Sneak Peak into the upcoming exhibit of W. Spencer Parshall: "Photography is my passion and profession. Ardent interest in the medium began in high school and advanced to full time in 1995. In the last three decades, specialization in Old World Photography has evolved to include juried art shows in Michigan and the neighboring states of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. In addition, a recent path now includes creating custom projects with interior designers to fulfill wall art needs of clients. My time in photography during the medium's rapid advance in technology has been exciting. Nonetheless, it is my belief that equipment is simply a tool and it matters little what is used to seize a moment in time. In my mind, the photographer's eye is the key to the success of the image. I have embraced digital cameras bringing new creative possibilities to making images, and now offer a second body of work distinct from the recognizable style of my earlier photography. A favorite body of work from my digital "light room" was conceived from the squares of a hand sewn quilt passed down in my family. Abstract images using both new and original quilt colors render a new look to "quilting". I'm driven to continue creating, following the charge from an admired photographer and poet, Harvey Lloyd in his quote below: "Spending one's life doing what you love is a rare and magnificent privilege. Never pause, quit, retire, get bored, slow down, or stop creating." Harvey Lloyd - World-roaming photographer and poet." Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5-8 pm: Van Dyke: Renaissance Man Bi-monthly Old Town Lansing, in association with the Arts Council of Greater Lansing hosts an event called Arts Night Out. Different types of arts and artists are featured around Old Town from 5-8 pm on a Friday evening. Van Dyke the writer, has authored, "The Things We Do At My School", "Juneteenth, Celebrating Freedom", "The Music We Call Jazz". When not book signing at Barnes & Noble, or doing presentations at libraries, Van Dyke the painter has recently completed a mural project in the hallways of Lansing Area School District's Reo Elementary School, is a member of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, and JAMM (Jazz Alliance of Mid-Michigan) one of the artist at the Grove Gallery & Studios in East Lansing and Keys To Creativity, located in the Lansing Mall. His works can be found on the campus of MSU (Lear Center at School of Business, Office of Diversity, Engineering Building), Cooley Law School, and the Eyde Company. Being represented by Agora Gallery in Manhattan, New York and at the Art-Is-In-Market, at the Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Michigan for the last two years, finds it easier to be back in the comfort of home in Mid-Michigan. Maggie is a Mid-Michigan social and creative entrepreneur. She used her recent school break to create a 2018 Calendar. The profits from this project benefit the local humane society! With the assistance of her guinea pigs, and the piggies of a friend, Maggie carefully handcrafted seasonally appropriate, wearable accessories. Yes, the piggies are wearing hats! She, with the help of her brother, staged the photos with these piggy models. The piggies did agree to waive their model fees to further aid the humane society. Did I mention that she’s the future of creative and social entrepreneurship? Maggie will be at Absolute Gallery for the first Arts Night Out for 2018! She will have her calendars available for purchase. Each calendar retails for $20.00 each; $11.00 of each sale has been earmarked as a donation to the humane society, the remaining $9.00 reimburses Maggie for the production of the project. (Folks, she used her own money to produce this calendar!) The Capital Area Humane Society is a non-profit that is important to me....and Absolute Gallery. To continue Maggies efforts to help our animals, Absolute Gallery will have lists available of items needed by the CAHS, should you wish to help. Angela Hamilton was born in Windsor and grew up in Michigan. She began her art venture as a child in pastels and graphites, drawing mostly portraits. She graduated from Michigan State University with Bachelor Degrees in General Business and Advertising. But not happy with her assigned career direction she was compelled to work in art.  She took a few drawing courses at Oakland Community College and started in desktop publishing and her talents promoted her to Graphic Artist. Her job was to design training manuals and promotional items for the Big 3 automotive companies. In order to stay home with Baby, she started a Freelance Graphic Arts business, but family life and a new house became very demanding and drew her away from her business. After 10 years of putting her art career on hold to raise a family, Angela decided to launch a new career into fine art painting. In 2011 Angela continued her art studies at the Flint Institute of Arts. She is growing as an artist the more she learns and paints. The Flint Institute of Arts included Beach Play in the 2013 Summer Catalog. In 2014 Angela won a Professional Development Mini-Grant for more courses at the FIA to broaden her skills and education. She was the first individual artist to win a Mini-Grant for Professional Development through the Michigan Council for Arts and Culture. Angela’s art is in Michigan residents’ homes around the state. Absolute Gallery is pleased to offer Angela's work to you. As an added bonus, Angela will be showcased at the September 8, 2017 Arts Night Out in Old Town Lansing at the Clark Hill Law Firm.
