what happened to lars mittank?? pt 1

on june 30th, 2014 lars and four of his friends, (all in their twenties), left northern germany, where they were from, and they went to Bulgaria. all of them stayed at a seaside resort called the golden sands. they were all going to have a week-long vacation together, so they get there and check into their hotel and promptly begin to relax, and everything's fine, theyre going to the clubs, and the beach, and trying the food, everything was going the way they hoped it'd go, until the very end of the trip.

on one of the last days of their trip (july 6th, 2014) lars was at a local bar, watching soccer, and something lars voices his opinion on a team, and the locals that were in the bar were supporting the other team, so they were arguing, and it ended up escalating very quickly into a full blown argument. his friends end up coming in and pulling him out. (important: there was no physical violence in the bar, it was just an altercation that couldve gotten physical but didnt).

later that night, lars and his friends are getting ready to settle down for the night, so they go to mcdonald's, lars didnt want to go in, so he stays outside, and lars' four other friends all go inside the mcdonald's to get food. when they come out of mcdonald's, lars is gone. so theyre sitting and waiting for him and hes nowhere to be found. so they assume that he just went back to the hotel to crash early, they go back to the hotel and hes not there. they kind of just write it off that hes an adult and that he'll show up soon to leave the next morning. so everyone goes to bed, and when they wake up, lars had returned, and he had this really almost bizarre story about why he was missing. he said that this group of men, (that he thought were either russian or local, so bulgarian), had attacked him, and he had been adamant that the people who attacked him had been hired by the people at the bar whom he fought with earlier. and his friends are looking at him like "why did you leave ?" and they were at the mcdonald's at around 12 and he was gone for four, five, maybe six hours. so the time to them didn't make any sense. but lars was back now so they just decided that he had a weird night, and everything was okay now, hes safe, hes with them, everything is fine, and they can just write it off. he was attacked but they were leaving anyway. lars had said that he got hit in the ear when he was attacked by these four guys, and just to be safe they suggested that lars should go see a doctor, and he should just get it looked at before they fly home. so lars goes to a doctor, and he looks at his ear, and it turns out lars has a perforated eardrum (a ruptured eardrum) and at first the doctor recommended surgery, lars didnt want surgery, he didnt want to do it in the area, if he was going to do surgery he was going to do it back home, and instead he takes an antibiotic that the doctor proscribes him which is called cefuroxime. the doctor says that since he was flying home with his friends his perforated eardrum might be problematic, because of the change in air pressure it could potentially make his ear worse. and so the doctor suggested that he doesnt fly home with your friends tonight instead he should delay his flight home for a couple of days to let his ear recover a bit. so lars goes back and he lets his friends know whats going on with his ear and what the doctor said, and their first thought is that we'll stay with you, and we'll all delay our flights, and we'll fly home together in a couple of days. but lars said hey look im gonna be totally fine, you guys take your scheduled flights and ill get a cheap hotel and stay here for a couple of days and i'll make my way home, its not a big deal. so lars and his four friends take off for the airport and his friends go into the airport and fly home to germany, and lars goes to look for a hotel near the airport. and he finds a cheap hotel near the airport called hotel color, this is really where lars' behavior starts becoming totally bizarre. he calls his mom at around midnight and says that she needs to turn off all of his bank cards, and she's confused, shes trying to make sense of what hes saying but there wasnt a good reason for why he was saying this. but then he hangs up, and she skind of left with, what is going on, then at 3am a few hours later, he calls her back, and now hes whispering and hes clearly terrified, and he says "there is a group of men that are trying to attack me, theyre gonna kill me." and he was 100percent convinced of it. sandra (lars' mom) would later say that she wished that she wouldve asked more questions to her son. however, this behavior was so uncharacteristic for him that his mom probably assumed that he was just being off and it'd be fine because she'd be seeing him tomorrow anyway. so after that phonecall at 3am he texts his mom a little after about the antibiotic that he's been prescribed, and hes asking her what it is, hes listing the name (which is cefuroxime) and hes asking her about it like he has no idea what it is a very common antibiotic-
