as the first child to grace the tyrell household , and a long awaited one at that , leo’s birth was celebrated for weeks . he was born healthy , a splitting image of his father , and bright blue eyes that made anyone who gazed into them smile . though raised incredibly sheltered and constantly surrounded by others , leo valued his alone time . he often thought about things no one cared to ask about or what was beyond highgarden , out in westeros , a realm he would one day rule himself . leo loved being the center of attention but it never changed how he felt about himself or others . he would often share his limelight , praising close allies or sharing coin with those who needed it .

lessons became his comfort zone , always fond of the scholars who taught him and leo could never get enough of learning . not only did it interest him greatly , but he felt compelled to know everything he could because of what would one day be expected of him . while he excelled at history and reciting the words of the houses of the realm , his talents fell short when it came to lessons such as weapon training . he was always too timid , too nervous of striking his opponent , even if they had shared no similar feelings . a sword always felt too heavy in his hands and leo felt embarrassed holding one - so instead he began to learn archery , a means to defend without needing to feel such a personal violence . still , he has never been one to stomach blood or rage , perhaps so fearful of the gruesome history learned too young in his youth .

though they have certainly faded and cracked over the years , leo has always worn a pair of rose colored glasses . most of this is due to seeing the beautiful artwork of westeros yet never actually traveling much anymore . he had the opportunity to travel in his youth , mostly a shadow at his father’s side , then taking solo riding trips as he got older that would last weeks at a time . he had such a wonder for the world and wanted to experience as much as he could while his responsibilities were limited . this led to a lot of silly mistakes over the years , getting caught up in the wrong people at certain points and losing sight of what he really wanted in life . too many drunken nights long forgotten and words whispered that never held an ounce of truth .

being so spoiled had made him arrogant as a young man , thinking he could do anything he set his mind to do . once he traveled on his own , he began to learn that everyone always had their own interests . in this aspect he’s always had to learn things the hard way , this biggest con of being so curious . though , even though he saw himself as someone with constant armor due to a title , his kindness was always buried underneath whatever companion had forced him to ignore it at the time . leo never traveled too far from highgarden and never into the northern kingdom , on his father’s promise . he was lucky not to have experienced worse - but he was smart enough to keep his identity a secret and knew how to make himself appear as a commoner from befriending the ones he had .

he’s not entirely trusting of people because he knows that most have their own intentions and perceptions , yet leo remains a bit naive as to where to trust information . he’s not good at detecting liars or manipulators , which is why he always gets a third , fourth , and fifth opinion on every big decision he makes ( hey small council besties ) . small details about himself are sometimes carelessly misplaced and so he tries his best to keep those specifically for conversations with his wife or pals . he’s one of those kings that has a decent reputation for being a decent guy but no one can ever get too close to him because his advisors are scared he’d say way too much ... he does have throne room meetings with his people ofc but never one on one . that might appear pretty arrogant or even cowardly to some but it works for leo .

his father passed unexpectedly eight years ago and though the maester confirmed it was of natural causes , an illness he’d been unlucky enough to catch , leo still has his suspicions there was more at play . he chalks this up to being a bit paranoid in general , always wanting to make sure his family is kept away from prying hands at court , but something always made him unsure . leo stepped into the position as he’d been raised for it , graciously yet with a heavy heart after losing someone so dear to him . he doesn’t know if he’s a good king , he likes to think he is but he has a feeling he’s made some mistakes because it’s taken him a while to feel confident in his decisions .

he got married a few years after his coronation to alyssa velaryon after his numerous choice of suitors - but she had terrified him enough to want only her . they now have two little girls , laena and mya , while leo still pesters alyssa daily for more . he adores his daughters with his whole heart but he would absolutely love a son . his family is his whole world and though he takes his role as king seriously , there are very few things he wouldn’t do for them . if he’s not in the throne room being a hospitable guest , he’s hidden away somewhere , probably reading to one of his girls or having an afternoon drink with his bestie lords .

tl;dr - good guy with a genuine heart , wants good things for westeros but is learning that sometimes , making the tough decision is what a king has to do . i won’t answer what comes first between himself , his house and the realm he takes responsibility for - because he certainly doesn’t know either .

i was describing him to katie as “ just some guy ” and leo is truly just some dude who got lucky enough to be born into the lifestyle of being powerful and hot
