here's something short and goofy for you guys bc this song has been stuck in my head all morning.

“So, Eddie?” Steve asks while he, Robin, and Eddie are lounging around Family Video on a slow Tuesday afternoon.

“Yes, Stevie dear?” “Where did the ‘Big Boy’ thing come from?”

Steve watches as every bit of Eddie freezes under his gaze. 

“Uh..”

“Yeah, I’d like to know too, what’s up with that Munson?” Robin says, leaning forward on the counter beside Steve, pushing all of her right side into Steve’s left.

Poor Eddie.

“Oh, uh, well…” Eddie’s brow furrows for a moment before something seemingly comes to him in a moment. “You know how loud the rumor mill can be, Steve-o.”

“Whattya mean?” He knows what he means, he just wants to see what Eddie will say. He also knows It’s gotta be a tortuous question for the metalhead, especially one who’s crush is the one asking him. 

That was the other thing; after Eddie’s accidental pain-med induced schmoozing of Steve and the prompt forgettening of ever saying anything, Steve (and Robin) had come to the conclusion that he’s super into Eddie too.

Now it’s just a matter of getting Eddie to admit it, and having fun flirting and making him squirm a little in the meantime.

“Well, the phrase itself is from a song, but you do know your lovely conquests would talk, right?” The blush on his cheeks just makes him look cuter.

“And you believed them?” Robin states more than asks.

“Well there’s no way I’d ever know one way or the other!” Eddie laughs, his cheeks darkening.

Ignoring the myriad of things he could say to that, Steve instead asks “What song?”

“Huh? Oh, uhm, it’s from this random tape that Wayne picked up on the road a couple years ago. Has this weird art on the cover of some guy and like, skeletons and stuff? Dan something? It’s all yellow-y orange and blue..”

“That sounds so familiar…” Robin mumbles when Steve asks, “How does it go?”

“What?”

“The song.”

“Uh…” Eddie zones off into the distance and starts mumbling to himself.

Robin is still mumbling to herself too, “That sounds so familiar, what the hell?”

Eddie presumably finds the lyrics then, because he starts singing. “Big Boy, real cool, you can tell he’s no one’s fool, And he tries so hard to come off like a star.” Eddie starts dancing around in front of the counter, “You can tell by the way he combs his hair, by the cocky grin and that moody stare. By the way he leans and juts out his hip...” He sings, pointing at how Steve is doing exactly that.

Steve laughs, waving him off, “Okay, okay, I get it! You can st—”

“Elfman!” Robin calls out suddenly.

Steve and Eddie share a look. “Who’s an elf?”

“The Dan guy from your song, Elfman? Was his last name Elfman?”

Eddie snaps his fingers at her, “That’s it! Danny Elfman!” “The guy from Oingo Boingo!”

There are a few beats of silence.

“Don’t look at me like that, he’s the singer in Oingo Boingo! My parents love their stuff, and they did that song in Weird Science!”

“Which song?”

“..Weird Science.” she says as if that was obvious.

Something clicks in Steve’s head at the name, too. “Wait, I know I've seen that name somewhere else...” He rounds the counter and toward the shelf he knows the tape he's thinking of lives; it’s a goofy movie, he’s watched it before on some of his long solo shifts and it’s honestly kind of grown on him.

He grabs up the first copy he sees, one of the Family Video plastic clamshells, and brings it back to the counter, popping the tape into their tape player.

The opening credits start up, and at the title card: “Oh hey, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure! I love Pee Wee!” Eddie says, excitedly jumping up to sit on the counter in front of the TV (and Steve).

“Yeah you do..” Robin mumbles.

“Shut up,” Steve grumbles, elbowing her a bit harder than necessary, “Look.” he points up to the text on the screen. 

“Damn, this guy’s everywhere!”

“‘Music composed by Danny Elfman’. Holy shit! Good memory, Dingus!”

“Thanks! Now what is this about Eddie loving Pee Wee?”

Spoiler warning for The Owl house Season 3 Episode 1. You have been warned.

Ok, so I've emotionally recovered enough from the episode, and now I'm going to talk about it.

Ok so, the way everyone was helping Camilla was so sweet. And the way Amity nervously handed her tea? Absolutely adorable. Also why'd they put a witch, owl and something that looked like King on the plaster box? I'm already sad enough, why do they do this? And then the way Luz put the plaster on Amitys hand? I. My heart.

Gus exploring the basement and being in awe of human stuff was awesome. I have yet to see someone that dissapointed at bubble rap running out. Also Hunter being really formal when thanking Camilla? I. I just. Like it makes sense, I don't know what I expected, but it wasn't that.

Willow and Amity breaking a clock cause they thought it'd hurt Vee is hilarious. They even did a little fist bump thing afterwards, they looked so proud of themselves. AND LUZ AND CAMILLA HAVE MATCHING EARINGS IN ONE SCENE??? That's amazing. Camilla having a rainbow heart on her clothes after Luz comes out is also really cool.

AND THE INTRO OH MY GOD THE INTRO IS EVERYTHING. I love everything about the intro. I love the new character design for Vee too, the character designers did a really awesome job. Hunter cutting his hair (cause he looked to much like Belos) and Willow helping him??? Fantastic. Love the trans-coding of that scene. AND THEY SET THE DOOR ON FIRE LMAO. Should've known something like that would happen at some point. I don't understand why Vee was the only one who knew how to use a fire extinguisher though.

And AYY DUOLINGO REFRENCE!! It makes me really happy for some reason. And hooty being spray painted on the door? That was definitely Luz, and that makes me very very sad. And her outburst during her English class? Camilla please get your daughter some therapy. AND LUZ'S LOCKER. It was basically a shrine to her family in the boiling Isles. That's so sad but also wholesome at the same time.

And then Camilla asking Luz if her friends would rather drink blood is honestly so thoughtful (despite how weird that sounds). And she had whole books of notes on their eating habits so she wouldn't forget anything. And she taught Hunter to use a sewing machine too. She cares so much, it's awesome.

The fact Hunter has an obsession with wolfs makes so much sense and is really great. Give the person who came up with that idea a raise. And whoever gave him crocs. However, the person who suggested Gus say "it's good to see you happy, one of us might as well be" needs to be fired. They have made me feel things and that is awful. And "I miss knowing who I'm supposed to be". They have called me out. How dare they.

GUS SHOWING HUNTER COSMIC FRONTIER. That whole conversation showing the importance of representation in a way literal children could understand was not something I thought I needed. AND CAMILLA MADE SURE THEY'D FIND THE BOOK SO THEY COULD READ A STORY ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE THEM AHGJKYYDK. She's such a good parent. She had the old snakeskin Luz found as a kid in a frame on her bedside table too, which is a nice detail.

Also "even if I'm not who I'm supposed to be... I like who I am right now". AHHHHHH. That is the most trans-coded line I have ever heard in my whole fucking life. I love Hunter so much. And the fact he started sobbing after Luz said he was family now ddjgssffggjkd fuck this show I hate it.

And Marsha, I LOVE MARSHA. THEIR NAILS!!!! AHHHH. THEIR SO COOL!!! And "sounds like big bro got a hot witch girlfriend and little bro got upset" when talking about Caleb and Belos lmao. They're awesome. Vee and Marsha need to go on a date, if they don't I will be mildly upset.

Willow having a photo album of all the good memories they made is also amazing, she seems like that kinda person.

AND AMITY AND LUZ HAVE MATCHING HALLOWEEN COSTUMES AHHHHHHHH. And Hunter & Gus's outfits, they're such dorks I love them.

Also the fact Luz's Azura hyperfixation is partly because her Dad brought her the book before he died. I. I hate this show.

And possessed Hunter OH MY GOD POSSESSED HUNTER. The design was so cool, and I just, he's so gender??? Like I get Belos is evil and I hate him with my entire being but still.

Also the fight scene was awesome. The animation, the dialogue, the voice acting everything was perfect. And Hunter throwing the titans blood into the lake so Belos couldn't hurt anyone else was amazing. Hunter definitely knew Belos would try and make him go in after it, and he was willing to sacrifice his life to avoid the harm of anyone else. We've needed a scene like this since Hollow Mind and it is very VERY satisfying to finally have a scene were Hunter stands up to Belos.

AND THEN CAMILLA JUMPED IN AFTER HIM AND SAVED HIM!!!!! YESSSSSS!!!

But noooo Hunter has more scars now and although they look really cool Belos has still hurt Hunter again. The show writers really want him to suffer huh?

AND THEN FLAPJACK SACRIFICES HIMSELF SO HUNTER CAN LIVE!!!! AND THEN THEY CRY??? SHOW WRITERS WHY???? WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE SMALL ANIMALS?? And then Hunter says he wants to fight back for Flapjack ahhhhhh my heart. I hate this fucking show.

AND THEN CAMILLA GOES THROUGH THE PORTAL TOO? DIDN'T EXPECT THAT BUT I LOVE IT.

"Time to go home Flap" I AM SOBBING SHOW WRITERS WHY HUNTER HAS BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH OK LEAVE HIM ALONE

The last lumity scene!!!!! It was so sweet!!! I love this shows portrayel of healthy relationship dynamics. And Vee staying I didn't expect, but it makes a lot of sense actually.

In conclusion, I very much enjoyed the new Owl House episode. Minus everything in it that made me Very Very Sad ™

That's what I originally wanted but now I have a new idea where the reader is a guardian angel and since there's so many people on earth now, guardian Angel's are assigned to family now instead of individuals, both blood and found family. Its probably gonna be just drabbles bc I have no plot idea but maybe I'll mix it with the mafia thing so we can have all the angst of the righteous angel having to protect the mafia boys who are very much morally incorrect 👀

DA OCs’ name meaning (Part 1)

I’m procrastinating so I am gonna talk through my OC’s names/meanings. And why I chose them as some of their names are made up. This may also just end up being an expository for my OCs’ backstories because I have not posted about them all in detail before.

This is Part One. Here is Part Two. I will link other parts as I update them. This post explains my OCs from my “Last of the Elvhen” universe. 

Edit, Sept 28. 2019: I just learned that Book of Elvhen is run by a person I do not want to associate myself with idealogically. I still will give credit where its due in their initial influence of my characters’ names, but I won’t be engaging with the content anymore.

Fenrie Mahariel: Obviously, Fen is derivative of wolf. In my headcanon, Fenrie was given the name because their early life was so chaotic with the deaths of their parents. It was their mother’s last request (before walking off to die) to Ashalle to name Fernie in refrence of Fen’Harel, in order to appease the Trickster god and perhaps protect her child from further misfortune. To be honest, I just find it interesting how Fen’Harel has a dual purpose to the Dalish as an omen, but also one that must be respected. 

I really debated with myself the spelling of Fenrie, but I landed on -rie as the suffix due Project Elvhen. “-Rie” doesn’t mean anything to me really, but more it is denoting gender. In this fan project, an “i” ending is feminine, but an “e” is neuter. Like me, Fenrie is nonbinary and so their name reflects that neutrality, but also pays homage to their femininity.

Cae Kader: My Orlesian Warden who picks up Fenrie’s slack after they abandon their post as Warden-Commander. She is a trans woman and Cae was not her birth name, but after joining up with the Wardens and leaving Orzammar, she flourished top side and adopted the name “Cae” simply because the other Wardens gave her that nickname and it was a reference to her House. Although, Cae does not really go by Kader anymore except officially just because Cae is so distanced culturally from Orzammar now. Similiarly, “Cae” is a very short and consonant-dependent name. To me, this carries over with Cae’s characterization as a blunt character who does not take shit from people. She is the Ferelden Warden-Commander, she must be tough in order to handle all of what goes down in Awakening, especially compounded with Fenrie’s defection from the Grey Wardens.

Dimitria Hawke: The name Dimitria itself is derived from Demeter, the Greek goddess of agriculture. This requires some exposition so forgive me. Dimitria was adopted by Malcolm and Leandra when she was 14. For reference, Marian Hawke, a mage, was 13. The twins were 7 at the time. Marian dies escape from Lothering instead of the twins. 

Born in the Free Marches, Dimitria was an unwanted child and used for her nimbleness (could act as bait in a con or pickpocket someone). As of 9:14, she was under an apprenticeship with an ex-Warden, Gegrin, to be a Berserker, but he usually used her for criminal activities. Eventually, Dimitira has to kill him in self-defense. Larius, Warden-Commander at the time, was tracking Gegrin for defecting, but found Dimitria instead with Gegrin’s corpse. Taking pity on her, he set her up with the Hawkes since he and Malcom had made a deal in the past. Dimitria had a much better life in Lothering thankfully. Anyway, due to early her upbringing, Dimitria is incredibly wrathful (that’s why she’s a Berserker lmao), but it can come from a place of warmth and caring despite that. It just reminds me of Demeter in the Persephone myth. 

Heleste Lavellan: Again taking note from Project Elvhen, Halesta is taken from there. It means “thread of the fox”. I chose it and, recently, I workshopped the spelling because I love the names Helena and Celeste. Both are reminiscent of Greek and Latin names, which fits Heleste because she was a Tevinter slave sold to a wealthy Kirkwaller at a young age (5-6 years old). Eventually, Heleste becomes nursemaid to the Kirkwaller’s children because she used healing magic to soothe his choleric son without understanding that she was a mage. As she matures into a teen, the other servants start spreading lies that Heleste has bewitched the family so the mother disallows Heleste from caring for her children. Eventually, the son runs away and Heleste follows after to protect him, but this is misinterpreted ultimately. As it happens, Dimitria Hawke to track Heleste down “as an escaped non-Circle mage who kidnapped a Kirkwaller’s only son”, but upon realizing Heleste was a slave with little understanding of her magic ability - Dimitria organized with the Sabrae clan to have Heleste moved the Lavellan clan for protection.
