there he is. the only good cop. and the stupid sexy mayor

ANYWAYS. hassan is the sheriff! he and his son are practicing muslims and as such feel sort of disconnected to the rest of the town who is primarily christian; my s/i would be the 'deputy' of sorts, really theyre just a marine biologist turned forensic scientist that ends up just staying on the island after the oil spill wipes their economy, him being settled and not really wanting to go back to the mainland -- he's writing a novel as well and finds the island a good place to find inspiration. he's actually agnostic, so he too feels distanced from the town's religious population. working with hassan, they become close friends and eventually more but keep their relationship down-low for the sake of their reputation, my s/i's 'office' is located in a small lab on a secluded part of the island, one that he used to live at until moving in w/ hassan and his son, they use the excuse of convenience to explain their rooming situation gwudhehd

aka dr. valentine, this doctor's immoral experiments are mostly self-inflicted. covered in scars, chemical burns, and the like, he is taken with the idea of 'curing' death, infusing technilogy and humanity into one ascended species. while he may practice on less willing subjects on occasion, he spends much of his time in his lab.

don't confuse that for aloofness! he is very doting and perceptive. he cares immensely about those close to him -- his whole research started because of his mothers illness, and science's lack of a cure for it, hence why he practices primarily on himself.

oh, and of course he's french, so he's obligated to be a hopeless romantic

"I can't believe you're actually wearing my clothes."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Well, it's not very...you."

He shakes his head, shaggy dark hair splaying into a wild mass of white-streaked curl -- He rests his head against his hand, black-painted nails creeping up the pale skin of his cheek. He smiles, leather-toed boots tapping gently against the floor, "I don't see what you mean."

"Do you even own anything that isn't monochrome?"

"Sure: Those fuzzy purple socks you bought me last New Year's, when your resolution was 'Get me to look less undead than the actual zombie at work.' Besides, it's not my fault the washing machine is broken. If I recall, it was your idea to put three pairs of shoes in there at once."

"They were covered in mud. And zombie blood. I very well couldn't leave them out in the open. Hey Ravi! Oh, those are some sick kicks! What color is that, murderous disease red?"

"Well I," he put on a poor attempt at a British accent, "very well couldn't come to work naked, and your closet was the only place I could find a decent outfit."

"Did you just call my closet decent? It's a Christmas miracle. Wait, say it again so I can record it -- maybe my resolution wasn't a failure after all."

"I meant in the sense of presentable for work."

Ravi wouldn't let it go that easily, however, and continued to tease Dex as well as cheer himself on, to which the other doctor simply ignored him and instead reached over to turn the small bluetooth speaker they'd kept in the lab up -- the crash of symbols and cacaphony of electric string drone out the tauntings of his boyfriend. He pretended to not see Ravi fistpump in celebration.

But really, Dex didn't mind all that much -- the sweater was awfully comfy. And Ravi didn't mind much either, despite the playful remarks; In fact, he sort of liked the way their styles crashed, admitting to himself it was sort of cute the way the sweater was far too big on the other man.

After all, opposites attract in most couples, and despite telling themsleves they wouldn't fall prey to the cliché romantic stereotypes, they couldn't help it -- they were only human.
