man I just can't get enough of the trope reversal of abusive-horrid-psychopath becomes obsessed with seemingly-nice-and-normal-guy... but watch out! it's just so funny when you start out with the walking embodiment of a red flag, consistently acting like a psycho, and you're side-eyeing the other character with concern like "oh no! you should run for the hills!" but nah, he doesn't run, he makes increasingly worse choices. and then you realize that he's also fucking insane. he's just insane in a covert way. he takes one look at the crazy murderous wackadoodle and goes "well what if I was his special boy... his silly little rabbit... OR ELSE!" and becomes just as fucking obsessed and you get to the point of the psycho being like "he's not trapped in here with me, I'm trapped in here with him" hahahaha

Could you show me the rest of your Legendary Rookies, as well as your Fusion and Unified ones?
Oh absolutely! I'm going to be spiltting them up into one post and two reblogs as I like organizing stuff. Let's start with the rookies shall we?
Tumblr media
First off is Mystmon! Yeah, it's similar to Mistymon but hey it works. They're the rookie of wind, I really wanted them to be a good combination of two beast and human spirits. I made them a little beastly because well monster girl.
Tumblr media
Funkemon, named after the German word of spark I think. They're the rookie of thunder and yes, they're skin is dark but it's a headcannon of mine that the warriors of thunder would be black if they were human. KoKabuterimon is probably now the official thunder but I do like Funkemon
Tumblr media
Midnighmon, rookie of darkness. I went heavy on the Strabimon influences a lot but it turned out good. Don't like the colors though. That's getting changed sometime soon.
Tumblr media
Grolettmon! Rookie of Earth. I like this one, I took inspiration from other places which I then cobbled together into one good mess of a digimon.
Tumblr media
Kabblamon, rookie of steel and named after the Jewish religious thought. Boi is very tall and odd just like the steel spirits. The steel warriors are my favorite spirit, and so my expectations for my rookie design are high and I think I managed it! Also the steel, water, and wood lines are not colored. Sorry I was procrastinating.
Tumblr media
Vinemon, rookie of wood and a personal favorite of mine. Like with Snowiemon, i'm surprised no one did a little plant dragon for the warrior of wood's line buut I guess they more horse digimon and honestly don't blame them. Vinemon is a cutie tho.
Tumblr media
And lastly, Cuajomon. Cuajo comes from renacuajo which is Spanish for tadpole. Didn't use rena for obvious reason. Made this little goober a little ugly but still cute. Ugly cute for the rookie of water.

2012 Kpop
Tumblr media
Now, let’s talk about K-pop groups you may or may not know about. 2012 brought a wave of awesome new groups. I was fairly new to the K-pop scene so I just went exploring and discovering new groups and boy am I glad I did that, because now I can tell you all about these hidden gems:
Debuts
So in this year, Gangnam Style happened, yeah everyone knows that bUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE HAPPENED??? YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT, B.A.P DEBUTED!!! They were amazing, ruthless, powerful, just wow, no wonder they became my ultimate group right away cause did you see their debut MV?? Bunny aliens that invade the earth to save their dying planet?! it was wild y’all Also you should definitely watch Bang&Zelo’s Never Give Up, although it was released in 2011 I’m still gonna mention it here, because it was that good.
Debut: Warrior - B.A.P
Another debut that many people may know is that of EXO. Before their real debut, they actually had released some mv’s like History (y’know “enjoy the mayo”).  I don’t know what it is with aliens this year but they seem to like this concept because also EXO turned out to be aliens with special superpowers from a dying planet named EXOPlanet. Till this day I can still hear the iconic “When the skies an-”
Debut: Mama - EXO
Y’all know GOT7? Then y’all must have heard about JJ Project a.k.a JB and Junior!! Jaebum and Jinyoung appeared in the k-drama Dream High 2 just before their actual debut, and boy did I LOVE Dream High 2. So obviously I was sToKeD for their debut, and they didn’t let me down. You should definitely also listen to Hooked.
Debut: Bounce - JJ Project
Let’s talk about my humongous crush on Jung Ilhoon, shall we? That boy man entranced me from the very first beginning. BTOB’s debut was wow, ilhoon was wow, I was wow. I remember watching their MTV Diary late at night, I watched them all and my mom got mad lol but I was so so so into BTOB, and along with B.A.P, they were my ultimate favourites. (pssst.. MTV Diary BTOB is still one of the best reality shows out there, i’m not saying you should watch it but i think you should, they are absolute crackheads)
Debut: Insane - BTOB Wow - BTOB (!!)
VIXX debuted with Super Hero and they had a comeback the same year with Rock Ur Body. Both VERY good songs and that’s why I’m so mad it isn’t on Spotify, this was my jam y’all, why you gotta do this to me, just put in on Spotify please. They actually have more songs from their earlier days that aren’t on Spotify :((
Debut: Super Hero - VIXX
Okay, then AOA happened. I absolutely LOVE their debut song, 10/10, chef’s kiss, just listen. Till this day Elvis and Get Out are my favourite AOA songs.
Debut: Elvis - AOA
DO YOU KNOW C-CLOWN??? YOU SHOULD cause without this group we wouldn’t have that frickin’ handsome hot sexy Aussie dude named CHristian Yu, insta: @/dprian (thought i was gonna say Bang Chan or Felix? ¬‿¬)  They debuted with Solo but you should rather watch Far Away Young Love, this mv is so good, the story line, the song, the boys… 12/10. Sadly they disbanded back in 2015 and all the members went their own way. Christian founded DPR, and “Maru” or simply Jaejun debuted again in 2019 with the group TREI (you should definitely watch their debut mv, i love it so much)
Debut: Solo - C-Clown
Let me tell you about a group that literally said in a song that they “f*ck like a p*rnstar”. Yes, it’s a South-Korean group from 2012 we’re talking about. Big Star. They are iconic, unapologetic, energetic, i freaking love them. They all went to the survival show ‘The Unit’ in 2017 and you may know Feeldog from that. “I rap like a monster and I f*ck like a p*rnstar….my rap always kills the track, at night I always kill the girl” yeah they did that
Debut: Hot Boy - Big Star (this debut is uhh… interesting)
Y’all, this group deserved so much better, I mean, their songs were absolute bops but I guess they were just ahead of their time. The Wonder Boyz! Wonder Boyz were being mistreated by the CEO of their agency, they were assaulted, verbally abused and the CEO allegedly also stole from them, it was horrible to hear this, they had so much potential. I liked how they made the songs theirs, matching it to their unique voices. So far I know they only have two mv’s. After their disbandment, they all went their own way and I’m happy to report that they are doing well. Young Boy changed his stage name into Roscoe, and is now part of DPR (we gang gang), K or Taehyun is now active as Owol (definitely listen to Why), Master One is now known as V-Hawk (Tokki mv) and I don’t really know what happened with Bak Chi Gi but some sites say he became an independent artist.
Debut: Tarzan - Wonder Boyz (This one’s really good i swear) Open the door - Wonder Boyz
More debuts worth mentioning:
Nu’est, the big brothers of Seventeen! Their debut song was a bop, really, and Ren was so beautiful. Also, I really digged their hair styles. Face - Nu’est
Y’all know the legendary female Park Jimin from ASC? Y’all know her beginnings with 15&? Y’all should watch these angels: I Dream - 15&
Ailee also starred in Dream High 2 and her debut song was so so so good, just listen. Heaven - Ailee
Lee Hi!!! Love this girl. All her songs are good man. 1, 2, 3, 4 - Lee Hi
100% They were just HOT. Bad boy - 100%
Lunafly yO these kings deserved better. I mean, an acoustic band singing in Korean, English ánd Spanish. If you don’t know them, you missed something good. Super Hero - Lunafly
GLAM said gay rights, just look up their lyrics. Do I need more things to prove that their debut was iconic? Party XXO - GLAM
D-UNIT 2012 was the year of the badboy aliens but let’s not forget the badgirls because they killed it. Luv me - D-UNIT
24K they debuted with Hurry up but their comeback U R So Cute is just so cutesy and very different from their debut concept, ngl that song is my guilty pleasure.
The year of the humble beginnings of EXID! Before Up&Down, there was Whoz that girl - EXID
Tiny-G you may know Min Do Hee from her acting in Reply 1994 and Gangnam Beauty. Their debut mv is soo cute Minimanimo - Tiny-G
A-Jax I remember being really intruiged by their mv’s, not really sure why but just take a look yourself: One 4 U - A-Jax, Hot Game - A-Jax
Mr. Mr. no not that song of Girl’s Generation. They have a whole history with members leaving and members being added but if you overlook that, they still have some good songs worth mentioning. I actually don’t recommend watching their debut song, just watch one of these: Do you feel me, Waiting for you
Comebacks
Big Bang’s legendary comeback: Fantastic Baby
G-dragon’s Crayon a.k.a my go-to shower song
Super Junior had a comeback and they were Sexy, Free and Single and ready to bingo ;)
Just Teen Top had a comeback with Be ma girl a.k.a the proper way to ask yo crush out
Beast (now Highlight) summer comeback: Beautiful Night
Block B’s released some really good content like Nillili Mambo and NalinA
Boyfriend as angel/demon princes !! Definitely a must-watch: Janus
B1A4 had a really good year, I loved all their comebacks: Baby Good Night, Baby I’m Sorry (you either love it, or hate it), Tried to walk
Shinee’s back with Sherlock a.k.a soy un dorito
Also the year f(x) swept us away with Electric Shock
Some more iconic things worth mentioning imo:
BTOB and B.A.P had a dance stage together and it was a-ma-zing
This  🤯 KMF 2012 really gave us the best performances
Teen Top on Weekly Idol doing random playdance and turning violent
B.A.P’s killing camp and Ta-Dah! It’s B.A.P and MTV Diary B.A.P I’m a sucker for B.A.P, is it obvious ?
Actually all MTV Diary’s from 2012 are top quality procrastination content (C-Clown, MyName, VIXX, JJ Project, BTOB, B.A.P)
This compilation pretty much sums up 2012′s vibes

Do we still write first posts as introduction to the blog or is it just a uni thing...?
I think the title says everything but hey everyone it's a blog dedicated to the ship Plance from DreamWorks's show Voltron Legendary Defender.
My friend was dragged me into this obsession - i'm really grateful for her - mostly to have someone who with she can discuss how lovely this ship is and how awful season 8 was for everyone. So here i am moving/defenestrated as much out of my comfort zone as much i can to finally create a blog to hopefully entertain others too with my creations.
I love fanfiction and theories. Especially theories and discussions about fanfictions. So if you have a recommendation or want to discuss an idea pls tell me, it keeps me alive.
I'm a greeny artist, so it is possible that i'll use other art works to copy poses to improve but i will always credit the original creators. So just mind me playing "draw it in your style" by myself.
I have no idea how frequently i will post. I'm a uni student and sadly a procrastinating perfectionist so if i promise there will be a next part to something, there will be, but just mind i didn't mention which year. (Joking but not really, deadlines don't like me and i don't like them too)
So let's have fun in the garden shall we?!

Fanfic Asks! I'd ask you to answer every single question, but that might be a bit much, so instead have an actual list of questions: 1, 2, 6, 11, 12, 18, 19, 23, 25, 27, 33, 34, 38, 40, 44, 48, 49, 50. Still a long list, but not 50 entries ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ay damn thank you my guy, I shall answer them immediately!
…also, after the first two questions are already me talking way too much, I think I should probably put a read more, so, here
1) How old were you when you first starting writing fanfiction? I wrote my first one when I was in the Glee fandom back in 2011/12 so I was about 13 or 14, and damn those stories sucked. I deleted them quite soon, so now my first fics are the One Piece ones on my German ff.de account, and I’m not planning on deleting them even tho they’re embarrassing because I got a few really sweet reviews on them. And then in 2014, at age 16 I started writing in English.
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
So far I’ve written
One Piece
Free!
The Song of Achilles
Prince of Stride: Alternative
Voltron: Legendary Defender
Final Fantasy XV
But the only ones I still write actively (haha, as if)/can still imagine writing for are Voltron, FFXV, and of course Free! which I doubt will stop being my favourite fandom for a long time. I’d like to write a MCU fic someday, a real one because my 400 word drabble doesn’t count, and I’ve got plans for at least a oneshot, but we all know how it is
6) If you had to delete one of your stories and never speak of it again, which would it be and why? I wouldn’t mind deleting any of my German stories as long as I’d get to save the reviews, but if we take the English ones only I’d probably delete the oneshot collection I started for One Piece, it has a whole two oneshots that are prompts someone actually sent me on Tumblr (like damn son I did not expect anyone to do that) but they’re not getting any attention now and I have to admit I don’t even remember what they are about anymore, so I’m not really attached to them.
11) Have you ever amended a story due to criticisms you’ve received after posting it? No, but I also don’t think I’ve ever received criticism, so there was never any reason to. I don’t know if I would, either, it’d really depend on if it’s dumbass criticism or if it makes sense.
12) Who is your favourite character to write for? Why? Rei from Free! without question. Anyone who follows me on here, or even worse, on Twitter (I am so sorry) would probably know he’s my absolute favourite character out of everything, so it’s only natural I love writing him the most. Other than him, my favourites to write atm are Ignis from FFXV and Keith from Voltron, they just feel very familiar and are easy to write for me (especially Iggy is fun because I get to use the fanciest English I know, it’s good practice!)
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them? I did originally plan to give one of my One Piece fics, Celebrity Crush, more than two chapters, but I couldn’t quite come up with any more plot, and then I got into other fandoms and wasn’t too interested in OP anymore, so I decided to just leave it at those two chapters. I also have quite a few WIPs I wrote a rough outline for but then never wrote because I either thought about it too hard and started to think it was stupid after all, or because I procrastinated too long and also lost interest in the fandom.
19) Are there any stories that you’ve written that you’d really love to do a sequel to? Yes! I really loved writing Il Treno dei Desideri and I actually planned a sequel for it. I have yet to decide if I’m actually gonna write it, because, yknow, too much procrastinating, but I’d quite like to.
23) Do you prefer listening to music when you’re writing or do you need silence? I usually write in silence but if it’s with music, it can’t be music with lyrics because that’ll distract me from the words in my head (if it’s a language I don’t speak, like Japanese in anime openings and stuff it’s okay until I’ve listened to it enough times to memorize the way the lyrics sound despite not understanding it. Then it becomes distracting as well)
25) Have you ever cried whilst writing a story? No. Maybe if I decided to kill off a pet in a story, I might, but it takes a lot to make me cry otherwise.
27) Do you make a general outline for your stories or do you just go with the flow? I make a general outline because I never just straight up start writing when I get an idea but procrastinate for three weeks instead. So once I get the idea I write it down and plot it in my head as well as possible, at least the plot lines I already came up with (and sometimes entire sentences I already wrote in my head and think they sound good), I usually bullshit my way through the stuff in between.
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten? Choosing a top 3 because I can“Overall, this was one of the most enjoyable stories I’ve found in a while in any fandom. It’s definitely being bookmarked and recced.” iN ANY FANDOM?? Thank you???“I should be sleeping now but y'know how it is, anyway, thanks for making my night!! Have a great day!” Always happy to have ppl tell me they lost sleep over my fic bc we know those are always the best fics, bless“THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not usually a fan of angst, but like?????? I’m screaming this is so amazing and well written” Ngl this one was especially good for my heart bc it was on a fic in a rly small and dead fandom but I was rly proud of the fic and thought I did quite a good job writing, but I’d sorta accepted I wouldn’t get a comment bc the fandom’s so dead, and then someone went and gave me one anyway, I was so happy
34) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten? As I said, I never actually got criticism on any fic as far as I recall. I do, however, remember someone reblogging a fic of mine on here and saying in the tags that it wasn’t bad but ooc. That rubbed me the wrong way because it was only being said in the tags instead of maybe in a comment on the reblog or in a message, and it was only that too, not telling me where I went wrong and stuff, so I had actually no idea what it was exactly that made it ooc.
38) If you could collab with any other writer on here, who would it be? (Perhaps this question will inspire some collabs!) If you’re shy, don’t tag the blog, just name it. Hm, I don’t think I’d try to collab with anyone. I’m too embarrassed about my own ideas and my writing until I’ve 100% finished and perfected it, so I wouldn’t be great at talking about possible plots and stuff. I actually did try a collab on the German fanfiction website years ago, but then I ended up procrastinating so much I got too embarrassed to talk to that person and just ended up never talking to them again. We never even managed a first chapter, and I’m really sorry about how I just disappeared. Maybe if I can still find them on there I should shoot them a message sometime, to apologize.
40) Do people know you write fanfiction? Yeah, several people do, but most don’t really care. I’ve got one friend who used to occasionally read a few fics of mine despite never knowing shit about the fandom, that was really sweet. But other than that they just know it’s a thing I do. My mom might probably want to read them if they weren’t in English, but like this she wouldn’t really be able to understand them if she tried to read those.
44) What is the last line you wrote? “With that, he closes the cabin door and Ignis finally lies down on the atrocious bed to go to sleep.” Making it a sentence bc it’s a little longer than one line. I wrote that fic yesterday, planning on editing and posting after answering those questions.
48) What’s your favourite trope to write? I absolutely adore hurt/comfort, and I like writing that the most, even though it’s not that evident in most of my published fics. Mainly because I’m kinda embarrassed about it and bc I’m never sure I can get it right. But yeah, that’d be the favourite.
49) Can you remember the first fic you read? What was it about? Oh dear, I don’t, but I know it was about Glee because that was what got me into fanfics. But what I do remember is the first smut fic I read, and ohh boy. I don’t remember if it was good or not, but it was completely new to my 14 year old self and I was so fascinated, like damn son. It was a really rare/borderline crack ship too, but it certainly was an interesting experience.
50) If you could write only angst, fluff or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why? Angst, because that’s my jam. I might miss writing fluff tho, but I never write or intend to write smut anyway so I really couldn’t care less about not being allowed to write that anymore.

Dean Winchester’s eclectic taste in music, as shown in his (non-classic rock/heavy metal) FBI aliases
My whole thought process here started today with the famous Aaron scene, and the alias Dean uses while he shows his badge to his “gay thing”.
Tumblr media
Yes, Marc Bolan was an openly bisexual celebrity (referenced here by BEN EDLUND, similar to 10x22, where ANDREW DABB references Freddy Mercury - another bisexual man - as one of the other aliases Dean chooses for himself).
This is a telling reference in itself in the context of this scene, but as a huge T. Rex/Marc Bolan fan myself, this scene got me super excited also besides that. Like, super SUPER excited. Why, you ask?
BECAUSE IT MAKES TEXTUAL THE FACT THAT DEAN IS A GLAM ROCK FAN. Like, classic glam rock. Silk shirts, high heels, glitter eye-shadow glam-rock-fan. A one step away from David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars” glam-rock-fan.
He is a fan of THIS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is enough of a fan to take Marc Bolan’s name as his alias while he usually chooses aliases based on classic hard rock musician’s/heavy metal band members that he likes/identifies with.
OR DOES HE?
Out of curiosity (and procrastination, because of course I should be doing something else right now) I checked the list of the music aliases Dean uses over the years (I assume that these aliases are Dean’s ideas since he is the brother more interested in music, after all.) As a result, I spent a great evening with a whole spectrum of music genres, based on Dean Winchester’s amazing and broad AF music taste.
It’s true that most of the aliases Dean chooses are heavy metal and classic rock bands (Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Kiss, Ted Nudgent, Styx, Rush, Warrant, Poison, Guns and Roses…)(I don’t blame him, these are great bands).
MOST, BUT NOT ALL OF THEM.
There are exclusively six writers who gave Dean a much more eclectic taste in music during the last seven seasons:
Andrew Dabb
Robert Berens
Ben Edlund
Robbie Thompson
and a writing duo Eric Charmelo & Nicole Snyder (season 10/11)
So, let’s look at what genres/bands broadens Dean’s iPod album collection, shall we?
1) 80′S HAIR METAL BANDS (GLAM METAL)
Yes, Dean was sneering at Vince Vincente and his spiked codpiece (and a rainbow wig that I am completely sure Dean imagined, because even google can’t find me one band who used that as a prop), but that was all Performing!Dean talking, obviously. How do we know? Because as far as real-life parallels to the fictional band Ladyheart go, this is what Dean hates so much:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Dean is completely disgusted by leather pants, huge wigs and studded codpieces, here visualized by Mötley Crüe. Dean said so IN TEXT.
(I am pretty sure Ladyheart is supposed to be Mötley Crüe since their next album was to be named “Theatre of Mercy” - mirroring Mötley Crüe’s album “Theatre of Pain”. Also, “Rock Never Dies” was written by ROBERT BERENS, who named another one of his episodes “Girls, Girls, Girls” - after a Mötley Crüe  song and album.)
Tumblr media
And yet, in episode 8.02. “What’s up, Tiger Mommy?” (written by ANDREW DABB), Dean introduces himself and Sam as Agents Neil and Sixx, two members of MÖTLEY CRÜE. Which means Dean is a Mötley Crüe fan, and he doesn’t seem to mind huge wigs and studded codpieces that much in their case. (Bam, LAWYERED!)
The name LADYHEART (called into existence by my above mentioned personal god Bobo Berens) reminds me of the British band LADYTRON (playing synth pop/new wave/electronic combo), and named after the super famous ROXY MUSIC synth pop/glam rock song.
Tumblr media
So, yeah, Dean is a fan of studded codpieces, big wigs and hair metal. He is also a fan of a long list of different music genres (real Dean behind the cut):
2) 90′S GRUNGE
In episode 10x13 “Halt and Catch Fire” (written by ERIC CHARMELO & NICOLE SNYDER), Sam and Dean use aliases “Grohl and Cobain”, as in DAVE GROHL and KURT COBAIN from NIRVANA.
Tumblr media
3) BRITISH 1970′S/1980′S PUNK ROCK
In episode 11x13 “Love Hurts” (also written by ERIC CHARMELO & NICOLE SNYDER) Dean uses alias “agent Weller”, as in PAUL WELLER from the classic British punk rock band THE JAM.
Tumblr media
4) POWER POP
In episode 10x19 “The Werther Project” (written by ROBERT BERENS) Dean pretends to be a Neighbourhood Watch member by the name of Dwight Twilley.
DWIGHT TWILLEY is a power pop singer from the 1980s.
Tumblr media
5) POP ROCK/ART POP/BLUES ROCK (with female vocals)
In episode 9x14 “Captives” (written by ROBERT BERENS), Sam and Dean take aliases of “agents Nicks and McVie”.
STEVIE NICKS and CHRISTINE MCVIE are members of the legendary soft rock/art pop/blues band FLEETWOOD MAC. THEY ARE ALSO BOTH FEMALES!!!
Tumblr media
6) POST PUNK/INDIE ROCK (with female vocals)
In episode 10x14 “The Executioner’s Song” (written again by ROBERT BERENS) Sam and Dean take names “Moore and Ranaldo”.
THURSTON MOORE and LEE RANALDO are members of the legendary indie rock band SONIC YOUTH, with famous vocals of KIM GORDON.
Tumblr media
7) PROGRESSIVE POP ROCK/SYNTH POP of 1970s/1980s
In episode 8x17 “Goodbye Stranger” (written by the one and only ROBBIE THOMPSON), Sam and Dean use names “agents Tandy and Lynne”.
RICHARD TANDY and JEFF LYNDE are members of ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA, a band that combines pop-rock, synth pop, electronic music and elements of disco.
Tumblr media
8) REGGAE/SKA
In the episode 5x14, “My Bloody Valentine” (written by BEN EDLUND), Dean uses names “agents Cliff and Marley”, as in JIMMY CLIFF and BOB MARLEY - famous reggae musicians.
Tumblr media
9) FOLK ROCK
In episode 8x08, “Hunteri Heroici” (written by ANDREW DABB), Team Free Will pose as agents “Nash, Crosby, and Stills”.
DAVID CROSBY, STEPHEN STILLS, GRAHAM NASH (and occasionally NEIL YOUNG) were a folk-rock supergroup started in 1968.
Tumblr media
10) COUNTRY ROCK/SOFT ROCK
In episode 11x04 “Baby” (written by ROBBIE THOMPSON), Dean uses name “agent Walsh” as in JOE WALSH from THE EAGLES, a soft rock band of “Hotel California” fame.
Tumblr media
Dean’s taste in music, reflected here in the names of musicians he chooses as his personas, alongside his most favourite rockstars, shows how broad Dean is in his tastes - Dean practically is a fan of anything that sounds good to him, regardless of genre (as shown with his liking for Taylor Swift and Broadway musicals, for example). It’s a shame that this wonderful music taste is still hidden in the subtext, and all I can do is hope that our new Dean will be allowed to play some of his favourite bands in his car next season, especially since both Dabb and Berens seem to be the keepers of Dean’s super eclectic, infinite playlist. Please Dabb, make it happen!

Doctoral Grief: what to pack to Your bear Investigation — 100 days to the doctorate & past
Doctoral distress and deadline anxiety love company. So I must mention I was slightly relieved to hear from a fellow traveller with this journey she also was having end issues.
To put this in perspective, I’m not speaking about a few legendary PhD slacker who spends the times on a scholarship playing Solitaire on your computer. Although I have heard that they exist…
No, this lady a moved self-starter who presents at conferences around the globe, publishes and educates. When she sends me an email saying that she’s in the last two weeks — and also fearful to count the times — and things aren’t moving as swiftly, or as easily as she would like, I understand that feeling.
Yes, I’m having what she’s having. And that is the panic of the final part of the travel. It’s no more about devising ideas, drafting version of this thesis, studying and commenting on journal articles — it’s not about writing articles or conference papers.
Hell no, this is the true thing. That is panic. That is what sports stars must feel before the race begins.
It has nothing to do with competence; it is all a mind game today, in precisely the exact same manner that writing fiction is truly a mind sport. That is what internationally Best-selling writer Douglas Kennedy must say about it about it:
“Composing is a confidence trick you play on yourself… and yet one that you have to perpetuate on a daily basis.”
I’d recommend reading Kennedy’s blog: “left handed writing, ideal handed thoughts” to get an insight into so many facets of the writing life — optimism tricks, completion, and the fascination with which he observes people and the planet and weaves that into his books. No, he’s not in my own doctoral bibliography — no mutants here, only an acute ability at producing the intricacies of the human condition. Occasionally a little respite in the Gothic is called for….
As for my friend? She reads, “I shall look forward to seeing you all on the opposite side of this PhD, although I could barely imaging what that area might look like!”
I had her trapped for an effortless finish and’m now somewhat relieved I’m not the only one tearing my hair out. Right now, nothing I write sounds profound enough or sounds scholarly enough…yes, it is the inevitable descent into the Valley Of Shit. That is something which Dr Mewburn wrote eloquently in her Thesis Whisper site qualified — The Valley of Shit.
The Thesis Whisperer is a newspaper style blog dedicated to helping research students, and can be edited by Dr Inger Mewburn  director of research training at that the ANU.
I fulfilled Inger when she was operating at RMIT and she asked me to contribute some sites to her website, that I was happy to perform — you can read them here.
I’ve got a theory that any moment spent studying The Thesis Whisperer is not procrastination, but really a thinly disguised therapy session….
Inger writes: “There are a few signs you’re entering in the Valley of Shit. You can start to think your whole project is misconceived or you don’t have the ability to do it justice. Or maybe you seriously wonder if what you have done is great enough and get started feeling like what you have found is clear, dull and insignificant.”
Indeed, the photo that accompanies today’s blog was taken on a trip to my father’s village in northern Greece. It appears to sum this up particular state of mind absolutely. Since I cannot talk a word of Greek, the signals did not really help me as we started to trek the mountain. When I have lost, I couldn’t ask for support. That’s what The Valley of Shit feels like — you can see in the signs which you’re there, but you don’t understand what they say, also don’t understand how to get out.
If you also have this smelly place, you simply need to do what I’m doing, and believe there is light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe because I’m a fiction writer, I’m well-used to walking through The Valley of Shit, and understand there are three things you can do — don’t lose your nerve, keep on functioning, and believe in your own ability.
Since Douglas Kennedy says about being a novelist:  “Actually Once You’ve hit the twenty five per cent mark, are you willing to take the fact that, even when others think you have arrived as a novelist, some genuinely good and serious authors knows one central truth of this calling, this livelihood: you never arrive.     You just keep on working.”
That’s right — only keep on functioning. That’s all you can do when you strike The Valley of Shit — take comfort in knowing everyone completing their doctorate probably ends up here, and probably makes out alive. You only need to keep on working.
I’m reminded of a book I used to read my boys when they were small — , by Michael Rosen. I loved this book even more than that they did, as it seemed to sum up the significance of persistence so perfectly. I’d bounce the children in my knee and sing along with the staff on Playschool:
“We’re going on a bear hunt…we are likely to catch a big one. What a beautiful day, we are not scared! Uh oh a river — a deep cold river! We can not go over it, we can not go underneath it — oh no! We have got to really go via it….”
Who wants the philosophy according to Pooh? I’ll take Rosen daily. Very good luck!
