also, ANY show, not limited to Phantom. 3. This year's pre-set number is 25/30. I know that sounds odd. I'm going to gift a total of 30. Twenty-five audios and 5 videos. 4. Just like last year, if the total amount asked for exceeds my total, it'll be majority rules, trickling downwards. If it gets down to single votes for any recording, my choice on picks. 5. The deadline is 11:59 June 23 (because I want some time to put it together.)
Feel free to reblog this, get the word out! Annnnnnnd .... GO!

*Notes: I originally wrote this post sometime in July 2017, intending to do just what I said, but some real life things got in the way – such as not having a computer shortly after. Now that I have one again … maybe I can make this a reality!*
Well, in the past three years I’ve had this blog, I’ve said a number of times I wasn’t sure I knew what I wanted to do with it.
It’s languished, partly due to my own neglect. I have given back to the trading community that got me onto Tumblr to begin with a few times, and I attempted to do so again this year, but when I didn’t get any requests for any tradables to upload, I didn’t do my birthday gifting post. Somehow, the energy to do so was sucked out of me.
But there has been an idea floating around in my mind off and on for a while now. One thing I love to do is to put out information. I’ve been a musical trader for quite a long time, and I enjoy not only tracking down things that interest me, I enjoy correcting errors that have been out there. To date, I’ve only done so on my trading site, but I daresay that it’s not read by as many people as I might like, because the same mistakes keep being circulated on many lists today.
So my idea. I’m going to write (another thing I enjoy) a series of ‘articles’, if you will, about “Contested Bootlegs”. I’ve got my first few lined up already.
Some things I throw out are subject to opinion, and I’ll usually also put out any evidence, one way or another, that I have.
Why am I doing this?
It’s a weird thing, really. In the last few years, this … spidey sense, as it were, has crept over me when listening to an audio, or watching a video. Usually while I’m looking at my list to place the info.
And I’ll see notes made on another one. And there goes that spidey sense, tingling.
Next thing I know, I’ve got audios listening to them side by side, looking for something to confirm they are, indeed, the same. It might be a cough. It might be a muttered word. It might be a weird sound. It might be just looking for something different, or too many things identical in a performance.
And I don’t know why I enjoy this, but I do. I think it goes hand in hand with my love of identifying audios that another trader had undated – which has happened. There’s something oddly satisfying about it. What’s not satisfying is when I see the same mislabel over and over again. Even when I know it’s a mislabel, sometimes, I get my hope up.
Maybe THIS one isn’t. Maybe this time it really IS the audio it says it should be.
My spidey sense is right more often than it’s not.
So with that in mind. I’d also love to open my ask box to anyone who has wondered about the information on an audio or video and would like to hear my take on it.

I'm not sure if you'll answer me as I have become anonymous but do you know any active Elisabeth traders? Most Elisabeth collectors in weebly are inactive and I have trouble finding the videos I want to watch. Hope you can answer me!
Yeah, I will admit that the amount of Elisabeth traders seems to have fallen a lot, possibly because there just aren’t that many productions of it running right now, especially in Germany and Austria, which is where a lot of its fans and bootleg traders for the show tended to be. Many of the ones whose main focus was trading Elisabeth boots are inactive, as there’s just not a lot of new stuff coming out of the show right now, and the ones that remain are a bit more diverse in their focus (e.g. I trade for Elisabeth, but I also focus on Phantom and Les Mis). But here’s a few I’ve found:
